Flow-Straightener Sleeve for Pump Valve

Flow-straightening sleeve contains vanes in modified honeycomb pattern. Each vane curved fluid-dynamic wing that helps straighten and smooth out flow of fluid passing over it. Sleeve performs more reliably and quietly, possibility of damage to internal valve parts greatly reduced, valve life expectancy increased and time between overhauls extended.

Pressurized Sleeve

Garment part sustains pressure differential without unduly restricting the user. Sleeve withstands pressure difference of 8 lb/in2 while allowing wearer fairly easy movement. Sleeve consists of low-torque joint hardware, sewn fabric sections, and lengthwise strips of fabric that restrain sections.

Sleeve Protects Axle When Wheel Is Changed

Sleeve protects chromium-plated surface near outer end of axle from scratches during wheel changes. Installed on outer end of axle after axle nut removed but before wheel replaced. Attached by use of same thread engaging axle nut during operation. Designed to fit axle on nose landing gear on Space Shuttle, underlying sleeve concept applicable to commercial and military aircraft and ground vehicles as well.

Extending mARC II Arc-Jet Test Duration via Design and Implementation of Model System Cooling Sleeve

The mARC II is a 30 kW arc-jet facility at NASA Ames Research Center used to generate high-enthalpy flows for low-cost thermal protection system (TPS) technology development. Sustained operation of downstream instrumentation and material samples is constrained by thermal loading transmitted through the arc-jet test environment, limiting achievable run times and experimental throughput. This work presents the design, integration, and validation of a cooling sleeve implemented on the sweep arm drive motor feedthrough to mitigate thermal accumulation during testing. The addition of the cooling sleeve is a simple, robust upgrade that translates directly into enhanced facility capability by supporting longer run durations, reduced turnaround time, and higher throughput.

Nuclear fuel rods and heat pipes in a graphite moderator matrix for a micro-reactor, with the fuel rods having fuel pellets in a BeO sleeve

A reactor unit cell is disclosed including a graphite moderator structure, a heat pipe positioned in the graphite moderator structure, and a fuel assembly positioned in the graphite moderator structure. The fuel assembly comprises at least one fuel rod. Each fuel rod comprises a beryllium-oxide sleeve and nuclear fuel positioned in the beryllium-oxide sleeve.

IER305: Molybdenum Sleeve Experiments in the Sandia Critical Experiments Facility [Slides]

This presentation is on the Molybdenum (Mo) sleeve experiments at the Sandia Critical Experiments Facility. The Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire (IRSN) performed the preliminary design of the experiment. IRSN performed the final nuclear design of the experiment. Sandia performed the detailed design of the experiment to make it work in the critical assembly and Sandia also oversaw the fabrication and installation of the hardware. The slides include cutaway and overall views and a look into the results.

New nut and sleeve improve flared connections

Improved nut and sleeve of standard stainless steel flared tube connection allows forces on the mating surfaces to be uniformly applied. This can be applied to pressurized fluid systems such as refrigeration, air conditioning, and hydraulic systems.

Tool separates sleeve-type unions without heat

Tool that uses conventional milling and cutting techniques separates sleeve type tubing unions and tubes without using heat. A selection of holders, associated bits, and cutting wheels permits preparation of varied diameter unions.

Pipe joints reinforced in place with fitted aluminum sleeves

Installation of an aluminum sleeve, using specially designed tools, reinforces solder- sealed ferrule joints in installed small-diameter aluminum tubing. Tubing joints reinforced by this method withstand considerable torsional tensional, and vibrational stresses at moderately elevated temperatures.

Concept for sleeve induction motor with 1-msec mechanical time constant

Conductive sleeve induction motor having a 1-msec mechanical time constant is used with solid-state devices to control all-electric servo power systems. The servomotor rotor inertia is small compared to the maximum force rating of the servo motion, permitting high no-load acceleration.

Temperature compensated sleeve type mirror mount

The primary mirror of a large (26-inch diameter aperture) solar telescope was made of glass ceramic and designed with an integral hub on the back of the center of the mirror. This permits heat from the mirror to radiate off its back to a nearby cold plate. To permit mounting without high stresses, the hub was ground down to a smooth cylindrical surface 3.5 inch in diameter. The ground surface was then acid-etched to remove 0.007 inch (on the diameter) by immersion for five minutes in a mixture of four parts 92% sulfuric acid and three parts 50% hydrofluoric acid. The acid etching removes microcracks from the ground Cer-Vit surface. An Invar sleeve was fabricated to fit over the hub with about 0.010 inch radial (0.020 inch diametral) clearance.
