Li1+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form LiO4 tetrahedra that share corners with four equivalent PO4 tetrahedra. There are a spread of Li–O bond distances ranging from 1.91–2.15 Å. Sn2+ is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to three O2- atoms. There are a spread of Sn–O bond distances ranging from 2.22–2.26 Å. P5+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form PO4 tetrahedra that share corners with four equivalent LiO4 tetrahedra. There are a spread of P–O bond distances ranging from 1.53–1.59 Å. There are four inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted linear geometry to one Li1+ and one P5+ atom. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to one Li1+, one Sn2+, and one P5+ atom. Li1+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form LiO4 tetrahedra that share corners with three equivalent SnO5 square pyramids, corners with two equivalent LiO4 tetrahedra, and corners with four PO4 tetrahedra. There are a spread of Li–O bond distances ranging from 2.02–2.13 Å. Sn2+ is bonded to five O2- atoms to form distorted SnO5 square pyramids that share corners with three equivalent LiO4 tetrahedra, corners with five PO4 tetrahedra, and edges with two equivalent SnO5 square pyramids. There are a spread of Sn–O bond distances ranging from 2.23–2.69 Å. There are three inequivalent P5+ sites. In the first P5+ site, P5+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form PO4 tetrahedra that share corners with three equivalent SnO5 square pyramids and corners with six equivalent LiO4 tetrahedra. There is one shorter (1.55 Å) and three longer (1.57 Å) P–O bond length. In the second P5+ site, P5+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form PO4 tetrahedra that share corners with six equivalent SnO5 square pyramids and corners with three equivalent LiO4 tetrahedra. There is one shorter (1.55 Å) and three longer (1.57 Å) P–O bond length. LiSnPO4 crystallizes in the tetragonal I-4 space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Li1+ is bonded to four equivalent O2- atoms to form LiO4 tetrahedra that share corners with four equivalent SnO4 tetrahedra and corners with four equivalent PO4 tetrahedra. All Li–O bond lengths are 2.00 Å. Sn2+ is bonded to four equivalent O2- atoms to form distorted SnO4 tetrahedra that share corners with four equivalent LiO4 tetrahedra and corners with four equivalent PO4 tetrahedra. All Sn–O bond lengths are 2.45 Å. P5+ is bonded to four equivalent O2- atoms to form PO4 tetrahedra that share corners with four equivalent LiO4 tetrahedra and corners with four equivalent SnO4 tetrahedra. All P–O bond lengths are 1.56 Å. O2- is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to one Li1+, one Sn2+, and one P5+ atom.

Li1+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form distorted LiO6 octahedra that share corners with four equivalent SnO6 pentagonal pyramids, corners with two equivalent PO4 tetrahedra, edges with two equivalent LiO6 octahedra, edges with two equivalent SnO6 pentagonal pyramids, and edges with two equivalent PO4 tetrahedra. There are a spread of Li–O bond distances ranging from 2.13–2.73 Å. Sn2+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form distorted SnO6 pentagonal pyramids that share corners with four equivalent LiO6 octahedra, corners with four equivalent SnO6 pentagonal pyramids, corners with four equivalent PO4 tetrahedra, edges with two equivalent LiO6 octahedra, and an edgeedge with one PO4 tetrahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 53–85°. There are a spread of Sn–O bond distances ranging from 2.35–2.72 Å. P5+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form PO4 tetrahedra that share corners with two equivalent LiO6 octahedra, corners with four equivalent SnO6 pentagonal pyramids, edges with two equivalent LiO6 octahedra, and an edgeedge with one SnO6 pentagonal pyramid. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 47–53°. There is one shorter (1.53 Å) and three longer (1.58 Å) P–O bond length. There are four inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to one Li1+, two equivalent Sn2+, and one P5+ atom. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to one Li1+, two equivalent Sn2+, and one P5+ atom. In the third O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to two equivalent Li1+, one Sn2+, and one P5+ atom. In the fourth O2- site, O2- is bonded to two equivalent Li1+, one Sn2+, and one P5+ atom to form distorted corner-sharing OLi2SnP trigonal pyramids.

LiSnPO4 crystallizes in the monoclinic P2_1/c space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are three inequivalent Li1+ sites. In the first Li1+ site, Li1+ is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to six O2- atoms. There are a spread of Li–O bond distances ranging from 1.97–2.76 Å. In the second Li1+ site, Li1+ is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to six O2- atoms. There are a spread of Li–O bond distances ranging from 1.96–2.67 Å. In the third Li1+ site, Li1+ is bonded in a 5-coordinate geometry to five O2- atoms. There are a spread of Li–O bond distances ranging from 1.99–2.58 Å. There are three inequivalent Sn2+ sites. In the first Sn2+ site, Sn2+ is bonded in a distorted pentagonal planar geometry to five O2- atoms. There are a spread of Sn–O bond distances ranging from 2.32–2.48 Å. Sn2+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form SnO4 tetrahedra that share corners with four equivalent LiO4 tetrahedra and corners with four equivalent PO4 tetrahedra. There are a spread of Sn–O bond distances ranging from 2.35–2.53 Å. P5+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form PO4 tetrahedra that share corners with four equivalent LiO4 tetrahedra and corners with four equivalent SnO4 tetrahedra. There are a spread of P–O bond distances ranging from 1.55–1.58 Å. There are four inequivalent O2- sites. There are a spread of Li–O bond distances ranging from 1.91–1.99 Å. There are two inequivalent Sn2+ sites. In the first Sn2+ site, Sn2+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form SnO4 tetrahedra that share corners with four LiO4 tetrahedra and corners with four PO4 tetrahedra. There are a spread of Sn–O bond distances ranging from 2.27–2.59 Å.
