Circumnavigating collinear superspace

In this paper, we extend the collinear superspace formalism to include the full range of N = 1 supersymmetric interactions. Building on the effective field theory rules developed in a companion paper — Navigating Collinear Superspace — we construct collinear superspace Lagrangians for theories with non-trivial F- and D-term auxiliary fields. For (massless) Wess-Zumino models, the key ingredient is a novel type of Grassmann-valued supermultiplet whose lowest component is a (non-propagating) fermionic degree of freedom. For gauge theories coupled to charged chiral matter, the key ingredient is a novel type of vector superfield whose lowest component is a non-propagating gauge potential. This unique vector superfield is used to construct a gauge-covariant derivative; while such an object does not appear in the standard full superspace formalism, it is crucial for modeling gauge interactions when the theory is expres sed on a collinear slice. This brings us full circle, by showing that all types of N = 1 theories in four dimensions can beconstructed in collinear superspace from purely infrared considerations. We speculate that supersymmetric theories with N > 1 could also be implemented using similar collinear superspace constructions.

Navigating collinear superspace

We introduce a new set of effective field theory rules for constructing Lagrangians with \( \mathcal{N} \) = 1 supersymmetry in collinear superspace. In the standard superspace treatment, superfields are functions of the coordinates \( \left({x}^{\mu },{\theta}^{\alpha },{\theta}^{\dagger \overset{\cdot }{\alpha }}\right) \) , and supersymmetry preservation is manifest at the Lagrangian level in part due to the inclusion of auxiliary F - and D -term components. By contrast, collinear superspace depends on a smaller set of coordinates ( x μ , η , η † ), where η is a complex Grassmann number without a spinor index. This provides a formulation of supersymmetric theories that depends exclusively on propagating degrees of freedom, at the expense of obscuring Lorentz invariance and introducing inverse momentum scales. After establishing the general framework, we construct collinear superspace Lagrangians for free chiral matter and non-Abelian gauge fields. For the latter construction, an important ingredient is a superfield representation that is simultaneously chiral, anti-chiral, and real; this novel object encodes residual gauge transformations on the light cone. Additionally, we discuss a fundamental obstruction to constructing inter- acting theories with chiral matter; overcoming these issues is the subject of our companion paper, where we introduce a larger set of superfields to realize the full range of interactions compatible with \( \mathcal{N} \) = 1. Along the way, we provide a novel framing of reparametrization invariance using a spinor decomposition, which provides insight into this important light-cone symmetry.

The Squeezing Operator and the Squeezing States of Superspace

In this paper ,the unitary squeezing operator of 'superspace' is introduced and by making this operator act on the supercoherent state, the squeezing supercoherent states are obtained, then come out the four orthonormalization eigenstates of the square of annihilation operator A of the supersymmetry harmonic oscillator, and their squeezing character is also studied.

Collective Excitations at Filling Factor 5/2: The View from Superspace

Herein, we present a microscopic theory of the neutral collective modes supported by the non-Abelian fractional quantum Hall states at filling factor 5/2. The theory is formulated in terms of the trial states describing the Girvin–MacDonald–Platzman mode and its fermionic counterpart. These modes are superpartners of each other in a concrete sense, which we elucidate.

Generalized dualities and supergroups

Abstract Using a recently developed formulation of double field theory in superspace, the graviton,B-field, gravitini, dilatini, and Ramond-Ramond bispinor are encoded in a single generalized supervielbein. Duality transformations are encoded as orthosymplectic transformations, extending the bosonic O(D,D) duality group, and these act on all constituents of the supervielbein in an easily computable way. We first review conventional non-abelian T-duality in the Green-Schwarz superstring and describe the dual geometries in the language of double superspace. Since dualities are related to super-Killing vectors, this includes as special cases both abelian and non-abelian fermionic T-duality. We then extend this approach to include Poisson-Lie T-duality and its generalizations, including the generalized coset construction recently discussed in [arXiv:1912.11036]. As an application, we construct the supergeometries associated with the integrableλandηdeformations of the AdS 5 × S 5 superstring. The deformation parametersλandηare identified with the possible one-parameter embeddings of the supergravity frame within the doubled supergeometry. In this framework, the Ramond-Ramond bispinors are directly computable purely from the algebraic data of the supergroup.

