Medium-induced modification of azimuthal correlations of electrons from heavy-flavor hadron decays with charged particles in Pb–Pb collisions at $\mathbf {\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} = 5.02}$ TeV

The azimuthal-correlation distributions between electrons from the decays of heavy-flavor hadrons and associated charged particles in Pb–Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV are reported for the 0–10% and 30–50% centrality classes. This measurement provides access to the jet-like correlation observables in the heavy-flavor sector in Pb–Pb collisions. The analysis is performed for trigger electrons from heavy-flavor hadron decays with transverse momentum $4< p_\textrm{T}^\textrm{e} < 16~\textrm{GeV}/c$, considering associated particles within the transverse-momentum range $1< p_\textrm{T}^\textrm{assoc} < 7$ GeV/c, and a pseudorapidity difference of $|\Delta \eta |<1$ between the trigger electron and associated particles. The per-trigger nuclear modification factor ( I AA ) is calculated to compare the near- and away-side peak yields to those in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 5.02$ TeV. In 0–10% central collisions, the indicates a hint of enhancement of associated-particle yields with $p_\textrm{T}<3$ GeV/c on the near side, and a suppression of yields with $p_\textrm{T}>4$ GeV/c on the away side. The I AA for electron triggers from heavy-flavor hadron decays is compared with that for light-flavor and strange-particle triggers to investigate the dependence on different fragmentation processes and parton-medium dynamics, and is found to be the same within uncertainties.

Space-time evolution of particle emission in p–Pb collisions at $\sqrt{{s}_{\text{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV with 3D kaon femtoscopy

The measurement of three-dimensional femtoscopic correlations between identical charged kaons (K Β± K Β± ) produced in p–Pb collisions at center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair $\sqrt{{s}_{\text{NN}}}=5.02$ TeV with ALICE at the LHC is presented for the first time. This measurement, supplementary to those in pp and Pb–Pb collisions, allows understanding the particle-production mechanisms at different charged-particle multiplicities and provides information on the dynamics of the source of particles created in p–Pb collisions, for which a general consensus does not yet exist. It is shown that the measured source sizes increase with charged-particle multiplicity and decrease with increasing pair transverse momentum. These trends for K Β± K Β± are similar to the ones observed earlier in identical charged-pion and ${\text{K}}_{\text{s}}^{0}{\text{K}}_{\text{s}}^{0}$ correlations in Pb–Pb collisions at various energies and in Ο€ Β± Ο€ Β± correlations in p–Pb collisions at $\sqrt{{s}_{\text{NN}}}=5.02$ TeV. At comparable multiplicity, the source sizes measured in p–Pb collisions agree within uncertainties with those observed in pp collisions, and there is an indication that they are smaller than those observed in Pb–Pb collisions. The obtained results are also compared with predictions from the hadronic interaction model EPOS 3, which tends to underestimate the source size for the most central collisions and agrees with the data for semicentral and peripheral events. Furthermore, the time of maximal emission for kaons is extracted. It turns out to be comparable with the value obtained in highly peripheral Pb–Pb collisions at the same energy, indicating that the kaon emission evolution is similar to that in p–Pb collisions.

Measurement of the angle between jet axes in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ =5.02 TeV

This paper presents the first measurement of the angle between different jet axes (denoted as Δ⁒𝑅 axis ) in Pb-Pb collisions. The measurement is carried out in the 0–10 % most-central events at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV. Jets are assembled by clustering charged particles at midrapidity using the anti-π‘˜ T algorithm with resolution parameters 𝑅 = 0.2 and 0.4 and transverse momenta in the intervals 40 < 𝑝$^{ch jet}_{T}$ < 140 GeV/𝑐 and 80 < 𝑝$^{ch jet}_{T}$ < 140 GeV/𝑐, respectively. Measurements at these low transverse momenta enhance the sensitivity to quark-gluon plasma (QGP) effects. A comparison to models implementing various mechanisms of jet energy loss in the QGP suggests that the observed narrowing of the Pb-Pb distribution relative to 𝑝𝑝 can be explained if quark-initiated jets are more likely to emerge from the medium than gluon-initiated jets. These new measurements disfavor intrajet 𝑝 T broadening as implemented in a simple model calculation with the Baier-Dokshitzer-Mueller-Peigne-Schiff formalism for energy loss in the QGP. The comparison of Pb-Pb and 𝑝𝑝 collisions shows sensitivity to the angular scale at which the QGP can resolve two independent splittings, favoring mechanisms that incorporate incoherent energy loss.

