A Six-Phase Space Vector PWM Technique for Wide Bandgap Device-Based Three-Level Inverters

This article presents a space vector pulsewidth modulation (SVPWM) technique for wide bandgap (WBG) device-based three-level (3L) six-phase inverters. Implementation of the SVPWM techniques for any six-phase inverter is complex for its high number of possible voltage vectors. Different six-phase load configurations are also possible depending on the angle between two consecutive phases and neutral point connections. The implementation techniques change depending on the load configuration. Moreover, a common neutral point for all six phases leads to circulating currents. Capacitor voltage balancing is also needed for 3L inverters. Capacitor voltage balancing and addressing the circulating current problem further increases the implementation complexity. In this article, a generalized SVPWM technique is proposed for the six-phase 3L inverters that is implementable using two three-phase 3L SVPWM blocks. The SVPWM technique also ensures dc bus capacitor voltage balancing and minimizes circulating current. Here, the SVPWM technique is experimentally verified using a GaN-based 3L six-phase active neutral point clamped (ANPC) inverter prototype, and the results are presented in this article.

On the Virasoro six-point identity block and chaos

We study six-point correlation functions in two dimensional conformal field theory, where the six operators are grouped in pairs with equal conformal dimension. Assuming large central charge $c$ and a sparse spectrum, the leading contribution to this correlation function is the six-point Virasoro identity block - corresponding to each distinct pair of operators fusing into the identity and its descendants. We call this the star channel. One particular term in the star channel identity block is the stress tensor $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ (global) block, for which we derive an explicit expression. In the holographic context, this object corresponds to a direct measure of nonlinear effects in pure gravity. We calculate additional terms in the star channel identity block that contribute at the same order at large $c$ as the global block using the novel theory of reparametrizations, which extends the shadow operator formalism in a natural way. We investigate these blocks' relevance to quantum chaos in the form of six-point scrambling in an out-of time ordered correlator. Interestingly, the global block does not contribute to the scrambling mode of this correlator, implying that, to leading order, six-point scrambling is insensitive to the three-point graviton coupling in the bulk dual. Finally, we compare our findings with a different OPE channel, called the comb channel, and find the same result for the chaos exponent in this decomposition.

2-Group global symmetries and anomalies in six-dimensional quantum field theories

We examine six-dimensional quantum field theories through the lens of higher-form global symmetries. Every Yang-Mills gauge theory in six dimensions, with field strength ƒ (2) , naturally gives rise to a continuous 1-form global symmetry associated with the 2-form instanton current J (2) ~ * Tr (ƒ (2) $\wedge$ ƒ (2) ). We show that suitable mixed anomalies involving the gauge field ƒ (2) and ordinary 0-form global symmetries, such as flavor or Poincaré symmetries, lead to continuous 2-group global symmetries, which allow two flavor currents or two stress tensors to fuse into the 2-form current J (2) . We discuss several features of 2-group symmetry in six dimensions, many of which parallel the four-dimensional case. The majority of six-dimensional supersymmetric conformal field theories (SCFTs) and little string theories have infrared phases with non-abelian gauge fields. We show that the mixed anomalies leading to 2-group symmetries can be present in little string theories, but that they are necessarily absent in SCFTs. This allows us to establish a previously conjectured algorithm for computing the ’t Hooft anomalies of most SCFTs from the spectrum of weakly-coupled massless particles on the tensor branch of these theories. We then apply this understanding to prove that the a -type Weyl anomaly of all SCFTs with a tensor branch must be positive, a > 0.

