Experiment S051: Daytime sodium cloud

Daytime wind velocity measurements of the upper atmosphere as function of altitude were supposed to be gathered by Gemini 12 sequential photography of rocket made sodium clouds. Evaluation of the film was indicative that all 26 photographs were overexposed during the photographic sequences. The overexposures were caused by a camera shutter locked in the open position. Therefore, useful photographic data were not obtained for analysis.

Rocket engine vibration accurately measured by photography

High speed instrumentation camera focused on a partially masked light bulb which is securely mounted to the test fixture permits measurement of engine performance parameters when usual electronic vibration instrumentation is unavailable. Vibration is recorded as a light trace deviating from the light rays photographed in the static hardware condition.

Solid-state wide-range low power camera timer for space applications

This paper describes a device for timing sequentially 8 film exposures of a rocket-borne camera with a time interval between each exposure to allow the camera film transport mechanism to step the film from one frame to the next after each exposure. Each exposure time can be independently adjusted from a a fraction of a second to several hundred seconds by changing the value of a timing resistor and/or capacitor. All of the rocket interface circuits have ben designed to minimize the coupling of spurious noise signals into the timer.