$\overline{\Sigma }^{\pm }$ production in $\text {pp}$ and $\text {p}{-}\text{Pb}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV with ALICE

The transverse momentum spectra and integrated yields of anti-$Ξ£$ hyperons ($\overline{\Sigma}^{\pm}$) have been measured in and collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV with the ALICE experiment. Measurements are performed via the newly accessed decay channel $\overline{\Sigma}^{\pm}$ β†’ $\bar{\textrm{n}}Ο€^Β±$. A new method of antineutron reconstruction with the PHOS electromagnetic spectrometer is developed and applied to this analysis. The p T spectra of $\overline{\Sigma}^{\pm}$ are measured in the range 0.5 < p T < 3 GeV/c and compared to predictions of the PYTHIA 8, DPMJET, PHOJET, EPOS LHC and EPOS4 models. The EPOS LHC and EPOS4 models provide the best descriptions of the measured spectra both in pp and p-Pb collisions, while models which do not account for multiparton interactions provide a considerably worse description at high p T . The total yields of $\overline{\Sigma }^{\pm }$ in both pp and p-Pb collisions are compared to predictions of the Thermal-FIST model and dynamical models PYTHIA 8, DPMJET, PHOJET, EPOS LHC and EPOS4. All models reproduce the total yields in both colliding systems within uncertainties. The nuclear modification factors R pPb for both $\overline{\Sigma}^{+}$ and $\overline{\Sigma}^{-}$ are evaluated and compared to those of protons, $Ξ›$ and $Ξ$ hyperons, and predictions of EPOS LHC and EPOS4 models. No deviations of R pPb for $\overline{\Sigma}^{\pm}$ from the model predictions or measurements for other hadrons are found within uncertainties.

$\Sigma ^{+}$ production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{\textit{s}}=13$ TeV

The measurement of $\Sigma ^{+}$ production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV is presented. The measurement is performed at midrapidity in both minimum-bias and high-multiplicity pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. The $\Sigma ^{+}$ is reconstructed via its weak-decay topology in the decay channel $\Sigma ^{+} \rightarrow \mathrm{{p}} + \pi ^{0}$ with $\pi ^{0} \rightarrow \gamma + \gamma$. In a novel approach, the neutral pion is reconstructed by combining photons that convert in the detector material with photons measured in the calorimeters. The transverse-momentum $(p_{\textrm{T}})$ distributions of the $\Sigma ^{+}$ and its rapidity densities dN/dy in both event classes are reported. The $p_{\textrm{T}}$ spectrum in minimum-bias collisions is compared to QCD-inspired event generators. The ratio of $\Sigma ^{+}$ to previously measured Ξ› baryons is in good agreement with calculations from the Statistical Hadronization Model. The high efficiency and purity of the novel reconstruction method for $\Sigma ^{+}$ presented here will enable future studies of the interaction of $\Sigma ^{+}$ with protons in the context of femtoscopic measurements, which could be crucial for understanding the equation of state of neutron stars.

Accessing the deuteron source with pion-deuteron femtoscopy in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV

Femtoscopy of nonidentical particle pairs has been instrumental for precision measurements of both two-particle sources and the final-state interactions in high-energy elementary and heavy-ion collisions. The majority of measurements assessing the source properties are based on identical particle pairs, providing direct access to the characteristics of the single-particle source. The work in this paper demonstrates, via femtoscopy measurements of charged pion-deuteron pairs in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV, the feasibility of accessing the characteristics of the single-particle femtoscopic source by using particle pairs with large mass differences such as pions and deuterons. The first experimental results of the measurement of deuteron source sizes in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions are presented. The results show good agreement with the trend derived from other charged hadrons such as pions, kaons, and protons as a function of transverse mass, indicating similar source properties.

