Resource-Adaptive Federated Text Generation with Differential Privacy

In cross-silo federated learning (FL), sensitive text datasets remain confined to local organizations due to privacy regulations, making repeated training for each downstream task both communication-intensive and privacy-demanding. A promising alternative is to generate differentially private (DP) synthetic datasets that approximate the global distribution and can be reused across tasks. However, pretrained large language models (LLMs) often fail under domain shift, and federated finetuning is hindered by computational heterogeneity: only resource-rich clients can update the model, while weaker clients are excluded, amplifying data skew and the adverse effects of DP noise. We propose a flexible participation framework that adapts to client capacities. Strong clients perform DP federated finetuning, while weak clients contribute through a lightweight DP voting mechanism that refines synthetic text. To ensure the synthetic data mirrors the global dataset, we apply control codes (e.g., labels, topics, metadata) that represent each client’s data proportions and constrain voting to semantically coherent subsets. This two-phase approach requires only a single round of communication for weak clients and integrates contributions from all participants. Experiments show that our framework improves distribution alignment and downstream robustness under DP and heterogeneity.

Comparisons of triple-differential cross sections for quasielastic-like $ν_μ$-hydrocarbon interactions using $\langle E_ν\rangle \sim$ 3~GeV versus $\sim$ 6~GeV beams in MINERvA

Neutrino charged-current quasielastic-like scattering, a reaction category extensively used in neutrino oscillation measurements, receives contributions from single nucleon knockout processes, multinucleon processes, and inelastic scattering with subsequent rescattering or absorption in the nucleus to produce only nucleons in the final state. In this article, comparisons are presented of the same measurement in two different wideband neutrino beams: one beam peaks near 3 GeV with few neutrinos above 6 GeV; the other peaks near 6 GeV with few neutrinos above 10 GeV. Comparisons of differential cross sections in muon and proton kinematics for these two exposures probe deviations from free-neutron scattering that arise from the processes involving the nuclear medium, and provide a test of neutrino interaction models used to infer neutrino energies in oscillation experiments. Discrepancies are observed between the data and predictions that point to overestimates of the final state interactions of both protons and charged pions in quasielastic-like events.

Measurement of $\nu_\mu/\bar\nu_\mu$ CC double-differential cross sections on MINERvA hydrocarbon target for the shallow inelastic scattering background region

Cross section measurements are essential for all neutrino oscillation experiments. In fact, uncertaintiesassociated to cross section model parameters constitute one of the dominant sources oferrors in current oscillation analyses. In particular, understanding neutrino-induced pion productionin the kinematic regime known as shallow inelastic scattering (SIS) is critical for improvingneutrino interaction modeling in event generators. In this study, 416,233 (237,468) muon neutrino(antineutrino) interactions are measured in a SIS background region, predominantly made ofbaryon resonances. The analyzed datasets were collected from 2013 to 2019, comprising neutrinosgenerated by the Fermilab NuMI facility, with mean energy of 6 GeV, and the interactions occurredon the MINERvA hydrocarbon target. The measurements are presented as double-differential crosssections in terms of the outgoing muon longitudinal and transverse momentum components, aswell as the Bjorken x and y variables. Comparisons between the extracted data and predictionsfrom several generators reveal significant discrepancies across most kinematic bins.

Stage-local partitioned two-step runge-kutta methods for large systems of ordinary differential equations

We introduce stage-local partitioned two-step Runge-Kutta methods are an extension of standard two-step Runge-Kutta methods, which are an alternative to the standard additive two-step Runge-Kutta methods currently existing in the literature. Furthermore, these new schemes are designed with an eye towards truly N-partitioned systems and leverage local stage approximations to make several computationally interesting approximations viable. Specifically, the focus on local stage approximations makes possible the construction of truly asynchronous schemes, in the parallel sense, possible. In addition, we show that an implicit-explicit approach to these schemes can lead to methods that require the inversion of only local nonlinear systems.

Bounded motion design in the Earth zonal problem using differential algebra based normal form methods

Establishing long-term relative bounded motion between orbits in perturbed dynamics is a key challenge in astrodynamics to enable cluster flight with minimum propellant expenditure. Herein, we present an approach that allows for the design of long-term relative bounded motion considering a zonal gravitational model. Entire sets of orbits are obtained via high-order Taylor expansions of Poincarè return maps about reference fixed points. The high-order normal form algorithm is used to determine a change in expansion variables of the map into normal form space, in which the phase space behavior is circular and can be easily parameterized by action–angle coordinates. The action–angle representation of the normal form coordinates is then used to parameterize the original Poincarè return map and average it over a full phase space revolution by a path integral along the angle parameterization. As a result, the averaged nodal period and drift in the ascending node are obtained, for which the bounded motion conditions are straightforwardly imposed. Sets of highly accurate bounded orbits are obtained, extending over several thousand kilometers, and valid for decades.

Ion Number Density Quantification Utilizing Pulsing Frequency in Negative Differential Resistance (NDR) Regime of Microplasma Operation

A mathematical model is presented for quantifying the ion number density over a range of discharge current in microplasma discharges. The ion number density is determined from measured discharge voltage, current, pulsing frequency, and trace impurity that is injected into the system deliberately. Experiments are conducted in pure helium with nitrogen being introduced as the trace species. The ion number density is estimated over a range of discharge current and is compared with multidimensional simulation results.

Using Differential Forms to Find Symmetries in the Noh Problem for an Ideal Gas in a Spherical System

The Euler equations describe inviscid, compressible gas flow and are derived using the laws of conservation of mass, momentum, and energy. From these equations a common test problem, the Noh problem, can be solved for invariant solutions in planar, cylindrical, and spherical geometries. Using Lie group analysis methods, we will solve the Noh Problem for an ideal gas in a spherical system.

A Graded, Porous Composite of Natural Biopolymers and Octacalcium Phosphate Guides Osteochondral Differentiation of Stem Cells

Abstract Lesions involving the osteochondral unit are difficult to treat. Biomimetic scaffolds are previously shown as promising alternative. Such devices often lack multiple functional layers that mimic bone, cartilage, and the interface. In this study, multilayered scaffolds are developed based on the use of natural extracellular matrix (ECM)‐like biopolymers. Particular attention is paid to obtain a complex matrix that mimics the native osteochondral transition. Porous, sponge‐like chitosan‐collagen‐octacalcium phosphate (OCP) scaffolds are obtained. Collagen content increases while the amount of OCP particles decreases toward the cartilage layer. The scaffolds are bioactive as a mineral layer is deposited containing hydroxyapatite at the bony side. The scaffolds stimulate proliferation of human adipose‐derived mesenchymal stem cells, but the degree of proliferation depends on the cell seeding density. The scaffolds give rise to a zone‐specific gene expression. RUNX2, COL1A1, BGLAP, and SPP1 are upregulated in the bony layer of the scaffold. SOX9 is upregulated concomitant with COL2A1 expression in the cartilage zone. Mineralization in presence of the cells is prominent in the bone area with Ca and P steadily increasing over time. These results are encouraging for the fabrication of biomimetic scaffolds using ECM‐like materials and featuring gradients that mimic native tissues and their interface.
