Materials Data on ScI2 by Materials Project
ScI2 is beta Vanadium nitride-like structured and crystallizes in the tetragonal P4_2/mnm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Sc2+ is bonded to six equivalent I1- atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing ScI6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 44°. There are four shorter (2.95 Å) and two longer (3.00 Å) Sc–I bond lengths. I1- is bonded in a distorted T-shaped geometry to three equivalent Sc2+ atoms.
