Materials Data on Na8Hg3 by Materials Project

Na8Hg3 crystallizes in the trigonal R-3c space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are four inequivalent Na sites. In the first Na site, Na is bonded to four Hg atoms to form a mixture of distorted edge and corner-sharing NaHg4 tetrahedra. There are a spread of Na–Hg bond distances ranging from 3.17–3.44 Å. In the second Na site, Na is bonded in a distorted trigonal non-coplanar geometry to three Hg atoms. There are a spread of Na–Hg bond distances ranging from 3.25–3.35 Å. In the third Na site, Na is bonded to four Hg atoms to form a mixture of distorted edge and corner-sharing NaHg4 tetrahedra. There are one shorter (3.23 Å) and three longer (3.39 Å) Na–Hg bond lengths. In the fourth Na site, Na is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to four Hg atoms. There are one shorter (3.25 Å) and three longer (3.34 Å) Na–Hg bond lengths. There are three inequivalent Hg sites. In the first Hg site, Hg is bonded in a distorted q6 geometry to ten Na atoms. In the second Hg site, Hg is bonded in a body-centered cubic geometry to eight Na atoms. In the third Hg site, Hg is bonded in a distorted q6 geometry to ten Na atoms.
