Self-sealing closure enables access to several fluid containers

Self-sealing closure enables small amounts of specific biochemical solutions to be withdrawn from or added to containers in inaccessible or small spaces. It uses a self-sealing septum of a silicone elastomer through which a hypodermic needle can be inserted.

Quick attach and release fluid coupling assembly is self-aligning, self-sealing

Fluid coupling assembly that is self-aligning, self-sealing and contains a bellow ball and socket coupling for quick attach and release is highly reliable and can handle cryogenic fluids where icing is encountered. The fluid coupling assembly is used in many fluid systems but is particularly applicable to cryogenic systems.

Self-Sealing Cryogenic Fitting

Self-sealing fitting for cryogenic tubes remains free of leakage from room temperature to liquid-helium temperature even at internal pressure as high as 2.7 MPa. Fitting comprises parts made of materials with different coefficients of thermal expansion to prevent leakage gaps from forming as temperature decreases. Consists of coupling nut, two flared tube ends, and flared O-ring spacer. Spacer contracts more than tube ends do as temperature decreases. This greater contraction seals tube ends more tightly, preventing leakage.

Contracting/expanding self-sealing cryogenic tube seals

Contracting/expanding self-sealing cryogenic tube seals are disclosed which use the different properties of thermal contraction and expansion of selected dissimilar materials in accord with certain design criteria to yield self-tightening seals via sloped-surface sealing. The seals of the subject invention are reusable, simple to assemble, and adaptable to a wide variety of cryogenic applications.

Self-sealing, easily purged quick-disconnect hose coupling

Coupling for pressurized hoses handles gas or liquid, is easily purged, and automatically seals the hose when disconnected. Volatile or toxic materials can be isolated before the connection is broken. This device may interest food processors and manufacturers of fluid delivery systems.

A simple self-sealing plug

Inexpensive self-expanding plug makes convenient low-pressure seal. Simple elastomeric plug seals round ports and holes better than regular cork. Plug is inserted with plastic tool that squeezes it to diameter smaller than port opening. Once tool is removed, plug self-expands to its original shape, exerting stronger pressure to sealed surface than cork. Plug is less expensive to make than screw-on or cam-expanded seals.

Two hundred passage three-way valve: Fraction collector

This paper describes the design and operation of a fraction collector used to direct flow of separated biological materials from 197 capillary tubes to either a collection tray or to a waste tank. This mechanism uses a 28-volt dc gear motor driving twin cams to force 197 needles through a self-sealing silicone rubber septum, where they inject the material in 197 separate pockets in a collection tray. The position of the collector tray is sensed by two optical limit switches. The time sequences are controlled automatically by an electronics control monitoring module.
