Lithography using quantum entangled particles

A system of etching using quantum entangled particles to get shorter interference fringes. An interferometer is used to obtain an interference fringe. N entangled photons are input to the interferometer. This reduces the distance between interference fringes by n, where again n is the number of entangled photons.

Entanglement in Self-Supervised Dynamics

A new type of correlation has been developed similar to quantum entanglement in self-supervised dynamics (SSD). SSDs have been introduced as a quantum-classical hybrid based upon the Madelung equation in which the quantum potential is replaced by an information potential. As a result, SSD preserves the quantum topology along with superposition, entanglement, and wave-particle duality. At the same time, it can be implemented in any scale including the Newtonian scale. The main properties of SSD associated with simulating intelligence have been formulated. The attention with this innovation is focused on intelligent agents interaction based upon the new fundamental non-New tonian effect; namely, entanglement.

Modeling Entanglement-Based Quantum Key Distribution for the NASA Quantum Communications Analysis Suite

One of the most practical, and sought after, applications of quantum mechanics in the field of information science is the use of entanglement distribution to communicate quantum information effectively. Similar to the continued improvements of functional quantum computers over the past decade, advances in demonstrations of entanglement distribution over long distances may enable new applications in aeronautics and space communications. The existing NASA Quantum Communications Analysis Suite (NQCAS) software models such applications, but limited experimental data exists to verify the model’s theoretical results. There is, however, a large body of experimental data in the relevant literature for entanglement-based quantum key distribution (QKD). This paper details a Monte Carlo based QKD model that uses NQCAS input parameters to generate an estimated QKD link budget for verification of NQCAS. The model generates link budget statistics like key rates, error rates, and S values that can then be compared to the experimental values in the literature. Preliminary comparisons show many similarities between the simulated and experimental data, supporting the model’s validity. A verified NQCAS model will inform experimental work conducted in Glenn Research Center’s (GRC) NASA Quantum Metrology Laboratory (NQML), supporting the United States Quantum Initiative and potential NASA missions.

Two-Photon Entanglement and EPR Experiments Using Type-2 Spontaneous Parametric Down Conversion

Simultaneous entanglement in spin and space-time of a two-photon quantum state generated in type-2 spontaneous parametric down-conversion is demonstrated by the observation of quantum interference with 98% visibility in a simple beam-splitter (Hanburry Brown-Twiss) anticorrelation experiment. The nonlocal cancellation of two-photon probability amplitudes as a result of this double entanglement allows us to demonstrate two different types of Bell's inequality violations in one experimental setup.

Entanglement-Assisted Communication System for NASA's Deep-Space Missions

For this project we have studied various forms of quantum communication, and quantum-enhanced classical communication. In particular, we have performed the first realization of a novel quantum protocol, superdense teleportation. We have also showed that in some cases, the advantages of superdense coding (which enhances classical channel capacity by up to a factor of two) can be realized without the use of entanglement. Finally, we considered some more advanced protocols, with the goal to realize 'superactivation' - two entangled channels have capabilities beyond the sum of the individual channels-and conclude that more study is needed in this area.

Disentangling the Entangled Linkages of Magnetic Helicity

Magnetic helicity, H, measures magnetic linkages in a volume. The early theoretical development of helicity focused on magnetically closed systems in V bounded by ∂V. For magnetically closed systems, V ∈ R -3 = V + V∗, no magnetic flux threads the boundary, n̂ · B|∂V = 0. Berger & Field (1984) and Finn & Antonsen (1985) extended the definition of helicity to relative helicity, H, for magnetically open systems where magnetic flux may thread the boundary. Berger (1999, 2003) expressed this relative helicity as two gauge invariant terms that describe the self helicity of magnetic field that closes inside V and the mutual helicity between the magnetic field that threads the boundary ∂V and the magnetic field that closes inside V. The total magnetic field that permeates V entangles magnetic fields that are produced by current sources J in V with magnetic fields that are produced by current sources J∗ in V∗. Building on this fact, we extend Berger’s expressions for relative magnetic helicity to eight gauge invariant quantities that simultaneously characterize both of these self and mutual helicities and attribute their origins to currents J in V and/or J∗ in V∗, thereby disentangling the domain of origin for these entangled linkages. We arrange these eight terms into novel expressions for internal and external helicity (self) and internal-external helicity (mutual) based on their domain of origin. The implications of these linkages for interpreting magnetic energy is discussed and new boundary observables are proposed for tracking the evolution of the field that threads the boundary.

Free-space Forwarded-pump Entanglement Source Synchronization

We investigate entanglement source synchronization using a forwarded-pump signal sent over a 3.2-km free-space retro-reflected link. Results show sub-picosecond alignment between the sources. The paper considers several fundamental and practical aspects of this approach.

Rotational fluid coupling eliminates hose entanglements

Rotational fluid coupling mechanism circulates a temperature controlled fluid between a stationary heat exchanger and a coolant plate on a rotating platform. The mechanism consists of two concentric cylinders containing one or more flexible tubes which are controlled and positioned in such a way that it eliminates tubing entanglement.

Effects of the Stark Shift on the Evolution of the Field Entropy and Entanglement in the Two-Photon Jaynes-Cummings Model

The evolution of the field entropy in the two-photon JCM in the presence of the Stark shift is investigated, and the effects of the dynamic Stark shift on the evolution of the field entropy and entanglement between the atom and field, are examined. The results show that the dynamic Stark shift plays an important role in the evolution of the field entropy in two-photon processes.
