Study of h c → 3 ( π + π − ) π 0 , h c → 2 ( π + π − ) ω , h c → 2 ( π + π − ) π 0 η , h c → 2 ( π + π − ) η , and h c → p p ¯

Based on ( 2712.4 ± 14.1 ) × 10 6 ψ ( 3686 ) events collected with the BESIII detector, we study the decays h c → 3 ( π + π − ) π 0 , h c → 2 ( π + π − ) ω , h c → 2 ( π + π − ) π 0 η , h c → 2 ( π + π − ) η , and h c → p p ¯ via ψ ( 3686 ) → π 0 h c . The decay channel h c → 3 ( π + π − ) π 0 is observed for the first time, and its branching fraction is determined to be ( 9.28 ± 1.14 ± 0.77 ) × 10 − 3 , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition, first evidence is found for the modes h c → 2 ( π + π − ) π 0 η and h c → 2 ( π + π − ) ω with significances of 4.8 σ and 4.7 σ , and their branching fractions are determined to be ( 7.55 ± 1.51 ± 0.77 ) × 10 − 3 and ( 4.00 ± 0.86 ± 0.35 ) × 10 − 3 , respectively. No significant signals of h c → 2 ( π + π − ) η and h c → p p ¯ are observed, and the upper limits of the branching fractions of these decays are determined to be < 6.19 × 10 − 4 and < 4.40 × 10 − 5 at the 90% confidence level, respectively. High pressure chemical reactivity and structural study of the Na–P and Li–P systems

In this work, the Na–P and Li–P chemical systems were studied under pressure using synchrotron X-ray diffraction in a diamond anvil cell up to 20 GPa, combined with the AIRSS ab initio random structure searching technique. The results reveal an enhanced reactivity of both alkali metals with phosphorous at slightly elevated pressures. This enables the synthesis of Li 3 P and Na 3 P at room temperature (RT) starting from element precursors, bypassing the established chemical synthesis methods. Both compounds undergo a pressure-induced phase transition from the hexagonal Na 3 As-type structure (stable at ambient conditions) towards a Fm m (FCC) structure that remains stable up to 20 GPa. Attempts to synthesize compounds with higher alkali metal content (such as Li 5 P) using high-temperature and -pressure conditions (up to 2000+ K and 30 GPa), inspired by recent theoretical predictions, were not successful.

Ultrawide bandgap semiconductor heterojunction p–n diodes with distributed polarization-doped p-type AlGaN layers on bulk AlN substrates

Ultrawide bandgap heterojunction p–n diodes with polarization-induced AlGaN p-type layers are demonstrated using plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy on bulk AlN substrates. Current–voltage characteristics show a turn-on voltage of Vbi≈5.5 V, a minimum room temperature ideality factor of η≈1.63, and more than 12 orders of current modulation at room temperature. A stable current operation of the ultrawide bandgap semiconductor diode is measured up to a temperature of 300 °C. The one-sided n+–p heterojunction diode design enables a direct measurement of the spatial distribution of polarization-induced mobile hole density in the graded AlGaN layer from the capacitance–voltage profile. The measured average mobile hole density is p∼5.7×1017 cm−3, in close agreement with what is theoretically expected from distributed polarization doping. Light emission peaked at 260 nm (4.78 eV) observed in electroluminescence corresponds to interband radiative recombination in the n+ AlGaN layer. A much weaker deep-level emission band observed at 3.4 eV is attributed to cation-vacancy and silicon complexes in the heavily Si-doped AlGaN layer. These results demonstrate that distributed polarization doping enables ultrawide bandgap semiconductor heterojunction p–n diodes that have wide applications ranging from power electronics to deep-ultraviolet photonics. These devices can operate at high temperatures and in harsh environments.