Multiplicity dependence of ${\Xi }_{\text{c}}^{+}$ and ${\Xi }_{\text{c}}^{0}$ production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV

The first measurement at midrapidity (|y| < 0.5) of the production yield of the strange-charm baryons $Ξ$$^{+}_{c}$ and $Ξ$$^{0}_{c}$ as a function of transverse momentum (p T ) in different charged-particle multiplicity classes in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC is reported. The $Ξ$$^{+}_{c}$ baryon is reconstructed via the $Ξ$$^{+}_{c}$ β†’ $Ξ$ – Ο€ + Ο€ + decay channel in the range 4 < p T < 12 GeV/c, while the $Ξ$$^{0}_{c}$ baryon is reconstructed via both the $Ξ$$^{0}_{c}$ β†’ $Ξ$ – Ο€ + and $Ξ$$^{0}_{c}$ β†’ $Ξ$ – e + Ξ½ e decay channels in the range 2 < p T < 12 GeV/c. The baryon-to-meson ($Ξ$$^{0}_{c}$ + /D 0 ) and the baryon-to-baryon ($Ξ$$^{0}_{c}$ + /Ξ›$^{+}_{c}$) production yield ratios show no significant dependence on multiplicity. In addition, the observed yield ratios are not described by theoretical predictions that model charm-quark fragmentation based on measurements at e + e βˆ’ and e βˆ’ p colliders, indicating differences in the charm-baryon production mechanism in pp collisions. A comparison with different event generators and tunings, including different modelling of the hadronisation process, is also discussed.

Dielectron production in central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02TeV

The first measurement of the 𝑒 + ⁒𝑒 βˆ’ pair production at midrapidity and low invariant mass in central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. The yield of 𝑒 + ⁒𝑒 βˆ’ pairs is compared with a cocktail of expected hadronic decay contributions in the invariant mass (π‘šπ‘’β’π‘’) and pair transverse momentum (𝑝 T,𝑒⁒𝑒 ) ranges π‘š 𝑒⁒𝑒 < 3.5 GeV/𝑐 2 and 𝑝 T,𝑒⁒𝑒 < 8 GeV/𝑐. For 0.18 < π‘š 𝑒⁒𝑒 < 0.5 GeV/𝑐 2 the ratio of data to the cocktail of hadronic contributions amounts to 1.40 Β± 0.11⁒(stat.) Β± 0.23 ⁒(syst.) Β± 0.16⁒ (cocktail) and 1.42 Β± 0.11⁒ (stat.) Β± 0.23 (syst.)$^{+0.24}_{βˆ’0.29}$ ⁒(cocktail), including or not including medium effects in the estimation of the heavy-flavor background, respectively. It is consistent with predictions from two different models for an additional contribution of thermal 𝑒+β’π‘’βˆ’ pairs from the hadronic and partonic phases. In the intermediate-mass range (1.2 < π‘š 𝑒⁒𝑒 < 2.6 GeV/𝑐 2 ), the pair transverse impact parameter of the 𝑒 + ⁒𝑒 βˆ’ pairs (DCA𝑒⁒𝑒, where β€œDCA” denotes β€œdistance of closest approach”) is used for the first time in Pb-Pb collisions to separate displaced dielectrons from heavy-flavor hadron decays from a possible (thermal) contribution produced at the interaction point. The data are consistent with a suppression of 𝑒 + ⁒𝑒 βˆ’ pairs from $𝑐\bar{𝑐}$ and an additional prompt component. Finally, the first direct-photon measurement in the 10% most central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV is reported via the study of virtual direct photons in the transverse momentum range 1 < 𝑝 T < 5 GeV/𝑐. A model including prompt photons, as well as photons from the preequilibrium and fluid-dynamic phases, can reproduce the result, while being at the upper edge of the data uncertainties.

