Frequency Synthesizer For Tracking Filter

Digital frequency-synthesizing subsystem generates trains of pulses, free of jitter, for use as frequency-control signals in tracking filters. Part of assembly of electronic equipment used to measure vibrations in bearings in rotating machinery. Designed to meet requirements for tracking narrow-band cage-rotation and ball-pass components of vibrations, as discussed in "Frequency-Tracking Error Detector" (MFS-29538) and "Ball-Pass Cage-Modulation Detector" (MFS-29539). Synthesizer includes preset counter, output of which controls signal for ball-pass filter. Input to this preset counter updated every 2 microseconds: responds almost immediately, effectively eliminating relatively long response time (lock-in time) and phase jitter.

Analysis of signal to noise enhancement using a highly selective modulation tracking filter

Experiments are reported which utilize photodielectric effects in semiconductor loaded superconducting resonant circuits for suppressing noise in RF communication systems. The superconducting tunable cavity acts as a narrow band tracking filter for detecting conventional RF signals. Analytical techniques were developed which lead to prediction of signal-to-noise improvements. Progress is reported in optimization of the experimental variables. These include improved Q, new semiconductors, improved optics, and simplification of the electronics. Information bearing signals were passed through the system, and noise was introduced into the computer model.

System design, modelling, and tracking filter for bearings only analog camera

In this paper, each subsystem of the Celestial Sensor is discussed with emphasis given to the filtering algorithms. The celestial sensor software processes sequential frame based bearing measurements on a peripheral CPY specifically designed for this application. A frame preprocessor is used to normalize each bearing measurement and apply a number of accept/reject rules. The accepted set of measurements is then passed to an Extended Kalman Filter (EKP) that is tuned to track the motion of the robot within the room.

An Implementation of a Tracking Filter

For Goddard's new Matlab-based data analysis system, a Hilbert transform is used to generate a quadrature signal directly from the COLA signal. This differs from the usual practice of synthesizing the sine and cosine components after determining the sweep characteristics from the COLA signal. The original and quadrature signals are in turn mixed with the signal to be analyzed and then filtered to determine the frequency spectrum. This new technique appears to be more accurate in determining frequency and is insensitive to variations in COLA amplitude.

Tracking Comb Filter Suppresses Welder Harmonics

Tracking comb filter includes charge-coupled-device delay line and phase-locked loop. Filter removes harmonics of frequency of repetition of welding-current pulses from acoustic-emission signal. Spurious signals reduced almost to fundamental limit.

Frequency-Tracking-Error Detector

Frequency-tracking-error detector compares average period of output signal from band-pass tracking filter with average period of signal of frequency 100 f(sub 0) that controls center frequency f(sub 0) of tracking filter. Measures difference between f(sub 0) and frequency of one of periodic components in output of bearing sensor. Bearing sensor is accelerometer, strain gauge, or deflectometer mounted on bearing housing. Detector part of system of electronic equipment used to measure vibrations in bearings in rotating machinery.

An analog technique for the measurement of damping from transient decay signals

A tracking filter that includes an output that is logarithmically proportional to the amplitude of the filtered signal is used to measure the damping exponent of a transient decay. This method is analogous to the digital technique referred to as the moving-block or peak-plot method. The method is simple to use and quite accurate, avoids the numerical computations associated with similar digital techniques, but is constrained by the poor time-domain response characteristics of commercial tracking filters presently available.

Radar range data signal enhancement tracker

The design, fabrication, and performance characteristics are described of two digital data signal enhancement filters which are capable of being inserted between the Space Shuttle Navigation Sensor outputs and the guidance computer. Commonality of interfaces has been stressed so that the filters may be evaluated through operation with simulated sensors or with actual prototype sensor hardware. The filters will provide both a smoothed range and range rate output. Different conceptual approaches are utilized for each filter. The first filter is based on a combination low pass nonrecursive filter and a cascaded simple average smoother for range and range rate, respectively. Filter number two is a tracking filter which is capable of following transient data of the type encountered during burn periods. A test simulator was also designed which generates typical shuttle navigation sensor data.