Rotating cosmologies: classical and quantum

Here, we revisit spatially flat, anisotropic cosmologies within the framework of mini-superspace. Putting special emphasis on the symmetries of the mini-superspace action and on the associated conservation laws, we unveil a new class of rotating cosmologies driven by solid matter. Their rotating is physical, in that it is characterized in an invariant way in terms of a conserved angular momentum. Along the way, we confirm the results of Bartolo et al. regarding the slow decay of anisotropies for solid inflation. We then use our minisuperspace approach as a laboratory to address certain puzzles of quantum cosmology — among these, how to characterize the spacetime symmetries of a quantum state at the level of the wavefunction of the universe. For the case of a solid driven cosmology, this question seems better defined than in more standard cases. Other questions remain unanswered, though; in particular, the general question of how to operate a minisuperspace-like truncation of degrees of freedom that is consistent at the quantum level.

Stress Tensor flows, birefringence in non-linear electrodynamics and supersymmetry

We identify the unique stress tensor deformation which preserves zero-birefringence conditions in non-linear electrodynamics, which is a 4d 4 d version of the T\overline{T} T T ¯ operator. We study the flows driven by this operator in the three Lagrangian theories without birefringence - Born-Infeld, Plebanski, and reverse Born-Infeld - all of which admit ModMax-like generalizations using a root- T\overline{T} T T ¯ -like flow that we analyse in our paper. We demonstrate one way of making this root- T\overline{T} T T ¯ -like flow manifestly supersymmetric by writing the deforming operator in \mathcal{N} = 1 𝒩 = 1 superspace and exhibit two examples of superspace flows. We present scalar analogues in d = 2 d = 2 with similar properties as these theories of electrodynamics in d = 4 d = 4 . Surprisingly, the Plebanski-type theories are fixed points of the classical T\overline{T} T T ¯ -like flows, while the Born-Infeld-type examples satisfy new flow equations driven by relevant operators constructed from the stress tensor. Finally, we prove that any theory obtained from a classical stress-tensor-squared deformation of a conformal field theory gives rise to a related “subtracted” theory for which the stress-tensor-squared operator is a constant.

$T\overline{T}$ deformations of supersymmetric quantum mechanics

We define a manifestly supersymmetric version of the $T\overline{T}$ deformation appropriate for a class of (0 + 1)-dimensional theories with $\mathcal{N}$ = 1 or $\mathcal{N}$ = 2 supersymmetry, including one presentation of the super-Schwarzian theory which is dual to JT supergravity. These deformations are written in terms of Noether currents associated with translations in superspace, so we refer to them collectively as f($\mathcal{Q}$) deformations. We provide evidence that the f($\mathcal{Q}$) deformations of $\mathcal{N}$ = 1 and $\mathcal{N}$ = 2 theories are on-shell equivalent to the dimensionally reduced supercurrent-squared deformations of 2d theories with $\mathcal{N}$ = (0, 1) and $\mathcal{N}$ = (1, 1)supersymmetry, respectively. In the $\mathcal{N}$ = 1 case, we present two forms of the f($\mathcal{Q}$) deformation which drive the same flow, and clarify their equivalence by studying the analogous equivalent deformations in the non-supersymmetric setting.