Efficient six-dimensional phase space reconstructions from experimental measurements using generative machine learning

Next-generation accelerator concepts, which hinge on the precise shaping of beam distributions, demand equally precise diagnostic methods capable of reconstructing beam distributions within six-dimensional position-momentum spaces. However, the characterization of intricate features within six-dimensional beam distributions using current diagnostic techniques necessitates a substantial number of measurements, using many hours of valuable beam time. Novel phase space reconstruction techniques are needed to reduce the number of measurements required to reconstruct detailed, high-dimensional beam features in order to resolve complex beam phenomena and as a feedback in precision beam shaping applications. In this study, we present a novel approach to reconstructing detailed six-dimensional phase space distributions from experimental measurements using generative machine learning and differentiable beam dynamics simulations. We demonstrate that this approach can be used to resolve six-dimensional phase space distributions from scratch, using basic beam manipulations and as few as 20 two-dimensional measurements of the beam profile. We also demonstrate an application of the reconstruction method in an experimental setting at the Argonne Wakefield Accelerator, where it is able to reconstruct the beam distribution and accurately predict previously unseen measurements 75× faster than previous methods.

Six-point functions and collisions in the black hole interior

In the eternal AdS black hole geometry, we consider two signals sent from the boundaries into the black hole interior shared between the two asymptotic regions. We compute three different out-of-time-order six-point functions to quantify various properties of the collision of these signals behind the horizons: (i) We diagnose the strength of the collision by probing the two-signal state on a late time slice with boundary operators. (ii) We quantify two-sided operator growth, which provides a dual description of the signals meeting in the black hole interior, in terms of the quantum butterfly effect and quantum circuits. (iii) We consider an explicit coupling between the left and right CFTs to make the wormhole traversable and extract information about the collision product from behind the horizon. At a technical level, our results rely on the method of eikonal resummation to obtain the relevant gravitational contributions to Lorentzian six-point functions at all orders in the GN-expansion. We observe that such correlation functions display an intriguing factorization property. We corroborate these results with geodesic computations of six-point functions in two- and three-dimensional gravity.

Evidence for Topological Protection Derived from Six-Flux Composite Fermions

The composite fermion theory opened a new chapter in understanding many-body correlations through the formation of emergent particles. The formation of two-flux and four-flux composite fermions is well established. While there are limited data linked to the formation of six-flux composite fermions, topological protection associated with them is conspicuously lacking. Here we report evidence for the formation of a quantized and gapped fractional quantum Hall state at the filling factor ν = 9/11, which we associate with the formation of six-flux composite fermions. Our result provides evidence for the most intricate composite fermion with six fluxes and expands the already diverse family of highly correlated topological phases with a new member that cannot be characterized by correlations present in other known members. Our observations pave the way towards the study of higher order correlations in the fractional quantum Hall regime.

A Voltage Injection-Based Current Harmonics Suppression Strategy for Six-Phase PMSM With Nonsinusoidal Back EMF

This article presents a voltage injection-based current harmonic minimization method for wide bandgap device-based six-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) drives. The presence of low-order harmonics is common in the back EMF of PMSMs with low slot and high pole numbers. The back EMF harmonics generate low-order harmonic currents that increase torque ripples. Furthermore, zero-sequence current (ZSC) is also observed if all six phases are connected to a common neutral point. ZSC does not affect the torque ripple but reduces the system efficiency. A special technique is required to reduce ZSC for variable speed drives as direct ac component to synchronous reference frame (SRF) dc transformation is not possible for ZSC. In this article, a voltage injection-based current harmonics reduction method is proposed. The injected harmonic voltage coefficients are calculated from the harmonic estimations of back EMF and updated using closed-loop harmonic compensators to improve steady-state performance. For ZSC reduction, third harmonics power controller, and for 6n ± 1 (n = 1, 2,...) order harmonic current reduction, SRF current controllers are presented in this article. Furthermore, the current harmonics minimization method is experimentally verified using a GaN-based three-level active neutral point clamped inverter-driven six-phase PMSM.

Dynamic Analysis of a Six-Cable Parallel Robot for Automated Panelized Building Retrofits

Cable-Driven Parallel Robots (CDPRs) are highly suitable for automated panelized building retrofits, thanks to their compact footprint and high payload-to-weight ratio. A common CDPR configuration featuring eight cables, where the anchors form a rectangular prism in front of the building facade, offers a large wrench feasible workspace and good control versatility. However, installing upper anchor points requires additional support structures, such as towers or beams, increasing setup complexity and posing logistical challenges in construction settings. To mitigate these challenges, we propose a six-cable CDPR model specifically designed for automated panelized building retrofits. Although the feasible workspace is limited, our analysis shows that the proposed CDPR adequately covers the critical areas required for panel installation. To validate that the six-cable system can effectively transport the end effector to the desired installation pose, we calculated optimal trajectories based on a constrained dynamic model. The simulation results of the six-cable CDPR demonstrate promising potential for automated panelized building retrofits, effectively balancing simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and functionality.

