Aqueous solution-based synthesis approach for carbon-disordered rocksalt composite cathode development and its limitations

Disordered rocksalt cathodes exhibit high specific capacities and high energy density; however, their low electronic conductivity poses a great challenge. Herein, we explored an aqueous-solution-based synthesis route that involves controlling the surface charges of Li 1.2 Mn 0.6 Ti 0.2 O 1.8 F 0.2 (LMTOF) to be anchored by a few-layer reduced graphene oxide (rGO) for the first time. The uniform rGO wrapping on the surface of the LMTOF particles is achieved by electrostatic attraction between the negatively charged rGO and positively charged LMTOF particles. Although the initial specific capacity of rGO-LMTOF composite increased by 58 % compared to the pristine LMTOF, the composite experienced a severe capacity fade over cycling. The synthesis process in an aqueous medium resulted in Li + /H + exchange and TM dissolution as evidenced from inductively coupled plasmon analysis and X-ray diffraction analysis. Therefore, this work suggests the search for alternative media or conditions for the synthesis of carbon-disordered rock salt cathode composite.

High performance Calcium Copper Titanate/Polyimide dielectrics composites enabled through colloidal stabilization

Transition to electrified transportation demands advanced power electronic components with the capability to improve range, reliability, and cost of ownership to accelerate mass market adoption. Thus, improvement in the current designs, manufacturing processes, materials, and components capable of providing reliable and efficient operation at higher temperatures play important roles in meeting future needs. To address these challenges, this article focuses on novel dielectric materials designed to reduce the volume of the most important and bulky component of a power electronic system, a capacitor. A new composite dielectric material was developed by integrating the positive attributes of both polymer and ceramic capacitors to overcome the challenges of state-of-the-art dielectric materials. Further, the developed composite properties have been evaluated and showed promising results, achieving a dielectric constant of 250 at 100 Hz, 25°C, unseen in current literature. Additionally, these materials can function at high temperatures (>150°C) with good breakdown strength, providing promising working conditions for capacitors, especially in electric vehicle applications.

The role of ferrites in wireless charging systems for electric vehicles

This review examines the critical role of magnetic ceramic ferrites in wireless charging systems (WCS) for electric vehicles (EVs). With the increasing shift towards electrifying motor vehicles, advanced charging systems are needed to optimize EV range and performance. Magnetic materials are vital in WCS, as they act as a coupler that enhances power transfer. However, design limitations in weight and size motivate the need for systems tailored to meet a range of specifications. Additionally, ferrite systems can be tailored by altering composition, microstructure, and processing. Furthermore, this review examines advanced manufacturing techniques for improved ferrite design and identifies future directions for ferrite core research to meet future WCS needs.
