System design package for solar heating and cooling site data acquisition subsystem

The Site Data Acquisition Subsystem (SDAS) designed to collect data from sensors located on residential or commercial buildings using a solar heating and/or cooling system is described. It takes the data obtained from sensors located on the solar system, processes the data into suitable format, stores the data for a period of time, and provides the capability for either telephone retrieval by the central data processing system or manual retrieval of the data for transfer to a central site. The SDAS is also designed so that it will not degrade the operation of the solar heating/cooling system which it is monitoring.

Subsystem design package for Mod 2 site data acquisition system: Solar heating and cooling

The Mod II Site Data Acquisition Subsystem (SDAS) is designed to collect data from sensors located on residential or commercial buildings using a solar heating and/or cooling system. The SDAS takes the data obtained from sensors located on the solar heating and/or cooling system, processes the data into a suitable format, stores the data for a period of time, and provides the capability for both telephone retrieval by the Central Data Processing System (CDPS) and manual retrieval of the data for transfer to the central site. The unit is designed so it will not degrade the operation of the solar heating/cooling system which it is monitoring.

Preparation of the Multi-Site Data Processing at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory’s Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) Camera is scheduled to start taking data in the summer of 2025. The Data Release Production will run the LSST Science Pipe software at data facilities in the US, France and the UK. The LSST Science Pipeline consists of complex directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) of tasks. Rubin will use the Production and Distributed Analysis (PanDA) workflow and workload management system to orchestrate this complex workflow and the distribution of workloads to the data facilities. When run end-to-end by a team of data production staff, this processing (the Science Pipelines, distributed by the workflow and workload management system) is referred to as a 'campaign'. This paper describes the central services and data facility specific services that support this multi-site data process model, including the service deployment infrastructure, the workload and workflow system, the Campaign Management tools, and connection to Rubin Data Management. This paper will also mention the experience of processing the Rubin Commissioning Camera data. All these are part of the effort to scale up the processing capabilities for the expected very large data volume from the LSST Camera.

Geologic evaluation of remote sensing data, site 157, Awza-Borrego Desert, California

Remote sensing data were obtained at site 157 in May 1968 under mission 73 of the NASA aircraft program. The site is located in an area of high temperatures and extreme aridity immediately west of the Imperial Valley, Southern California. Site 157 is partially surrounded by pre-Cenozoic crystalline rocks exposed in the Fish Creek, Vallecito, and Tierra Blanca Mountains. The study area itself is underlain by more than 20,000 feet of sedimentary strata of late Cenozoic age.

WINDPROF: Merged Best-Estimate Wind Profile Data – Site A1 (AWAKEN Campaign)

WINDPROF provides 10-minute wind and turbulence profiles, integrating Doppler lidars and anemometers during the AWAKEN campaign. Key data include wind speed, direction, vertical velocity, and turbulence parameters, with standardized quality control (e.g., instrument-specific thresholds and inter-instrument validation). Profiles are interpolated to a height grid (20 m spacing below 100 m; 30 m above) and include uncertainty estimates, offering reproducible methods for atmospheric research, model validation, and wind energy studies.

Integrating Radar, Multispectral, and Landing Site Data for Analysis of the Lunar Surface

Radar maps of the Moon have been produced since the late 1960s, and have been used by a number of authors to study the surface roughness, subsurface rock abundance, and dielectric properties of the lunar surface. These studies focused on a range of topics, including the depth and rock population of the regolith, crater ejecta blankets, pyroclastic mantling layers, and cryptomare deposits. Limited radar sounding data from the Apollo missions identified layering in some regions of the maria. As radar datasets have improved in resolution and calibration, it has become more possible to make quantitative comparisons between the backscatter properties of the Moon, other remote-sensing observations, and the ground truth provided by Surveyor photos and Apollo traverses. This presentation will focus on the results of recent studies of the lunar regolith that make use of these diverse sources of information, and discuss research directions that will be possible with radar data to be collected in the near future.