Six degrees of freedom compliant flexure and autonomous assembly using same

A flexure having six degrees of freedom is disclosed. The constraint and compliance of the flexure in all six degrees of freedom may be independently tuned for an application. The flexure may include various combinations of sections including, for example, straight arm and curvilinear sections. The constraint and compliance of the flexure is determined by the geometry, cross-sectional area, cross-sectional shape, and material used to form the various sections. A coupling mechanism and a corresponding method for using the coupling mechanism for automated or autonomous assembly of elements using tuned flexures is disclosed. The automated or autonomous assembly of elements employs a coupling mechanism having a motor driven grip and a coupler, in which the coupler includes a six degrees of freedom flexure. The motor driven grip and coupler may optionally include electrical or optical interconnections and self-aligning features.

$\mathcal{N}$ = (1, 0) anomaly multiplet relations in six dimensions

We consider conformal and ’t Hooft anomalies in six-dimensional $\mathcal{N}$ = (1, 0) superconformal field theories, focusing on those conformal anomalies that determine the two- and three-point functions of conserved flavor and SU(2) R currents, as well as stress tensors. By analyzing these correlators in superspace, we explain why the number of independent conformal anomalies is reduced in supersymmetric theories. For instance, non- supersymmetric CFTs in six dimensions have three independent conformal c-anomalies, which determine the stress-tensor two- and three-point functions, but in superconformal theories the three c-anomalies are subject to a linear constraint. We also describe anomaly multiplet relations, which express the conformal anomalies of a superconformal theory in terms of its ’t Hooft anomalies. Following earlier work on the conformal a-anomaly, we argue for these relations by considering the supersymmetric dilaton effective action on the tensor branch of such a theory. We illustrate the utility of these anomaly multiplet relations by presenting exact results for conformal anomalies, and hence current and stress-tensor correlators, in several interacting examples.

A Six-Membered Concerted Mechanism for CO 2 Capture by Amines Studied under Charged Microdroplet Reaction Conditions

Carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) capture and storage represents an important technological challenge. A mechanistic understanding of interactions involved in the capture process is necessary not only for technological development but also for efficient conversion of captured CO 2 into value-added materials. Herein, we present a novel contained secondary electrospray ionization platform for studying the interactions of gaseous amines and CO 2 gas under microdroplet reaction conditions, which enables mass spectrometry (MS) characterization of CO 2 capture products and intermediates in real time. We detected [2 M + CO 2 + H] + species, which corresponds to a six-membered intermediate. DFT calculations confirmed the high stability of the protonated six-membered ring intermediate. This finding provides a plausible concerted mechanism in the microdroplet environment that excludes the involvement of thermodynamically disfavored ionic species. The carbamic acid counterpart of the final product/salt was readily characterized by tandem MS. The carbamic acid/amine salt was also isolated and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. By virtue of the fact that headspace vapors of amines are sampled, we were able to establish a high-throughput platform that enabled the CO 2 capture capacity of five different amines to be studied in under 2 min. The same device also enabled the absolute quantification of capture capacity.

