Programmable controller system for wind tunnel diversion vanes

A programmable controller (PC) system automatic sequence control, which acts as a supervisory controller for the servos, selects the proper drives, and automatically sequences the vanes, was developed for use in a subsonic wind tunnel. Tunnel modifications include a new second test section (80 ft x 100 ft with a maximum air speed capability of 110 knots) and an increase in maximum velocity flow from 200 knots to 300 knots. A completely automatic sequence control is necessary in order to allow intricate motion of the 14 triangularly arranged vanes which can be as large as 70 ft high x 35 ft wide and which require precise acceleration and deceleration control. Rate servos on each drive aid in this control, and servo cost was minimized by using four silicon controlled rectifier controllers to control the 20 dc drives. The PC has a programming capacity which facilitated the implementation of extensive logic design. A series of diagrams sequencing the vanes and a block diagram of the system are included.

Anthropomorphic master/slave manipulator system

An anthropomorphic master/slave manipulator system including master arm apparatus with a plurality of master tubular articulated portions is outlined. Objectives of this investion were to provide a system that accurately and smoothly simulates human limb movement at a remote location. The system has a high frequency response, a high structural stiffness and a design that protects the components of the slave mechanism. Simulation of human movements is possible in outer space, underwater, and in a hazardous environment such as in a high radiation area. The equivalent ability, dexterity, and strength of a human arm are simulated.

Master/slave manipulator system

System capabilities are equivalent to mobility, dexterity, and strength of human arm. Arrangement of torque motor, harmonic drive, and potentiometer combination allows all power and control leads to pass through center of slave with position-transducer arrangement of master, and "stovepipe joint" is incorporated for manipulator applications.

A flight simulator for advanced aircraft - Servo design to realization.

Discussion of computer-aided design results obtained for a moving-base, three-man flight simulator. From a control viewpoint, the structure is discussed in terms of disturbance torques, damping ratios, natural frequencies, load acceleration, and smoothness. The use of inertia to achieve well-behaved structural transfer functions and smooth or high fidelity load accelerations is demonstrated. Transfer functions in the complex frequency domain, as well as time-dependent solutions to the system, are derived. The relative merits of using position and/or velocity as primary feedback, for a limited travel acceleration device, are discussed. Root locus plots, which were utilized in the control-system design, Bode plots, and time-dependent plots are drawn. In addition, the theoretical ratio of velocity to commanded input Bode plot is compared to the experimental results, and the dramatic effect on the load smoothness plot caused by selecting velocity over position as primary feedback is shown.

An anthropomorphic master-slave manipulator system.

Review of some of the results of a teleoperator systems technology program devoted to the development of an anthropomorphic unilateral master-slave manipulator system. Following a discussion of the mechanical design details and servo design considerations, the developed system's test results are presented.
