Li7C120 crystallizes in the monoclinic Pm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are seven inequivalent Li sites. In the first Li site, Li is bonded in a 2-coordinate geometry to seven C atoms. There are a spread of Li–C bond distances ranging from 2.40–2.43 Å. In the second Li site, Li is bonded in a 2-coordinate geometry to seven C atoms. There are a spread of Li–C bond distances ranging from 2.38–2.44 Å. In the third Li site, Li is bonded in a 2-coordinate geometry to seven C atoms. There are a spread of Li–C bond distances ranging from 2.38–2.45 Å. In the fourth Li site, Li is bonded in a 2-coordinate geometry to seven C atoms. There are a spread of Li–C bond distances ranging from 2.39–2.43 Å. In the fifth Li site, Li is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to two equivalent C atoms. Both Li–C bond lengths are 2.36 Å. In the sixth Li site, Li is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to two equivalent C atoms. Both Li–C bond lengths are 2.37 Å. In the seventh Li site, Li is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to two equivalent C atoms. Both Li–C bond lengths are 2.42 Å. There are sixty-four inequivalent C sites. In the first C site, C is bonded in a trigonal planar geometry to three C atoms. There are a spread of C–C bond distances ranging from 1.41–1.46 Å. In the second C site, C is bonded in a trigonal planar geometry to three C atoms. There are a spread of C–C bond distances ranging from 1.41–1.46 Å. In the third C site, C is bonded in a trigonal planar geometry to three C atoms. There are a spread of C–C bond distances ranging from 1.41–1.46 Å.
