Auxiliary coil controls temperature of RF induction heater

Auxiliary coil controls the temperature of an RF induction furnace that is powered by a relatively unstable RF generator. Manual or servoed adjustments of the relative position of the auxiliary coil, which is placed in close proximity to the RF coil, changes the looseness of the RF coil and hence the corresponding heating effect of its RF field.

A Low-Frequency Generator

The need for a stable source of low-frequency power is often encountered in studies of recording-instruments performance. Indeed, in laboratory work involving the design and analysis of servo mechanisms in general, a low-frequency signal source is of paramount importance. The generator described herein was designed specifically to serve as a signal source for determination of the frequency characteristics of the various recording instruments in use at this Laboratory. Flexibility and convenience of operation in the dynamic testing of recording instruments characterize the generator which has been evolved.

System maintains constant penetration during fusion welding

Servo system senses variations in fusion welding process, and adjusts the control parameters to compensate for them. The system assumes a correlation between uniform weld penetration and temperature gradients near the molten puddle. It senses weld properties and makes adjustments to travel speed and weld current.

Digital techniques used in the steering apparatus of the GPO steerable aerial at Goonhilly Downs

A discription of the logic design for the digital control equipment is followed by further descriptions of items of particular interest. The means of applying off-sets to the demanded aerial position for over-coming possible inaccuracy of the predicted orbit; and to demand accuratly determined velocities manually; means of conversion from pure binary form to provide displays in terms of angles, and the derivation of analogue voltages for the for the servo-amplifiers are discussed in detail. A critical analysis of the equipment in the light of operational experience concludes the paper.

Improved dc voltage multiplier

Circuit multiplies a dc input voltage in the millivolt range to yield a larger dc output voltage bearing a fixed ratio to the input voltage. The supply voltage need not be precisely regulated, the potentiometer need not be linear, and the gain of servo amplifier is not critical.

Method of reducing time base error in digital magnetic recorders

Apparatus reduces Time Base Error /TBE/ in the playback of digital data from magnetic recording equipment. The apparatus uses a magnet which employs a servo position control of the tape by which the playback data clock is phase locked with a fixed frequency reference signal.

Improved electromechanical master-slave manipulator

Electric master-slave manipulator uses force multiplication and allows the operator to remotely control the slave arm. Both the master and slave arms execute seven distinct motions by a specially designed force-reflecting servo having a one to one correspondence between the motion at the master and slave.

Low-cost, fast-response drive circuit for electromagnetic torque motors

Fast-response coil drive circuit, for electromagnetic torque motors, reduces the inductive coil time constant with a minimum of circuit sophistication. The low-cost modulator servoamplifier is used with a compatible preamplifier stage which provides the servo-loop function of summing, adjustable gain and compensation.

Pulse-code-modulation baseline correction for low signal-to-noise ratios

Time-shared integrate-hold-dump circuits separate the dc level due to the signal /bit information/ from the dc signal due to the baseline error. The system detects the baseline error, filters it, and then algebraically adds enough voltage to a servo loop to reduce the error to zero.

Electronically controlled motor drive system has ultra-high reliability and long lifetime

Direct drive electromechanical system is composed of brushless dc torque motor, offset-tooth magnetic sensor that derives position and rate information directly from output shaft, and rotary power transformer that transfers electrical power from external source to proper load. System has high servo loop stiffness and minimum power consumption.