Study of $\langle {p}_{\text{T}}\rangle$ and its higher moments, and extraction of the speed of sound in Pb-Pb collisions with ALICE

Ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions produce a state of hot and dense strongly interacting QCD matter called quark-gluon plasma (QGP). On an event-by-event basis, the volume of the QGP in ultracentral collisions is mostly constant, while its total entropy can vary significantly due to quantum fluctuations, leading to variations in the temperature of the system. Exploiting this unique feature of ultracentral collisions allows for the interpretation of the correlation of the mean transverse momentum ($\langle$p T $\rangle$) of produced charged hadrons and the number of charged hadrons as a measure for the speed of sound, c s . This speed is related to the rate at which compression waves travel in the QGP and is determined by fitting the relative increase in $\langle$p T $\rangle$ with respect to the relative change in the average charged-particle density ($\langle$dN ch /dΞ·$\rangle$) measured at mid-rapidity. This study reports the event-average $\langle$p T $\rangle$ of charged particles as well as the variance, skewness, and kurtosis of the event-by-event transverse momentum per charged particle ([p T ]) distribution in ultracentral Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair using the ALICE detector. Different centrality estimators based on charged-particle multiplicity or the transverse energy of the event are used to select ultracentral collisions. By ensuring a pseudorapidity gap between the region used to define the centrality and the region used to perform the measurement, the influence of biases and their potential effects on the rise of the mean transverse momentum is tested. The measured c$^{2}_{s}$ is found to strongly depend on the exploited centrality estimator and ranges between 0.1146Β±0.0028 (stat.)Β±0.0065 (syst.) and 0.4374Β±0.0006 (stat.)Β±0.0184 (syst.) in natural units. The self-normalized variance shows a steep decrease towards ultracentral collisions, while the self-normalized skewness variables show a maximum, followed by a fast decrease. These non-Gaussian features are understood in terms of the vanishing of the impact-parameter fluctuations contributing to the event-to-event [p T ] distribution.

Measurement of πœ” meson production in 𝑝⁒𝑝 and 𝑝-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV

We present the measurement of the 𝑝 T -differential production cross section of πœ” mesons in pp and 𝑝-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV at midrapidity by ALICE. In addition, the first measurement of the nuclear modification factor 𝑅 𝑝⁒Pb for πœ” mesons at LHC energies is presented, complementing the existing measurements of lighter neutral mesons such as the πœ‹ 0 and πœ‚. Within the measured 𝑝 T range, the 𝑅 𝑝⁒Pb of πœ” mesons is compatible with no cold nuclear matter effects within the uncertainties, consistent with previous measurements at lower energies. The πœ”/πœ‹ 0 ratio is presented for both collision systems, showing no collision system dependence within the uncertainties. The comparison to previously published πœ”/πœ‹ 0 ratios at lower and higher collision energies in pp collisions suggests a decreasing trend of the ratio above 𝑝T = 4 GeV/𝑐 with increasing collision energy. The data in both collision systems are compared to predictions from PYTHIA 8, EPOS LHC, and DPMJET event generators, revealing significant shortcomings in these models’ ability to describe the production of πœ” mesons.

First measurement of D* + vector meson spin alignment in Pb–Pb collisions at $\sqrt{{s}_{\text{NN}}}={5}.0{2}$ TeV

The first measurement of prompt D *+ -meson spin alignment in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions with respect to the direction orthogonal to the reaction plane is presented. The spin alignment is quantified by measuring the element ρ 00 of the diagonal spin-density matrix for prompt D *+ mesons with 4 < p T < 30 GeV/c in two rapidity intervals, |y| < 0.3 and 0.3 < |y| < 0.8, in central (0–10%) and midcentral (30–50%) Pb–Pb collisions at $\sqrt{{s}_{\text{NN}}}={5}.0{2}$ TeV. Evidence of spin alignment ρ 00 > 1/3 has been found for p T > 15 GeV/c and 0.3 < |y| < 0.8 with a significance of 3.1Οƒ. The measured spin alignment of prompt D *+ mesons is compared with the one of inclusive J/ψ mesons measured at forward rapidity (2.5 < y < 4).