Analysis of Unpolarised p+p¿ Photoproduction with the GlueX Experiment

This thesis presents measurements of spin-density matrix elements in unpolarised p+p? photoproduction on a proton target. The dominant resonance contribution to the dipion system is the r(770) meson. Due to the large production cross section for this resonance, a valid comparison can be made between the obtained final results and r(770) spin-density matrix elements measured previously with other experiments. The measurement was performed over the 3:0 ? 11:6 GeV beam energy regime, which is a more extensive energy range than has ever been studied previously for the r(770). Results were obtained by analysing data from the GlueX experiment based at Jefferson Lab. Extended maximum likelihood fits were applied to extract three spin-density matrix elements using Markov chain Monte Carlo based parameter estimations. This was performed using various binning configurations to probe the energy, mass, and four-momentum transfer dependence of the determined physics observables. Spin-density matrix elements are shown to be consistent with the model of s-channel helicity conservation at low ?t. The effects of pomeron and f2 exchanges are clearly visible in the energy dependence of the measured observables. These observations provide valuable insights into the relative strengths of both processes as a function of the photon energy, and may enable theorists to disentangle the f2=P coupling ratio. Spin-density matrix elements are seen to be highly dependent on the reconstructed resonance mass. This observation is likely to be a result of non-resonant S-wave background processes, and emphasises the need for a more detailed model of the p+p? angular distribution that considers all of the competing angular momentum components that contribute to the measured final state. The statistical precision of measurements performed for this thesis surpass what was achievable in previous studies of the r(770) by several orders of magnitude. Studies of the energy and four-momentum transfer dependence, and insights into the effects of non r(770) background contributions provide valuable input for production models. This will help inform the choice of wave-sets used for partial wave analyses, supporting GlueX in its search for exotic hybrid meson states.

Measurement of the Photoproduction Cross-Section of f1(1285) in the Exclusive Reactions p¿ p'K±KSp± AT 7.5 < E¿ < 11.5 GeV with GlueX at Jefferson Lab

The f1(1285) meson is commonly understood to belong to the axial-vector nonet as the low-mass isoscalar partner to the f1(1420) but has been suggested as a candidate for a KK?+c.c molecule. A nearly mass-degenerate 0?+ state has been observed in ? p scattering that calls into question the established branching ratios of the f1(1285) decays. Recently, the differential cross-section for the photoproduction of f1(1285) was measured by the CLAS experiment and the results disagreed with theoretical predictions. Additionally, the CLAS experiment did not observe a mass-degenerate 0?+ state. We present the results of the first photoproduction cross-section measurement d?/dt of f1(1285) at 7.5 < E? < 11.5 GeV from the GlueX experiment at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in the reactions ? p ? p?K?Ks?+ and ? p ? p?K+Ks??. We find that the production mechanism of f1(1285) is consistent with t-channel exchange. We also observe a difference in the differential cross-section of f1(1285) as a function of ?t as measured in the charge conjugated K?Ks?± decay modes that we hypothesize to be due to baryonic N? interference. The observed distributions of M(KK) and M(K?) are consistent with both a q ¯ q state and predictions for a KK?+c.c molecular state. Additionally, we find that the cross-section at low M(KK?) is dominated by the 1++ state.

Measurement of the helicity asymmetry E for the reaction $$ \gamma p\rightarrow \pi ^0 p$$: The CBELSA/TAPS Collaboration

Abstract A measurement of the double-polarization observable E for the reaction $$\gamma p\rightarrow \pi ^0 p$$ γ p → π 0 p is reported. The data were taken with the CBELSA/TAPS experiment at the ELSA facility in Bonn using the Bonn frozen-spin butanol (C $$_4$$ 4 H $$_9$$ 9 OH) target, which provided longitudinally-polarized protons. Circularly-polarized photons were produced via bremsstrahlung of longitudinally-polarized electrons. The data cover the photon energy range from $$E_\gamma =600$$ E γ = 600 to 2310 MeV and nearly the complete angular range. The results are compared to and have been included in recent partial wave analyses.

$$\pi ^-p\rightarrow \eta ^{(\prime )}\, \pi ^- p$$ in the double-Regge region: Joint Physics Analysis Center

Abstract The production of $$\eta ^{(\prime )}\pi $$ η ( ′ ) π pairs constitutes one of the golden channels to search for hybrid exotics, with explicit gluonic degrees of freedom. Understanding the dynamics and backgrounds associated to $$\eta ^{(\prime )}\pi $$ η ( ′ ) π production above the resonance region is required to impose additional constraints to the resonance extraction. We consider the reaction $$\pi ^-p\rightarrow \eta ^{(\prime )} \pi ^- \,p$$ π - p → η ( ′ ) π - p measured by COMPASS. We show that the data in $$2.4< m_{\eta ^{(\prime )}\pi } < 3.0{\mathrm {\,GeV}} $$ 2.4 < m η ( ′ ) π < 3.0 GeV can be described by amplitudes based on double-Regge exchanges. The angular distribution of the meson pairs, in particular in the $$\eta ' \pi $$ η ′ π channel, can be attributed to flavor singlet exchanges, suggesting the presence of a large gluon content that couples strongly to the produced mesons.

