Na2HPO4(H2O)2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pbca space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are two inequivalent Na1+ sites. In the first Na1+ site, Na1+ is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to six O2- atoms. There are a spread of Na–O bond distances ranging from 2.49–2.65 Å. In the second Na1+ site, Na1+ is bonded in a 2-coordinate geometry to three O2- atoms. There are a spread of Na–O bond distances ranging from 2.22–2.52 Å. P5+ is bonded in a tetrahedral geometry to four O2- atoms. There are a spread of P–O bond distances ranging from 1.54–1.61 Å. There are five inequivalent H1+ sites. In the first H1+ site, H1+ is bonded in a distorted single-bond geometry to two O2- atoms. There is one shorter (1.01 Å) and one longer (1.67 Å) H–O bond length.
