Simulator model specification for the augmentor wing jet STOL research aircraft

The configuration and simulation studies of a C-8A (De Havilland Buffalo) aircraft are described. The modifications to STOL configuration consisted of augmentor-wing jet flaps, blown and drooped ailerons, and leading edge slats. The total simulator model includes a number of component parts for producing realistic visual, aural, tactile, vestibular, and kinesthetic cues for the pilot to assess the predicted behavior of the real airplane.

Investigation in the Langley Free-Flight Tunnel of the Low-Speed Stability and Control Characteristics of a 1/10-Scale Model Simulating the Convair F-102A Airplane

An investigation of the low-speed, power-off stability and control characteristics of a 1/10-scale model simulating the Convair F-102A airplane has been made in the Langley free-flight tunnel. The model in its basic configuration and with two modifications involving leading- edge slats and an increase in vertical-tail size was flown through a lift-coefficient range from 0.7 to the stall. Only relatively low-altitude conditions were simulated. The longitudinal stability characteristics of the model were considered satisfactory for all conditions investigated. The lateral stability characteristics were considered satisfactory for the basic configuration over the lift-coefficient range investigated, except near the stall, where large values of static directional instability caused the model to be directionally divergent. An 80-percent increase in vertical-tail area increased the angle of attack at which the model became directionally divergent. The longitudinal and lateral control characteristics were generally satisfactory. Although the adverse sideslip characteristics for the model were considered acceptable over the angle-of-attack range, analysis indicates that the adverse sideslip characteristics of the airplane may be objectionable at high angles of attack.

Transonic Wind-Tunnel Investigation of the Fin Loads on a 1/8-Scale Model Simulating the First Stage of the Scout Research Vehicle

An investigation to determine the fin loads on a 1/8-scale model simulating the first stage of the Scout research vehicle was made in the Langley 8-foot transonic tunnel at Mach numbers from 0.40 to 1.20. Tests were conducted over an angle-of-attack range from about -10 to 10 deg and at a Reynolds number per foot of approximately 3.5 x 10(exp 6). Results of the tests indicate that for a given angle of attack, negative tip-control deflections caused decreases in normal-force and fin-bending-moment coefficients and increases in pitching-moment coefficient, as would be expected. The effects were slight at a model angle of attack of -10 deg where tip-control stall had probably occurred but increased with an increase in angle of attack.

Shuttle operations simulation model programmers'/users' manual

The prospective user of the shuttle operations simulation (SOS) model is given sufficient information to enable him to perform simulation studies of the space shuttle launch-to-launch operations cycle. The procedures used for modifying the SOS model to meet user requirements are described. The various control card sequences required to execute the SOS model are given. The report is written for users with varying computer simulation experience. A description of the components of the SOS model is included that presents both an explanation of the logic involved in the simulation of the shuttle operations cycle and a description of the routines used to support the actual simulation.

The MSFC UNIVAC 1108 EXEC 8 simulation model

A model is presented which simulates the MSFC Univac 1108 multiprocessor system. The hardware/operating system is described to enable a good statistical measurement of the system behavior. The performance of the 1108 is evaluated by performing twenty-four different experiments designed to locate system bottlenecks and also to test the sensitivity of system throughput with respect to perturbation of the various Exec 8 scheduling algorithms. The model is implemented in the general purpose system simulation language and the techniques described can be used to assist in the design, development, and evaluation of multiprocessor systems.

Computer system simulation and analysis

A simulation model has been developed as a tool for studying different computer system configurations. The model simulates a computer system in terms of the number and speed of hardware subsystems and the runs processed by the system in terms of equivalent adds for computation and data bits transferred for I/O. The model was written in the GPSS simulation language.