Measurement of correlations among net-charge, net-proton, and net-kaon multiplicity distributions in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV

Correlations among conserved quantum numbers, such as the net-electric charge, the net-baryon, and the net-strangeness in heavy-ion collisions, are crucial for exploring the QCD phase diagram. In this paper, these correlations are investigated using net-proton number (as a proxy for the net-baryon), net-kaon number (for the net-strangeness), and net-charged particle number in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector. The observed correlations deviate from the Poissonian baseline, with a more pronounced deviation at LHC energies than at RHIC. Theoretical calculations of the Thermal-FIST hadron resonance gas model, HIJING, and EPOS LHC event generators are compared with experimental results, where a significant impact of resonance decays is observed. Thermal-FIST calculations under the grand canonical and canonical ensembles highlight significant differences, underscoring the role of local charge conservation in explaining the data. Recent lattice QCD studies have demonstrated that the magnetic field generated by spectator protons in heavy-ion collisions affects susceptibility ratios, in particular those related to the net-electric charge and the net-baryon numbers. The experimental findings are in qualitative agreement with the expectations of lattice QCD.

First measurement of symmetric cumulants of hexagonal flow harmonics in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV

Correlations between event-by-event fluctuations of anisotropic flow harmonics are measured in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5.02 TeV, as recorded by the ALICE detector at the LHC. This study presents correlations up to the hexagonal flow harmonic 𝑣 6 , which was measured for the first time. The magnitudes of these higher-order correlations are found to vary as a function of collision centrality and harmonic order. These measurements are compared to viscous hydrodynamic model calculations with EKRT initial conditions and to the iEBE-VISHNU model with T R ⁒ENTo initial conditions. The observed discrepancies between the data and the model calculations vary depending on the harmonic combinations. Due to the sensitivity of model parameters estimated with Bayesian analyses to these higher-order observables, the results presented in this work provide new and independent constraints on the initial conditions and transport properties in theoretical models used to describe the system created in heavy-ion collisions.

Light neutral-meson production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{\text{s}}$ = 13 TeV

The momentum-differential invariant cross sections of Ο€ 0 and Ξ· mesons are reported for pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV at midrapidity (|y| < 0.8). The measurement is performed in a broad transverse-momentum range of 0.2 < p T < 200 GeV/c and 0.4 < p T < 60 GeV/c for the Ο€ 0 and Ξ·, respectively, extending the p T coverage of previous measurements. Transverse-mass-scaling violation of up to 60% at low transverse momentum has been observed, agreeing with measurements at lower collision energies. Transverse Bjorken x (x T ) scaling of the Ο€ 0 cross sections at LHC energies is fulfilled with a power-law exponent of n = 5.01 Β± 0.05, consistent with values obtained for charged pions at similar collision energies. The data are compared to predictions from next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations, where the Ο€ 0 spectrum is best described using the CT18 parton distribution function and the NNFF1.0 or BDSS fragmentation function. Expectations from PYTHIA8 and EPOS LHC overestimate the spectrum for the Ο€ 0 and are not able to describe the shape and magnitude of the Ξ· spectrum. The charged-particle multiplicity dependent Ο€ 0 and Ξ· p T spectra show the expected change of the spectral shape, characterized by a flatter slope with increasing multiplicity. This is demonstrated across a broad transverse-momentum range and up to events with a charged-particle multiplicity exceeding five times the mean value in minimum bias collisions. The Ξ·/Ο€ 0 ratio depends on the charged-particle multiplicity for p T < 4 GeV/c. PYTHIA8 and EPOS LHC qualitatively explain this behavior with an increasing contribution from the feed-down of heavier particles to the Ο€ 0 spectrum.