The Modulated Crystal Structure of K 2 V 3 O 8

Weak lattice distortions can tune exchange pathways and magnetic interactions in square-lattice quantum magnets. K 2 V 3 O 8 is a mixed valence (V 4+ /V 5+ ) fresnoite oxide that exhibits strong spin–lattice coupling at low temperature. Here, we combine single-crystal neutron diffraction (90 K) and laboratory X-ray diffraction (50 K) to solve the low-temperature structure as an orthorhombic (3 + 1)D incommensurately modulated phase in superspace group Cmm2(β,0,1/2)0s0 [No. 196]. What initially appeared as two independent modulation vectors, q 1 = 0.3132(6)[$110$] + 1/2c* and q 2 = 0.3132(6)[$1\bar{10}$] + 1/2c*, are more naturally described as a single one-dimensional modulation wave q = 0.626(1)a* + 1/2c* in a C-centered orthorhombic lattice, related to the parent tetragonal cell by the transformation a + b, −a + b, c. Refinement with a 4-fold rotational twin inherited from the P4bm parent structure solves oxygen-dominated framework distortions and K + displacements. A de Wolff section (t = 0.40) enables a symmetry-mode decomposition, identifying three dominant mm2 (C 2v ) modes: GM3 for framework tilt, A5 for interlayer shear, and Z5 for c-axis breathing. The mode-resolved structure provides a unified, symmetry-based explanation for reported low-temperature Raman and IR anomalies and clarifies the structural origin of the spin–lattice coupling in the S = 1/2 two-dimensional quantum spin compound.

$\mathcal{N}$ = (1, 0) anomaly multiplet relations in six dimensions

We consider conformal and ’t Hooft anomalies in six-dimensional $\mathcal{N}$ = (1, 0) superconformal field theories, focusing on those conformal anomalies that determine the two- and three-point functions of conserved flavor and SU(2) R currents, as well as stress tensors. By analyzing these correlators in superspace, we explain why the number of independent conformal anomalies is reduced in supersymmetric theories. For instance, non- supersymmetric CFTs in six dimensions have three independent conformal c-anomalies, which determine the stress-tensor two- and three-point functions, but in superconformal theories the three c-anomalies are subject to a linear constraint. We also describe anomaly multiplet relations, which express the conformal anomalies of a superconformal theory in terms of its ’t Hooft anomalies. Following earlier work on the conformal a-anomaly, we argue for these relations by considering the supersymmetric dilaton effective action on the tensor branch of such a theory. We illustrate the utility of these anomaly multiplet relations by presenting exact results for conformal anomalies, and hence current and stress-tensor correlators, in several interacting examples.

Type IIB at eight derivatives: insights from Superstrings, Superfields and Superparticles

We study the non-linear structure of Type IIB eight-derivative couplings involving the metric and the complexified three-form G 3 . We show that, at the level of five-point string amplitudes, the kinematics in the maximally R-symmetry-violating sector is fully matched by standard superspace integrals and by superparticle amplitudes in M-theory on a two-torus. The latter approach is used to determine the complete effective action in this sector and to verify its invariance under SL(2, Z) duality. We further comment on the general structure of the higher-point kinematics. Compactifications to lower dimensions provide both tests for our results and the arena for their applications. We verify that K 3 reductions are fully consistent with the constraints of six-dimensional supersymmetry, and derive the four-dimensional flux scalar potential and axion kinetic terms at order (α') 3 in Calabi-Yau threefold reductions.

Supersymmetric Massive Gravity

We initiate a systematic study of the self-interactions of a massive spin-2 “graviton” consistent with up to N = 4 supersymmetry. Using a recently developed massive on-shell superspace formalism, we construct the most general set of cubic massive graviton amplitudes in a form with all supersymmetry and Lorentz invariance manifest. We find that for N ≥ 3 supersymmetry, the family of consistent interactions coincide with those of the ghost-free dRGT model. For N = 4 (maximal) supersymmetry there is a single consistent cubic interaction which coincides with the unique structure required for the absence of asymptotic superluminality. Additionally, we discuss the structure of interactions in the high-energy limit, connections to supersymmetric Galileons and the possibility of a supersymmetric massive double copy.

BRST symmetry and the convolutional double copy

Motivated by the results of Anastasiou et al., we consider the convolutional double copy for BRST and anti-BRST covariant formulations of gravitational and gauge theories in more detail. We give a general BRST and anti-BRST invariant formulation of linearised $\mathcal{N}$ = 0 supergravity using superspace methods and show how this may be obtained from the square of linearised Yang-Mills theories. We demonstrate this relation for the Schwarzschild black hole and the ten-dimensional black string solution as two concrete examples.