Hyperfusogenic Mutations Destabilize the Postfusion Six-Helix Bundle of the Measles Virus Fusion Glycoprotein

Fusion of the host membrane and viral envelope by class I viral fusion proteins is driven by the assembly of a postfusion six-helix bundle formed through antiparallel interactions between N-terminal (HR1) and C-terminal (HR2) heptad-repeat regions. Although mutations in these regions of the measles virus (MeV) fusion (F) glycoprotein are known to promote neuropathogenic and hyperfusogenic phenotypes, their effects on postfusion core stability have not been systematically examined. Here, we combine peptide biophysics and X-ray crystallography to interrogate how mutations within the HR2 domain, present in native neuropathogenic MeV isolates (e.g., L454W and N462K) and laboratory-generated hyperfusogenic variants (e.g., L454M and T461A), influence postfusion 6HB assembly. Circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy reveals that, with few exceptions, these mutations decrease postfusion core stability, despite their association with enhanced fusion activity. We also report the first crystal structure of the wild-type MeV postfusion core as well as structures of six hyperfusogenic variants, enabling high-resolution comparison of the molecular basis of destabilization. Structural analysis shows that these effects arise from localized perturbations to steric packing, hydrogen bonding networks, and helix-stabilizing interactions within HR2, while the overall 6HB architecture remains conserved. Together, these results indicate that hyperfusogenic mutations are not associated with stabilization of the postfusion state and are instead consistent with models in which hyperfusogenicity arises from a reduction in the energetic barrier to fusion, potentially through effects on prefusion stability or triggering efficiency. These findings establish key sequence-structure–stability relationships governing coiled-coil assembly and provide a framework for the design of HR1- and HR2-based fusion inhibitors.

Coupling of Tree Growth and Photosynthetic Carbon Uptake Across Six North American Forests

Linking biometric measurements of stand-level biomass growth to tower-based measurements of carbon uptake—gross primary productivity and net ecosystem productivity—has been the focus of numerous ecosystem-level studies aimed to better understand the factors regulating carbon allocation to slow-turnover wood biomass pools. However, few of these studies have investigated the importance of previous year uptake to growth. We tested the relationship between wood biomass increment (WBI) and different temporal periods of carbon uptake from the current and previous years to investigate the potential lagged allocation of fixed carbon to growth among six mature, temperate forests. We found WBI was strongly correlated to carbon uptake across space (i.e., long-term averages at the different sites) but on annual timescales, WBI was much less related to carbon uptake, suggesting a temporal mismatch between C fixation and allocation to biomass. We detected lags in allocation of the previous year's carbon uptake to WBI at three of the six sites. Sites with higher annual WBI had overall stronger correlations to carbon uptake, with the strongest correlations to carbon uptake from the previous year. Only one site had WBI with strong positive relationships to current year uptake and not the previous year. Forests with low rates of WBI demonstrated weak correlations to carbon uptake from the previous year and stronger relationships to current year climate conditions. Our work shows an important, but not universal, role of lagged allocation of the previous year's carbon uptake to growth in temperate forests.

Synthetic hybrids of six yeast species

Abstract Allopolyploidy generates diversity by increasing the number of copies and sources of chromosomes. Many of the best-known evolutionary radiations, crops, and industrial organisms are ancient or recent allopolyploids. Allopolyploidy promotes differentiation and facilitates adaptation to new environments, but the tools to test its limits are lacking. Here we develop an iterative method of Hybrid Production (iHyPr) to combine the genomes of multiple budding yeast species, generating Saccharomyces allopolyploids of at least six species. When making synthetic hybrids, chromosomal instability and cell size increase dramatically as additional copies of the genome are added. The six-species hybrids initially grow slowly, but they rapidly regain fitness and adapt, even as they retain traits from multiple species. These new synthetic yeast hybrids and the iHyPr method have potential applications for the study of polyploidy, genome stability, chromosome segregation, and bioenergy.

Six-junction III–V solar cells with 47.1% conversion efficiency under 143 Suns concentration

Single-junction flat-plate terrestrial solar cells are fundamentally limited to about 30% solar-to-electricity conversion efficiency, but multiple junctions and concentrated light make much higher efficiencies practically achievable. Until now, four-junction III–V concentrator solar cells have demonstrated the highest solar conversion efficiencies. Here, we demonstrate 47.1% solar conversion efficiency using a monolithic, series-connected, six-junction inverted metamorphic structure operated under the direct spectrum at 143 Suns concentration. Furthermore, when tuned to the global spectrum, a variation of this structure achieves a 1-Sun global efficiency of 39.2%. Nearly optimal bandgaps for six junctions were fabricated using alloys of III–V semiconductors. To develop these junctions, it was necessary to minimize threading dislocations in lattice-mismatched III–V alloys, prevent phase segregation in metastable quaternary III–V alloys and understand dopant diffusion in complex structures. Further reduction of the series resistance within this structure could realistically enable efficiencies over 50%.