Multiplicity-dependent inclusive J/ ψ production at forward rapidity in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

This paper presents a study of the inclusive forward J/ψ yield as a function of forward charged-particle multiplicity in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV using data collected by the ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC. The results are presented in terms of relative J/ψ yields and relative charged-particle multiplicities with respect to these quantities obtained in inelastic collisions having at least one charged particle in the pseudorapidity range |Ξ·| < 1. The J/ψ mesons are reconstructed via their decay into ΞΌ + ΞΌ βˆ’ pairs in the forward rapidity region (2.5 < y < 4). The relative multiplicity is estimated in the forward pseudorapidity range which overlaps with the J/ψ rapidity region. The results show a steeper-than-linear increase of the J/ψ yields versus the multiplicity. They are compared with previous measurements and theoretical model calculations.

J/ ψ -hadron correlations at midrapidity in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

We report on the measurement of inclusive, non-prompt, and prompt J/ψ-hadron correlations by the ALICE Collaboration at the CERN Large Hadron Collider in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The correlations are studied at midrapidity (|y| < 0.9) in the transverse momentum ranges p T < 40 GeV/c for the J/ψ and 0.15 < p T < 10 GeV/c and |Ξ·| < 0.9 for the associated hadrons. The measurement is based on minimum bias and high multiplicity data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of L int = 34 nb βˆ’1 and L int = 6.9 pb βˆ’1 , respectively. In addition, two more data samples are employed, requiring, on top of the minimum bias condition, a threshold on the tower energy of E = 4 and 9 GeV in the ALICE electromagnetic calorimeters, which correspond to integrated luminosities of L int = 0.9 pb βˆ’1 and L int = 8.4 pb βˆ’1 , respectively. The azimuthally integrated near and away side yields of associated charged hadrons per J/ψ trigger are presented as a function of the J/ψ and associated hadron transverse momentum. The measurements are discussed in comparison to PYTHIA calculations.

Higher-order symmetry plane correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV

The correlations between event-by-event fluctuations of symmetry planes are measured in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV recorded by the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. This analysis is conducted using the Gaussian estimator technique, which is insensitive to biases from correlations between different flow amplitudes. The study presents, for the first time, the centrality dependence of correlations involving up to five different symmetry planes. The correlation strength varies depending on the harmonic order of the symmetry plane and the collision centrality. Comparisons with measurements from lower energies indicate no significant differences within uncertainties. Additionally, the results are compared with hydrodynamic model calculations. Although the model predictions provide a qualitative explanation of the experimental results, they overestimate the data for some observables. This is particularly true for correlators that are sensitive to the nonlinear response of the medium to initial-state anisotropies in the collision system. As these new correlators provide unique informationβ€”independent of flow amplitudesβ€”their usage in future model developments can further constrain the properties of the strongly interacting matter created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Measurement of the inclusive isolated-photon production cross section in pp and Pb–Pb collisions at $\mathbf {\sqrt{\textit{s}_{NN }} = 5.02}$ TeV

The ALICE Collaboration at the CERN LHC has measured the inclusive production cross section of isolated photons at midrapidity as a function of the photon transverse momentum (p$^{Ξ³}_{T}$), in Pb–Pb collisions in different centrality intervals, and in pp collisions, at centre-of-momentum energy per nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV. The photon transverse momentum range is between 10–14 and 40–140 GeV/c, depending on the collision system and on the Pb–Pb centrality class. The result extends to lower p$^{Ξ³}_{T}$ than previously published results by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the same collision energy. The covered pseudorapidity range is |Ξ· Ξ³ | < 0.67. The isolation selection is based on a charged particle isolation momentum threshold p$^{iso, ch}_{T}$ GeV/c within a cone of radii R = 0.2 and 0.4. The nuclear modification factor is calculated and found to be consistent with unity in all centrality classes, and also consistent with the HG-PYTHIA model, which describes the event selection and geometry biases that affect the centrality determination in peripheral Pb–Pb collisions. The measurement is compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations and to the measurements of isolated photons and Z 0 bosons from the CMS experiment, which are all found to be in agreement.