Classical dynamics of vortex solitons from perturbative scattering amplitudes

Abstract We introduce a novel point-particle effective description of ANO vortex solitons in the critical Abelian Higgs Model (AHM) ind= 2 + 1 based on the small winding expansion. Identifying the effective vortices with the elementary quanta of a complex scalar field, relativistic vortex-vortex scattering amplitudes are calculated as a diagrammatic, perturbative expansion in the winding numberN. Making use of powerful techniques recently developed for analyzing the post-Minkowskian two-body problem in general relativity, we efficiently extract the contribution to the loop integrals from the classical potential region, with the resulting velocity expansion subsequently resummed to all orders. The main result of this paper is an analytic expression for the classical, vortex-vortex potential at$$ \mathcal{O} $$ O (N 2 ), or one-loop, with exact velocity dependence. By truncating the resulting effective Hamiltonian at$$ \mathcal{O} $$ O (p 2 ) we derive an analytic, perturbative expression for the metric on the 2-vortex moduli space. Finally, the emergence of the critical AHM from the classical limit of the$$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 2 supersymmetric AHM, and the resulting constraints on the point-particle EFT is described in detail using an on-shell superspace construction for BPS states ind= 2 + 1.

Quasi-Two-Dimensional Heterostructures (K M 1 – x Te)(LaTe 3 ) ( M = Mn and Zn) with Charge Density Waves

Layered heterostructure materials with two different functional building blocks can teach us about emergent physical properties and phenomena arising from interactions between the layers. Here, we report intergrowth compounds KLaM 1 - x Te 4 (M = Mn and Zn; $x \approx$ 0.35) featuring two chemically distinct alternating layers [LaTe 3 ] and [KM 1 - x Te]. Their crystal structures are incommensurate, determined by single X-ray diffraction for the Mn compound and a transmission electron microscope study for the Zn compound. KLaMn 1 – x Te 4 crystallizes in the orthorhombic superspace group Pmnm(01/2 gamma)s00 with lattice parameters a = 4.4815(3) Å, b = 21.6649(16) Å, and c = 4.5220(3) Å. It exhibits charge density wave order at room temperature with a modulation wave vector q = 1/2b* + 0.3478c* originating from electronic instability of Te-square nets in [LaTe 3 ] layers. The Mn analog exhibits a cluster spin glass behavior with spin freezing temperature $T_f \approx$ 5 K attributed to disordered Mn vacancies and competing magnetic interactions in the [Mn 1 - x Te] layers. The Zn analog also has charge density wave order at room temperature with a similar q-vector having the c* component similar to 0.346 confirmed by selected-area electron diffraction. Electron transfer from [KM 1 - x Te] to [LaTe 3 ] layers exists in KLaM 1 – x Te 4 , leading to an enhanced electronic specific heat coefficient. The resistivities of KLaM 1 - x Te 4 (M = Mn and Zn) exhibit metallic behavior at high temperatures and an upturn at low temperatures, suggesting partial localization of carriers in the [LaTe 3 ] layers with some degree of disorder associated with the M atom vacancies in the [M 1 - x Te] layers.

2D Homologous Series SrFM n BiS n +2 (M = Pb, Ag 0.5 Bi 0.5 ; n = 0, 1) and Commensurately Modulated Sr 2 F 2 Bi 2/3 S 2

In this work, we report three new mixed-anion two-dimensional (2D) compounds: SrFPbBiS 3 , SrFAg 0.5 Bi 1.5 S 3 , and Sr 2 F 2 Bi 2/3 S 2 . Their structures as well as the parent compound SrFBiS 2 were refined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction data, with the sequence of SrFBiS 2 , SrFPbBiS 3 , and SrFAg 0.5 Bi 1.5 S 3 defining the new homologous series SrFM n BiS n+2 (M = Pb, Ag 0.5 Bi 0.5 ; n= 0, 1). Sr 2 F 2 Bi 2/3 S 2 has a different structure, which is modulated with a q vector of 1/3b* and was refined in superspace group X2/m(0 β 0)00 as well as in the 1x3x1 superstructure with space group C2/m (with similar results). Sr 2 F 2 Bi 2/3 S 2 features hexagonal layers of alternating [Sr 2 F 2 ] 2+ and [Bi 2/3 S 2 ] 2- , and the modulated structure arises from the unique ordering pattern of Sr 2+ cations. SrFPbBiS 3 , SrFAg 0.5 Bi 1.5 S 3 , and Sr 2 F 2 Bi 2/3 S 2 are semiconductors with band gaps of 1.31, 1.21, and 1.85 eV, respectively. The latter compound exhibits room temperature red photoluminescence at ~ 700 nm.

