Materials Data on Hg(CN)2 by Materials Project

Hg(CN)2 is Potassium Silver Cyanide-derived structured and crystallizes in the tetragonal I-42d space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Hg2+ is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to two equivalent C2+ and four equivalent N3- atoms. Both Hg–C bond lengths are 2.05 Å. There are two shorter (2.82 Å) and two longer (3.16 Å) Hg–N bond lengths. C2+ is bonded in a linear geometry to one Hg2+ and one N3- atom. The C–N bond length is 1.17 Å. N3- is bonded in a distorted single-bond geometry to two equivalent Hg2+ and one C2+ atom.

Photoinduced frustration modulation in 𝜅-type quantum spin liquid candidates

Geometric frustration is a key parameter controlling electronic and magnetic properties of quantum spin liquid systems, yet remains challenging to tune. Here, we coherently drive molecular vibrations with midinfrared pulses in two organic quantum spin liquid candidates, the insulating 𝜅−(BEDT−TTF) 2⁢ Cu 2 ⁢(CN) 3 and the metallic 𝜅−(BEDT−TTF) 4 ⁢Hg 2.89 ⁢Br 8 , and probe their electronic response through ultrafast reflectivity measurements. We observe a nonlinear coupling between local molecular vibrations and nonlocal phonons, which is expected to directly modulate the geometric frustration of their triangular lattice. Furthermore, our findings establish a promising route to dynamically control frustration in nonbipartite quantum materials.

Materials Data on HgB2(CN)8 by Materials Project

(B)2Hg(CN)6(CN)2 crystallizes in the trigonal P-3m1 space group. The structure is zero-dimensional and consists of two boron molecules, two hydrogen cyanide molecules, and one Hg(CN)6 cluster. In the Hg(CN)6 cluster, Hg2+ is bonded in an octahedral geometry to six equivalent N3- atoms. All Hg–N bond lengths are 2.41 Å. C2+ is bonded in a single-bond geometry to one N3- atom. The C–N bond length is 1.16 Å. N3- is bonded in a distorted linear geometry to one Hg2+ and one C2+ atom.

Dramatic relativistic effects on the ns dipole angular distribution asymmetry parameter, β ns , of heavy and superheavy elements

A theoretical study of the dipole photoelectron angular distribution asymmetry parameter, β, of the 6s, 5s and 4s subshells has been conducted for a range of closed-shell heavy, Hg (Z = 80), Rn (Z = 86), Ra (Z = 88) and superheavy, No (Z = 102), Cn (Z = 112), Og (Z = 118), Ubn (Z = 120) elements to understand the deviation of β from the nonrelativistic value of 2 owing to relativistic effects. It was found that the deviation, strongest in Cooper minimum regions, persists over all energy for all ns subshells, and the deviations increase with Z. Furthermore, three levels of relativistic calculations were performed in order to pinpoint the particular interactions responsible for the details of the behavior of the ns β's as functions of energy, n, and Z and, in addition to the effects of the (relativistic) spin–orbit interaction, interchannel coupling was found to be of crucial importance in the determination of the β parameter in most of the situations studied.

Transactinide studies with sulfur macrocyclic extractant using mercury

Mercury extraction has been studied in nitric and hydrochloric acids with hexathia-18-crown-6 dissolved in carbon tetrachloride. Batch study experiments have been performed to determine the best conditions for maximum extraction. In both acids, Hg(II) was best extracted at low molarity while almost no extraction was observed above 2 M. Furthermore, speciation studies were carried out in an attempt to describe the extraction mechanism, but the exact composition of the extracted species was not determined. The extraction kinetics were studied to assess the feasibility of this crown ether for extracting Cn and/or Fl in a future online experiment.

Spinor-based coupled cluster thermochemistry: RgF and CnF 0/+ as compared to AuF and HgF 0/+

A relativistic coupled cluster approach that includes spin-orbit variationally in the eXact 2-component (X2C) approximation with the inclusion of the Gaunt interaction (X2Cg) was used to probe the thermochemistry and ground state spectroscopic constants of RgF, CnF, and CnF + . Utilizing large sequences of correlation consistent basis sets at the X2Cg-CCSD(T) level of theory, this work reports 0 K bond dissociation energies (BDEs) of AuF, RgF, HgF 0/+ , and CnF 0/+ , as well as ionization energies of Au, Rg, Hg, Cn, HgF, and CnF.