BaCu 4/3 Si 2/3 P 2 and BaCu 2–( x + y ) Zn x Si y P 2 : Expanding the Semiconducting Landscape in the ThCr 2 Si 2 -Type Family

ThCr 2 Si 2 -type layered materials are a large family of compounds with applications ranging from thermoelectricity to magnetism, with the vast majority of the members exhibiting metallic behavior. Here, in this study, we synthesized a new group of materials with Cu-Si and Cu-Zn-Si square nets with the general formula BaCu 1.33 Si 0.67 P 2 and BaCu 2–(x+y) Zn x Si y P 2 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.9; 0.3 ≤ y ≤ 0.7). Several synthesized compounds are charge-balanced semiconductors, which are rare in the ThCr 2 Si 2 family. All the reported compounds crystallize in the ThCr 2 Si 2 -type tetragonal I4/mmm space group, with Cu/Zn/Si jointly occupying the same 4d crystallographic site. In the Zn-free composition, BaCu 1.33 Si 0.67 P 2 , Ba, and P each occupy a single crystallographic site. The introduction of Zn results in the expansion of the unit cell and splitting the Ba atomic sites along the [001] direction. Such structural displacement of the Ba atoms was confirmed by the heat capacity measurements. Band structure and density-of-states calculations on ordered hypothetical structural models reveal either a small bandgap (∼0.2 eV) or semimetallic band structures. The compounds reported here exhibit high Seebeck coefficients and ultralow thermal conductivity, making them promising candidates for the development of thermoelectric materials.

Mechanistic Insights into CO 2 Electroreduction on Ni 2 P: Understanding Its Selectivity toward Multicarbon Products

Recently, nickel phosphides (Ni x P y ) have been reported to enable selective electrochemical formation of multicarbon products (C 3 and C 4 ) via the CO 2 reduction reaction (CO 2 RR); nevertheless, their activities remain low. In order to understand the roots of their high selectivity and low activity and to direct the design of more active Ni x P y -based CO 2 RR catalysts, we investigate the CO 2 RR mechanism on Ni 2 P using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Iin this work, we reveal that the reaction proceeds through the formate pathway, followed by formaldehyde (H 2 CO*) formation and self-condensation. Moreover, we demonstrate that surface hydride transfer steps, along with surface-mediated C–C coupling, are essential in order to avoid C 1 product formation and boost selectivity toward multicarbon products. In addition, we find that the thermal surface hydride transfer from the surface to the physisorbed CO 2 is one of the key rate-limiting steps, and since it is not electroactive, it cannot be accelerated by applying an overpotential. Finally, our results also show that the hydrogen affinity of the surface and the dynamic surface reconstruction via H adsorption facilitate selective CO 2 reduction and C–C coupling on Ni 2 P. These findings provide an impetus for exploring materials design space to identify the physical principles that govern the thermodynamics of rate-limiting thermal steps in electrocatalytic processes.

Pseudorapidity distributions of charged particles in pp($\bar p$), p(d)A and AA collisions using Tsallis thermodynamics

The pseudorapidity distributions of charged particles measured in p + p($\overline{\text{p}}$) collisions for energies ranging from $\sqrt{{s}_{\mathrm{N}\mathrm{N}}}=23.6$ GeV to 13 TeV and A + A collisions at RHIC and LHC are investigated in the fireball model with Tsallis thermodynamics. We assume that the rapidity axis is populated with fireballs following q-Gaussian distribution and the charged particles follow the Tsallis distribution in the fireball. We also extend the fireball model to asymmetric collision systems, i.e. d + Au collisions at $\sqrt{{s}_{\mathrm{N}\mathrm{N}}}=200$ GeV and p + Pb collisions at $\sqrt{{s}_{\mathrm{N}\mathrm{N}}}=5.02$ TeV, by taking into account the asymmetric geometry configuration. The model can fit the experimental data well for all the collision systems and centralities investigated. The collision energy and centrality dependence of the model parameters for the symmetric (asymmetric) collision system, i.e. the central position y 0 (y 0a , y 0A ) and its width σ (σ a , σ A ) of the fireball distribution, are also investigated and discussed. Furthermore, our results suggest that the fireball model with Tsallis thermodynamics can be used as a universal framework for the pseudorapidity distributions of charged particles in high energy collisions at RHIC and LHC.

