Environmental Performance Report 2025: Annual Site Environmental Report per the U.S. Department of Energy Order 231.1B Chg 1

The National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) Environmental Performance Report provides a description of the laboratory's environmental management activities in calendar year 2025, including information on environmental performance, environmental compliance activities and status, and environmental protection programs, highlights, and successes. The purpose of this report is to ensure that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the public receive timely, accurate information about events that have positively affected or could adversely affect the health and safety of the public or workers, the environment, or the operations of DOE facilities. This report meets the DOE requirements of the Annual Site Environmental Report (ASER) and has been prepared in accordance with DOE Order 231.1B Chg 1, Environment, Safety and Health Reporting.

Space Programs Summary 37-43, Vol. VI, Space Exploration Programs and Space Sciences For the Period November 1 to December 31, 1966

The Space Programs Summary is a six-volume bimonthly publication designed to report on JPL space exploration programs and related supporting research and advanced development projects. The titles of all volumes of the Space Programs Summary are: Vol. I. The Lunar Program (Confidential) Vol. 11. The Planetary-Interplanetary Program (Confidential) Vol. 111. The Deep Space Network (Unclassified) Vol. IV. Supporting Research and Advanced Development (Unclassified) Vol. V. Supporting Research and Advanced Development (Confidential) Vol. VI. Space Exploration Programs and Space Sciences (Unclassified) The Space Programs Summary, Vol. VI, consists of: an unclassified digest of appropriate material from Vols. I, II, and III; an original presentation of the JPL quality assurance and reliability efforts, and the environmental- and dynamic-testing facility-development activities; and a reprint of the space science instrumentation studies of Vols. I and 11. This instrumentation work is conducted by the JPL Space Sciences Division and also by individuals of various colleges, universities, and other organizations. All such projects are supported by the Laboratory and are concerned with the development of instruments for use in the NASA space flight programs.

Advances in Tactical Rocket Propulsion

An AGARD Colloquium on 'Progress in Tactical Rocket Propulsion' was held at La Jolla, California, on April 22 and 23, 1965. The unclassified papers, or unclassified versions of classified papers, presented at this meeting form the contents of the present AGARD conference proceedings, which has been identified by a new title that reflects more properly the scope of the remaining technical papers. The articles contained in this volume represent significant evaluations of the status of solid-propellant, liquid-propellant and hybrid-propellant rocket development. Together with the reviews, they should provide a useful reference source for research workers and students alike.

Proceedings of the Third Space Processing Symposium Skylab Results: Volume 1

This publication contains the presentations from the Third Space Processing Symposium. These papers cover the results of Materials Processing Experiments conducted on NASA's SKYLAB flights and several related research activities for Materials Processing in Space beyond SKYLAB. Contents consist of the Welcoming Address by Dr. Rocco Petrone, Director, Marshall Space Flight Center; Introduction to Space Processing by Dr. Mathias P. Siebel, Director, Process Engineering Laboratory, Marshall Space Flight Center; thirty-eight papers; and the closing presentation titled Projected Future Space Processing Activities by Dr. James H. Bredt, Office of Applications, National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The Keynote Address was presented by Mr. Charles W. Shuttle-Mir [Мир-Шаттл] Supplement

This is a companion to an illustrated history book with the same title. This set of electronic files includes the full text and images in the book, as well as additional material. Interviews, photographs, and biographies of the U.S. Astronauts, cosmonauts, and team members for the Shuttle-Mir Program are available. STS Mission Summaries for each mission involved can be viewed, including launch and landing details, crew lists, and mission highlights. Photographs and videos from each mission are included, as well as diagrams of different spacecraft, and computer-generated animations of the Mir deorbit, collision, and flyaround. Additional documents include mission status reports, published documents, news releases, personal letters, and oral histories. The experiments carried out on Mir are described, highlighting combustion and fluid physics research, life in microgravity, and research of the development of the solar system. The focus on improving space technology and planning for the International Space Station is explained. The main features of the book itself include: (1) Training and Operations; (2) Long Duration Psychology; (3) Bilingual Blues; and (4) Earth Observations.

Intelsat-V: Nickel-hydrogen battery

A design program for the development of a nickel hydrogen battery is described. The design and design advantages of the battery are discussed. The general characteristics of the battery such as the strain gage cell pressure monitoring and the automatic low temperature heater control are reported along with the performance characteristics.

Manufacturing Research in Support of Saturn V

Research achievements applicable to the production of Saturn V components a r e described in this report. Leakage at the mechanical connections in high-pressure lines has been minimized or eliminated through the use of precisely flared tubes. Flaring to close tolerance is done with a n orbital flaring adapter, and the forming operation is precisely controlled with an electronic control console. A technique of “aging” or heat-treatment hardening of aluminum materials has been used to form cylindrical-tank segments and double-contoured gore segments precisely, and to remove weld distortions). The control of weld porosity has been improved as a result of research which demonstrated the close correlation between electrical energy input per inch of weld and weld porosity and metallurgical quality. Based on this information, the gas metallic arc method has been used successfully for two-pass welding, and thinner gage aluminum has been welded (LOX tunnel to fuel bulkhead) with an MSFC designed gas metallic arc unit.

First measurement of polarized spin-density matrix elements and differential cross sections dσ/dt in ω photoproduction off the proton for 2.7 < Eγ < 5.2 GeV using CLAS at Jefferson Lab

We report on the differential cross sections dσ/dt, the unpolarized spin-density matrix elements ρ 00 0 , ρ 1 − 1 0 , Re ρ 10 0 , and the first extraction of the polarized elements Im ρ 10 3 , Im ρ 1 − 1 3 for the reaction γp → pω using the CLAS spectrometer at Jefferson Laboratory. The ω mesons were detected in their dominant charged decay mode, ω → π + π − π 0 , and all t-dependent results are presented in a fine binning for incident photon energies between 2.73 and 5.16 GeV (corresponding to the center-of-mass energy range W ∈ [ 2.45, 3.25 ] GeV). All matrix elements are first measurements for − t > 0.6 GeV2. Moreover, differential cross sections dσ/d(cos Θ c . m . ω ) and the corresponding angle-dependent unpolarized spin-density matrix elements in the Adair frame are presented for the incident photon energy range 1.56–3.80 GeV (corresponding to W ∈ [ 1.95, 2.83 ] GeV). These new ω photoproduction data are consistent with earlier CLAS results but extend the energy range well beyond the nucleon resonance region into the Regge regime. The comparison with Regge-theory-based model predictions shows that the new data impose more stringent constraints on our understanding of ω photoproduction.

Elucidation of Design Criteria for V‐based Redox Mediators: Structure‐Function Relationships that Dictate Rates of Heterogeneous Electron Transfer

Redox mediators are attractive solutions for addressing the stringent kinetic stipulations required for efficient energy conversion processes. In this work, we compare the electrochemical properties of four vanadium complexes, namely [V(acac) 3 ], [V 6 O 7 (OMe) 12 ], [ n Bu 4 N] 3 [V 6 O 13 (TRIS NO2 ) 2 ], and [ n Bu 4 N] 5 [V 18 O 46 (NO 3 )] in non-aqueous solutions on glassy carbon electrodes. The goal of this study is to investigate the electron transfer kinetics and diffusivity of these compounds under identical experimental conditions to develop an understanding of structure-function relationships that dictate the physicochemical properties of vanadium oxide assemblies. Complex selection was dictated by two criteria – (1) nuclearity of the transition metal complexes (2) distribution of electron density in the native electronic configuration. In conclusion, our analyses establish that electronic communication between metal centers significantly impacts charge transfer kinetics of these vanadium-based compounds.