Magnetic structures and excitations in sawtooth olivine chalcogenides Mn 2 SiX 4 (X = S, Se)

The Mn lattice in olivine chalcogenide Mn 2 SiX 4 (X = S, Se) compounds forms a sawtooth, which is of special interest in magnetism owing to the possibility of realizing flat bands in magnon spectra, a key component in magnonics. In this work, we investigate the Mn 2 SiX 4 olivines using magnetic susceptibility, and X-ray and neutron diffraction. We have determined the average and local crystal structures of Mn 2 SiS 4 and Mn 2 SiSe 4 using synchrotron X-ray, neutron diffraction, and X-ray total scattering data followed by Rietveld and pair distribution function analyses. It is found from the pair distribution function analysis that the Mn triangle that constitutes the sawtooth is isosceles in Mn 2 SiS 4 and Mn 2 SiSe 4 . The temperature evolution of magnetic susceptibility of Mn 2 SiS 4 and Mn 2 SiSe 4 shows anomalies below 83 K and 70 K, respectively, associated with magnetic ordering. From the neutron powder diffraction measurements the magnetic space groups of Mn 2 SiS 4 and Mn 2 SiSe 4 are found to be Pnma and Pnm'a', respectively. Here, we find that the Mn spins adopt a ferromagnetic alignment on the sawtooth in both Mn 2 SiS 4 and Mn 2 SiSe 4 but along different crystallographic directions for the S and the Se compounds. From the temperature evolution of Mn magnetic moments obtained from refining neutron diffraction data, the transition temperatures are accurately determined as T N (S) = 83(2) K and T N (Se) = 70.0(5) K. Broad diffuse magnetic peaks are observed in both the compounds, and are prominently seen close to T N , suggesting the presence of a short-range magnetic order. The magnetic excitations studied using inelastic neutron scattering reveal a magnon excitation with an energy corresponding to approximately 4.5 meV in both S and Se compounds. Spin correlations are observed to persist up to 125 K much above the ordering temperature and we suggest the possibility of short-range spin correlations responsible for this.

Large binocular telescope observations of new six compact star-forming galaxies with [Ne v ] λ3426 Å emission

ABSTRACT We report the discovery of [Ne v] λ3426 emission, in addition to He ii λ4686 emission, in six compact star-forming galaxies. These observations considerably increase the sample of eight such galaxies discovered earlier by our group. For four of the new galaxies, the optical observations are supplemented by near-infrared spectra. All galaxies, but one, have H ii regions that are dense, with electron number densities of ∼ 300–700 cm−3. They are all characterized by high H β equivalent widths EW(H β) ∼ 190–520 Å and high O32 = [O iii] λ5007/[O ii] λ3727 ratios of 10–30, indicating young starburst ages and the presence of high ionization radiation. All are low-metallicity objects with 12 + logO/H = 7.46–7.88. The spectra of all galaxies show a low-intensity broad component of the H α line and five of six objects show Wolf–Rayet features. Comparison with photoionization models shows that pure stellar ionization radiation from massive stars is not hard enough to produce such strong [Ne v] and He ii emission in our galaxies. The [Ne v] λ3426/He ii λ4686 flux ratio of ∼1.2 in J1222+3602 is consistent with some contribution of active galactic nucleus ionizing radiation. However, in the remaining five galaxies, this ratio is considerably lower, $\lesssim$ 0.4. The most plausible models are likely to be non-uniform in density, where He ii and [Ne v] lines are emitted in low-density channels made by outflows and illuminated by harder ionizing radiation from radiative shocks propagating through these channels, whereas [O iii] emission originates in denser regions exposed to softer stellar ionizing sources.
