Thermal resistance measurement technique development for transistors
This tech note exhibits AC resistance measurement system of the Skew Quadrupole magnet with and without a beam pipe used in the AGS ring. The measurement results are compared with a system that uses skew quad power supply for the magnet. An introduction to ac resistance conceptualization and modeling is presented. It is followed by measurement methodology used and the results.
To date, very little is understood about electrotransport in thin films. One reason for this is the lack of methods in which electromigration can be adequately monitored dynamically. In this thesis, a new nondestructive method for the study of the electrotransport phenomenon in thin aluminum films is presented. This method makes use of electrical resistance measurements of various regions along the test sample to monitor changes in resistance resulting from electromigration. The advantage of this method is that resistance changes can be observed long before void formation can be seen using standard microscopy methods. In order to achieve the best efficiency using this method, special consideration must be given to the design of the sample. Design problems and their respective solutions are given. The results of the electrical resistance measurements are interpreted by means of photographs taken with an scanning electron microscope. The increase in resistance of the aluminum samples is interpreted to be due to void formation. The expected decrease in resistance near the anode was never observed. It is shown that mass accumulation takes on the form of hillocks and whiskers on the surface of the aluminum film, which does not contribute appreciably to conductivity.

Contact resistance measurements used in contaminant removal and metallic adhesion on iron surfaces
A method is described for measuring the conductivity of materials without having to make electrical contact with the material. Currents which are magnetically induced in the conducting sample are measured by means of the magnetic fields they produce. Although induction techniques have been used in the past for this type of measurement, the configuration presented here makes it possible to perform absolute measurements of resistivity over a wide range of values for relatively small samples. The theory of the technique, the results of measurements made with it, and a comparison of the technique with other methods are presented.
Report presents resistivity measurements and their interpretation for neutron-irradiated pure metals and Al-Zn alloys. The influence of temperature, the role of point defects, and the aging behavior on resistivity are considered. The experimental procedures and results are discussed in detail.

Application of the microhm measuring circuit to measurement of plated-through hole resistances, when combined with appropriate probes, provides data that can be related to the quality of copper plating on printed wiring boards. Acceptance limits can be established and continuous inspection performed, with plating defects causing abnormal readings.
For the calculation of the parasite resistance of an airplane, a knowledge of the resistance of the individual structural and accessory parts is necessary. The most reliable basis for this is given by tests with actual airplane parts at airspeeds which occur in practice. The data given here relate to the landing gear of a Siemanms-Schuckert DI airplane; the landing gear of a 'Luftfahrzeug-Gesellschaft' airplane (type Roland Dlla); landing gear of a 'Flugzeugbau Friedrichshafen' G airplane; a machine gun, and the exhaust manifold of a 269 HP engine.
One of the ongoing development challenges with ReBCO high-temperature superconducting (HTS) cables is normal zone initiation and local heating, which is associated with over-critical current flowing through and around local performance reductions in individual tapes. Although inter-tape contact resistances are well-reported for individual tapes and HTS cables, these measurements are a challenge in CORC® cables as current percolates through much of the cable. In this work, developments in tape-in-tape-out (TITO) automated individual tape powering experiments are presented, and a simplified modeling approach for current percolation in CORC® cables is developed. An optimization is formulated to fit the model parameters to a large set of TITO experiments on a single cable, allowing the layer-dependent inter-tape contact resistance to be extracted. Measurements are presented and discussed for a straight CORC® cable and a cable bent to a 152 mm and 76 mm radius. The approach provides both quantitative insight and facilitates better understanding of current sharing phenomena in HTS cables.
An attempt was made to obtain a better insight into the actual transient response of airway opening pressure (Pao) following rapid occlusion. With this knowledge it was hoped to be able to clarify the reason for the overestimations found by other investigators, and possibly to obtain a more accurate method of estimating alveolar pressure just prior to interruption. This would result in an improved method for estimating airway resistance. Use of an extrapolation method was found to provide an improved correlation between resistances determined by the interruptor technique and those found by the plethysmograph in normal subjects.
