Materials Data on GaCl2 by Materials Project
GaCl2 is Iron carbide-like structured and crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pnna space group. The structure is zero-dimensional and consists of four gallium molecules and four GaCl4 clusters. In each GaCl4 cluster, Ga2+ is bonded in a tetrahedral geometry to four Cl1- atoms. All Ga–Cl bond lengths are 2.21 Å. There are two inequivalent Cl1- sites. In the first Cl1- site, Cl1- is bonded in a single-bond geometry to one Ga2+ atom. In the second Cl1- site, Cl1- is bonded in a single-bond geometry to one Ga2+ atom.