Isotropic parallel antiferromagnetism in the magnetic field induced charge-ordered state of $\mathrm{Sm Ru_4 P_{12}}$ caused by $p - f$ hybridization

Nature of the field-induced charge-ordered phase (phase II) of SmRu 4 P 12 has been investigated by resonant x-ray diffraction (RXD) and polarized neutron diffraction (PND), focusing on the relationship between the atomic displacements and the antiferromagnetic (AFM) moments of Sm. From the analysis of the interference between the nonresonant Thomson scattering and the resonant magnetic scattering, combined with the spectral function obtained from x-ray magnetic circular dichroism, it is shown that the AFM moment of Sm prefers to be parallel to the field (m AF ∥ H), giving rise to large and small moment sites around which the P 12 and Ru cage contract and expand, respectively. This is associated with the formation of the staggered ordering of the Γ 7 -like and Γ 8 -like crystal-field states, providing a strong piece of evidence for the charge order. PND was also performed to obtain complementary and unambiguous conclusion. In addition, isotropic and continuous nature of phase II is demonstrated by the field-direction invariance of the interference spectrum in RXD. Finally, crucial role of the p-f hybridization is shown by resonant soft x-ray diffraction at the P K edge (1s↔3p), where we detected a resonance due to the spin polarized 3p orbitals reflecting the AFM order of Sm.

Thermonuclear reaction rate of 30 Si($p, γ$) 31 P

Silicon synthesis in high-temperature hydrogen burning environments presents one possible avenue for the study of abundance anomalies in globular clusters. This was suggested in a prior study, which found that the large uncertainties associated with the Si 30 ( p , γ ) P 31 reaction rate preclude a firm understanding of the stellar conditions that give rise to the Mg-K anticorrelation observed in the globular cluster NGC 2419. In an effort to improve the reaction rate, we present new strength measurements of the E r lab = 435 keV and E r lab = 501 keV resonances in Si 30 ( p , γ ) P 31 . For the former, which was previously unobserved, we obtain a resonance strength of ω γ = ( 1.14 ± 0.25 ) × 10 – 4 eV. For the latter, we obtain a value of ω γ = ( 1.88 ± 0.14 ) × 10 – 1 eV, which has a smaller uncertainty compared to previously measured strengths. Based on these results, the thermonuclear reaction rate has been re-evaluated. The impact of the new measurements is to lower the reaction rate by a factor of ≈ 10 at temperatures important to the study of NGC 2419. The rate uncertainty at these temperatures has also been reduced significantly.

Cross sections of the 83 Rb⁢(p,γ)⁢ 84 Sr and 84 Kr⁢(p,γ)⁢ 85 Rb reactions at energies characteristic of the astrophysical γ process

We have measured the cross section of the Rb 83 ( p , γ ) Sr 84 radiative capture reaction in inverse kinematics using a radioactive beam of Rb 83 at incident energies of 2.4 and 2.7 A MeV. Prior to the radioactive beam measurement, the Kr 84 ( p , γ ) Rb 85 radiative capture reaction was measured in inverse kinematics using a stable beam of Kr 84 at an incident energy of 2.7 A MeV. The effective relative kinetic energies of these measurements lie within the relevant energy window for the γ process in supernovae. The central values of the measured partial cross sections of both reactions were found to be 0.17 – 0.42 times the predictions of statistical model calculations. Assuming the predicted cross section at other energies is reduced by the same factor leads to a slightly higher calculated abundance of the p nucleus Sr 84 , caused by the reduced rate of the Sr 84 ( γ , p ) Rb 83 reaction derived from the present measurement.

K*(892) 0 meson production in inelastic p+p interactions at 158 GeV/ c beam momentum measured by NA61/SHINEat the CERN SPS

The measurement of Κ*(892) 0 resonance production via its Κ⁺π⁻ decay mode in inelastic p+p collisions at beam momentum 158 Ge V/c (√ S ΝΝ = 17.3 Ge V) is presented. The data were recorded by the NA61/SHINE hadron spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. The template method was used to extract the K*(892) 0 signal and double-differential transverse momentum and rapidity spectra were obtained. The full phase-space mean multiplicity of K*(892) 0 mesons was found to be (78.44 ± 0.38(stat) ± 6.0(sys)) ∙ 10 -3 . The NA61/SHINE results are compared with the EPOS1.99 and Hadron Resonance Gas models as well as with world data from p+p and nucleus-nucleus collisions.

Transverse Single Spin Asymmetries of Heavy Flavor Electrons and Charged Pions in 200 GeV $p+p^{\uparrow}$ Collisions at Midrapidity

Transverse single spin asymmetries of particles produced in p+p^{\uparrow} p + p ↑ collisions provide insight on the partonic spin and momentum structure of hadrons; heavy flavor electrons provide access to initial state spin-momentum correlations of gluons in the proton, while charged pions provide access to initial and final state transverse spin effects. Charged particles are measured at midrapidity at PHENIX using the silicon vertex detector and central arm spectrometer, made of an electromagnetic calorimeter, a ring-imaging Cherenkov detector, and drift and pad chambers. Recent results for both electron and charged pion measurements from the 2015 running period will be presented.
