Search for a heavy neutral lepton with the MAGNETO-𝜈 experiment using 241 Pu 𝛽 − decays

The MAGNETO-𝜈 experiment searches for keV-scale heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) through precise measurements of the 𝛽 − -decay spectrum of 241 Pu. We present spectra comprising a total of 194 million 𝛽 − decays recorded using decay energy spectrometry with metallic magnetic calorimeters, representing the most statistically precise measurement of 241 Pu 𝛽 − decay to date. The 𝛽-endpoint energy was determined using 𝛾 rays and x-rays from an external 133 Ba calibration source, yielding 𝑄 𝛽 = 22.273⁢ (33) ⁢keV. The measured spectrum shows no statistically significant deviation from the allowed 𝛽-decay model. From a subset of the high-statistics data, we set an upper limit on the mixing of an 11.5-keV HNL with the electron neutrino, |𝑈 𝑒⁢4 | 2 < 1.31 × 10 −3 at the 95% confidence level.

Parity-violating inelastic electron-proton scattering at low Q 2 above the resonance region

We report the measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry for the inelastic scattering of electrons from the proton, at $Q^2 = 0.082$ GeV$^2$ and $ W = 2.23$ GeV, above the resonance region. The result $A_{\rm Inel} = - 13.5 \pm 2.0 ({\rm stat}) \pm 3.9 ({\rm syst})$ ppm agrees with theoretical calculations, and helps to validate the modeling of the $\gamma Z$ interference structure functions $F_1^{\gamma Z}$ and $F_2^{\gamma Z}$ used in those calculations, which are also used for determination of the two-boson exchange box diagram ($\Box_{\gamma Z}$) contribution to parity-violating elastic scattering measurements. A positive parity-violating asymmetry for inclusive $\pi^-$ production was observed, as well as positive beam-normal single-spin asymmetry for scattered electrons and a negative beam-normal single-spin asymmetry for inclusive $\pi^-$ production.

First search for the weak radiative decays Λ$^+_c$ → Σ + γ and Ξ$^0_c$ → Ξ 0 γ

We present the first search for the weak radiative decays Λ$^+_c$ → Σ + γ and Ξ$^0_c$ → Ξ 0 γ using a data sample of 980 fb -1 collected by the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e - collider. There are no evident Λ$^+_c$ → Σ + γ or Ξ$^0_c$ → Ξ 0 γ signals. Taking the decays Λ$^+_c$ → pK - π + and Ξ$^0_c$ → Ξ - π + as normalization channels, the upper limits at 90% credibility level on the ratios of branching fractions $\mathcal{B}$(Λ$^+_c$ → Σ + γ)/$\mathcal{B}$(Λ$^+_c$ → pK - π + ) < 4.0 x 10 -3 and $\mathcal{B}$(Ξ$^0_c$ → Ξ 0 γ)/$\mathcal{B}$(Ξ$^0_c$ → Ξ - π + ) < 1.2 x 10 -2 are determined. We obtain the upper limits at 90% credibility level on the absolute branching fractions $\mathcal{B}$(Λ$^+_c$ → Σ + γ) < 2.6 x 10 -4 and $\mathcal{B}$(Ξ$^0_c$ → Ξ 0 γ) < 1.8 x 10 -4 .

Relevance of one-loop SMEFT matching in the 2HDM

The two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM) is a well understood alternative to the Standard Model of particle physics. If the new particles included in the 2HDM are at an energy scale much greater than the weak scale, the theory can be matched to the Standard Model effective field theory (SMEFT). We compute for the first time the complete one-loop matching at dimension-6. We compare its numerical impact with that of tree-level matching at dimension-8 by performing a global fit to single Higgs and precision electroweak measurements, and we emphasize the importance of comparing one-loop SMEFT results with corresponding one-loop results in the full 2HDM model. In the SMEFT, we consider the relative importance of both one-loop matching and the inclusion of renormalization group evolution. Our results demonstrate the necessity of studying the impact of various expansions to quantify the uncertainties of the SMEFT matching. Published by the American Physical Society 2024