Higher Dimensionality in the Mg–Co–B System: Synthesis and Structure of Incommensurate Composite Mg 1+ε Co 4 B 4

Guided by high-temperature in situ X-ray diffraction, the discovery and synthesis of Mg 1+ε Co 4 B 4 (ε ≈ 0.272) using a MgH 2 hydride precursor is reported, along with a detailed crystal structure description and measurement of magnetic properties. The mismatch in lattice periodicities between Mg and Co–B substructures places Mg 1+ε Co 4 B 4 in the family of incommensurate composite crystals and prompted structural refinement in a (3 + 1)-dimensional model. The structure of Mg 1+ε Co 4 B 4 (P4 2 /ncm(00γ)s00s, a = 6.75847(7) Å, c = 3.94007(8) Å, q = (0, 0, 1.2721(3))) was refined from neutron powder diffraction and high-resolution powder X-ray diffraction data and confirmed by scanning transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction. Mg 1+ε Co 4 B 4 is isostructural to Nd 1+ε Fe 4 B 4 and several related ternary borides with 0.07 ≤ ε ≤ 0.17, with Mg occupying the rare-earth site. Satellite reflections in the electron diffraction patterns hinted at positional modulation of the transition metal–boron substructure by Mg atoms, but this could not be refined from the neutron or X-ray diffraction data. Low-temperature magnetic measurements show no indications of long-range magnetic ordering or superconductivity down to 5 K. DFT calculations confirmed the absence of a magnetically ordered ground state and the stability of a 5:4 supercell (ε = 0.25) relative to the fully commensurate structure. Neutron diffraction and synthesis from elemental Mg demonstrated that Mg 1+ε Co 4 B 4 is not a hydrogen-stabilized phase. Mg 1+ε Co 4 B 4 represents the second compound reported in the Mg–Co–B system and the first superspace symmetry model of a Nd 1+ε Fe 4 B 4 -type incommensurate composite compound refined from powder diffraction data.

Complex magnetic order in the decorated spin-chain system Rb 2 Mn 3 ( MoO 4 ) 3 ( OH ) 2

The macroscopic magnetic properties and microscopic magnetic structure of Rb 2 Mn 3 (MoO 4 ) 3 (OH) 2 (space group Pn ma) are investigated by magnetization, heat capacity, and single-crystal neutron diffraction measurements. The compound's crystal structure contains bond-alternating [Mn 3 O 11 ] ∞ chains along the b axis, formed by isosceles triangles of Mn ions occupying two crystallographically nonequivalent sites (the Mn1 site on the base and Mn2 site on the vertex). These chains are only weakly linked to each other by nonmagnetic oxyanions. Both superconducting quantum interference device magnetometry and neutron diffraction experiments show two successive magnetic transitions as a function of temperature. On cooling, it transitions from a paramagnetic phase into an incommensurate phase below 4.5 K with a magnetic wave vector near k 1 = ( 0 , 0.46 , 0 ). An additional commensurate antiferromagnetically ordered component arises with k 2 = ( 0, 0, 0), forming a complex magnetic structure below 3.5 K with two different propagation vectors of different stars. On further cooling, the incommensurate wave vector undergoes a lock-in transition below 2.3 K. The experimental results suggest that the magnetic superspace group is Pnma. 1' (0b0) s0ss for the single- k incommensurate phase and is Pn' m a ( 0 b 0 ) 00 s for the two- k magnetic phase. We propose a simplified magnetic structure model taking into account the major ordered contributions, where the commensurate k 2 defines the ordering of the c-axis component of the Mn1 magnetic moment, while the incommensurate k 1 describes the ordering of the ab -plane components of both Mn1 and Mn2 moments into elliptical cycloids.
