Crystal Diffraction Prediction and Partiality estimation using Gaussian basis functions

A small dataset with good data quality, useful as a benchmark. There exists a two-fold indexing ambiguity, so when processing with CrystFEL you will need to do: ambigator -o disambiguated.stream -y m-3 -w m-3m -j 72 ambiguous.stream Please check the README file for more information about the dataset. ----- Begin unit cell ----- CrystFEL unit cell file version 1.0 lattice_type = cubic centering = I a = 103.40 A b = 103.40 A c = 103.40 A al = 90.00 deg be = 90.00 deg ga = 90.00 deg ; Please note: this is the target unit cell. ; The actual unit cells produced by indexing depend on many other factors. ----- End unit cell -----

XRD-PUAT (X-Ray Diffraction - Parameter Uncertainty Analysis Toolkit)

This XRD uncertainty toolkit was built to investigate uncertainty and local least squares topology over a specified parameter space on a single histogram in a gpx GSAS-II file. The parameter uncertainty can be investigated using either a frequentist F-test approach or a Bayesian Inference statistical inversion method on a weighted least squares or peak fit refinements.SAND Number: SAND2020-12227 M Sandia National Laboratories is a multimission laboratory managed and operated by National Technology & Engineering Solutions of Sandia, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Honeywell International Inc., for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration under contract DE-NA0003525.

SNAP diffraction dataset for 2023 SMC data challenge

The data provided this challenge is ice under high pressure measured using the Spallation Neutrons and Pressure Diffractometer (SNAP) at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The data is stored in a hdf5 file following the NeXus standard and can be read with tools built for either. While the NeXus format is self-describing, there is benefit to explaining some details. The data is stored in a single NXdata entry within a single NXentry. The NXdata has several fields denoting the 3-dimensional data (signal), the axes (D0 is the Qx axis, D1 is the Qy axis, and D2 is the Qz axis), and fields for the uncertainties and masking information. The data can be quickly viewed using the LoadMD algorithm and slice viewer in the Mantid workbench https://www.mantidproject.org.

Diffraction properties of cylindrically bent KAP crystals in energy range of 2.3–7.5 keV using synchrotron radiation

Verification of physics models and computer simulations are heavily reliant upon the accuracy of experimental measurements. Calibration of instrument responses becomes an important step to achieve this goal. This paper presents systematic studies of bent potassium acid phthalate (KAP) crystals using Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories, Advanced Light Source, beamline 9.3.1 in the energy range of 2.3 to 7.5 keV. A set of KAP crystals, gradually bent from flat up to a 50.8 mm cylindrical curvature. The measured integrated reflectivity for this set of KAP crystals shows good agreement with the X-ray Oriented Program (XOP) calculations when adjusting the Debye–Waller temperature factor and using the multilamellar model in the calculations. Significant differences in rocking curve profiles were observed between experimental measurements and theory. A forward convolution model and software code were developed to include experimental parameters, allowing the investigation of the difference between measurements and calculations. After considering the experimental parameters, good agreements were obtained for the rocking curve profiles for all bending radii with a unique set of parameters. Our results show that XOP can be a useful and reliable tool to predict performance of cylindrically bent KAP crystals in this energy range.

Femtosecond damage experiments and modeling of broadband mid-infrared dielectric diffraction gratings

High peak and average power lasers with high wall-plug efficiency, like the Big Aperture Thulium (BAT) laser, have garnered tremendous attention in laser technology. To meet the requirements of the BAT laser, we have developed low-dispersion reflection multilayer dielectric (MLD) gratings suitable for compression of high-energy pulses for operations at 2 micron wavelength. We carried out 10000-on-1 damage tests to investigate the fluence damage thresholds of the designed MLD gratings and mirrors, which were found between 100-230 mJ/cm 2 . An ultrashort pulsed laser (FWHM = 53 fs, λ = 1.9 μ m) operating at 500 Hz was used in the serpentine raster scans. The atomic force microscope images of the damage sites show blister formation of the underlying layers at lower fluences but ablation of the grating pillars at higher fluences. We simulated the dynamic electronic excitation in the MLD optics with a finite-difference in the time domain approach in 2D. The simulation results agree well with the LIDT measurements and the observed blister formation. This model is able to evaluate the absolute LIDT of MLD gratings.

Laser-induced patterning for a diffraction grating using the phase change material of Ge 2 Sb 2 Te 5 (GST) as a spatial light modulator in X-ray optics: a proof of concept

The proposed X-ray spatial light modulator (SLM) concept is based on the difference of X-ray scattering from amorphous and crystalline regions of phase change materials (PCMs) such as Ge 2 Sb 2 Te 5 (GST). In our X-ray SLM design, the “ on” and “ off” states correspond to a patterned and homogeneous state of a GST thin film, respectively. The patterned state is obtained by exposing the homogeneous film to laser pulses. In this paper, we present patterning results in GST thin films characterized by microwave impedance microscopy and X-ray small-angle scattering at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource.

A Molecular-MNIST Dataset for Machine Learning Study on Diffraction Imaging and Microscopy

An image dataset of 10 different size molecules, where each molecule has 2,000 structural variants, is generated from the 2D cross-sectional projection of Molecular Dynamics trajectories. The purpose of this dataset is to provide a benchmark dataset for the increasing need of machine learning, deep learning and image processing on the study of scattering, imaging and microscopy.
