Capable of producing ultrafine features, two-photon polymerization (2PP) 3D printing made it possible to field a first-of-its-kind leak-proof liquid-filled diffraction target. These targets are used for shots aimed at using laser pressure instead of low temperatures turn water into ice. The shot is the product of months of design, assembly, and installation work by LSEO’s target fabrication team, in collaboration with 3D printing experts Widi Moestopo (MED) and Xiaoxing Xia (MED) and PLS researcher Neal Bhandarkar.

An assembly comprises a first liquid guide having an inlet, an outlet, and a liquid-conducting layer comprising a first material. The liquid-conducting layer extends between the inlet and the outlet. A second liquid guide has an inlet, an outlet, and a liquid-conducting layer comprising a second material. The liquid-conducting layer extends between the inlet and the outlet. At least a portion of the liquid-conducting layer of the second liquid guide overlaps the liquid-conducting layer of the first liquid guide such that, when a first liquid flows along the liquid-conducting layer of the first liquid guide and a second liquid flows along the liquid-conducting layer of the second liquid guide, the second liquid contacts the first liquid along the portion of the liquid-conducting layer of the second liquid guide that overlaps the liquid-conducting layer of the first liquid guide.
Gene editing can be performed by introducing gene-editing components into a cell by mechanical cell disruption. Related apparatus, systems, techniques, and articles are also described. The methods and systems of the invention solve the problem of intracellular delivery of gene editing components and gene editing complexes to target cells. The results described herein indicate that delivery of gene editing components, e.g., protein, ribonucleic acid (RNA), and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), by mechanical disruption of cell membranes leads to successful gene editing. Because intracellular delivery of gene editing materials is a current challenge, the methods provide a robust mechanism to engineer target cells without the use of potentially harmful viral vectors or electric fields.
An engineered unit cell is disclosed for flowing a fluid therethrough in three dimensions. The unit cell may have a substrate with a plurality of flow channels around and between struts formed within the substrate. The struts may each be formed with a desired shape and orientation within the substrate to achieve a desired degree of fluid flow through the flow channels, in each of one of three dimensions, through the unit cell.
