The SIERRA Low Mach Module: Fuego, henceforth referred to as Fuego, is the key element of the ASC fire environment simulation project. The fire environment simulation project is directed at characterizing both open large-scale pool fires and building enclosure fires. Fuego represents the turbulent, buoyantly-driven incompressible flow, heat transfer, mass transfer, combustion, soot, and absorption coefficient model portion of the simulation software. Sierra/PMR handles the participating-media thermal radiation mechanics. This project is an integral part of the SIERRA multi-mechanics software development project. Fuego depends heavily upon the core architecture developments provided by SIERRA for massively parallel computing, solution adaptivity, and mechanics coupling on unstructured grids.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) utilizes AI/ML to analyze open-source information, including satellite imagery and scientific publications, to verify the completeness of State declarations regarding nuclear activities. AI/ML already assist the IAEA with automating processes and analysis of large datasets, including satellite imagery and unstructured data, improving efficiency and effectiveness of safeguards implementation. AI/ML in nuclear safeguards come with its own challenges that include the need for large, unbiased datasets, the risk of AI-generated fake information, including the potential for manipulation of satellite imagery.

Conference presentation at American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) Conference, Houston, Texas, March 28–30, 2022. An overview of the novel and sustainable monitoring techniques developed by the University of North Dakota's Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) and its commercial partners for the Red Trail Energy (RTE) carbon capture and storage (CCS) project.

Ultra-Fast timing detectors, having a time resolution of 10pSec or less, are becoming increasingly important for many scientific disciplines, including High Energy Physics, Nuclear Physics, Medical Imaging and more. When developing ultra-fast detectors such as MCPs, LAPPDs, LGADs, SNSPDs, it is necessary to have access to a readout system that is low power, can support many channels and is cost effective. The PSEC5 chip was an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) developed by the pioneering group of Prof. Henry Frisch at University of Chicago and micro electronic engineers at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Three boards were designed, two to implement the readout system for an LAPPD and one to only characterize the PSEC1 chip. The main goal of the project shifted to setting up a testing environment to focus on the characterization of the chip. My student and I tested and characterized this ASIC using the third chip-on-board printed circuit board. Results show the successful fabrication and operation of some of the key building blocks and lead to the suggestions on modification for the second iteration of the chip.

The slides give an overview of the progress to date on project Tripwire.
This report documents the software testing which has been performed for STAT7 Version 2.0 (hereafter STAT7 v2.0), a code for the statistical propagation of uncertainties in steady-state thermal hydraulics (TH) analysis of plate-fueled research and test reactors. The key capabilities addressed in this testing were selected based on the use of the software for analysis work supporting the conversion to low-enriched uranium fuel of U.S. High-Performance Research Reactors (USHPRR) such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Research Reactor (MITR-II). This testing scope includes comparison of the code’s statistical processing capabilities using statistical tests, comparison of coolant property evaluations to NIST data tables, and systematic comparison of key TH solver capabilities to the results of hand calculations and to predictions from PLTEMP/ANL Version 4.4. In response to a Letter Request from the International Atomic Energy Agency to the United States Support Program, the NNSA’s Nuclear Reference Material Program (NRMP) tasked the Material Signatures and Isotopic Standards (MSIS) group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory to prepare 50 units of a U-233 CRM standard with a unit size of approximately 10 µg of U-233.
