Materials Data on CoBr by Materials Project

CoBr crystallizes in the hexagonal P6/mmm space group. The structure is one-dimensional and consists of one CoBr ribbon oriented in the (0, 0, 1) direction. Co1+ is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent Br1- atoms. Both Co–Br bond lengths are 2.25 Å. Br1- is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent Co1+ atoms.

Magnetic field induced phases and spin Hamiltonian in Cs 2 CoBr 4

Magnetic structures and spin excitations are studied across the phase diagram of the geometrically frustrated S = 3/2 quantum antiferromagnet Cs 2 CoBr 4 in magnetic fields applied along the magnetic easy axis, using neutron diffraction, inelastic neutron scattering, and terahertz absorption spectroscopy. Here, the data are analyzed, where appropriate, using extended SU(4) linear spin wave theory. A minimal magnetic Hamiltonian is proposed based on measurements in the high-field paramagnetic state. It deviates considerably from the previously considered models. Additional dilatometry experiments highlight the importance of magnetoelastic coupling in this system.

Review of low salinity waterflooding in carbonate rocks: mechanisms, investigation techniques, and future directions

This review analyses the fundamental thermodynamic theory of the crude oil-brine-rock (COBR) interface and the underlying rock-brine and oil-brine interactions. Next, the available data are reviewed to outline potential mechanisms responsible for increased oil recovery from low salinity waterflooding (LSWF). We propose an approach to studying LSWF and identify the key missing links that are needed to explain observations at multiple length scales. The synergistic effect of LSWFon other chemical enhanced oil recovery methods such as surfactant, alkaline, nanoparticle and polymer flooding are also outlined. We specifically highlight key uncertainties that must be overcome to fully implement the technique in the field.

Access to Perfluorometallacyclopentane Complexes of Cobalt through the [(MeCN) 4 Co(C 4 F 8 )][PF 6 ] Precursor

Here, the acetonitrile ligands in [(MeCN) 4 Co(C 4 F 8 )][PF 6 ] were found to be labile toward ligand substitution reactions, allowing for the preparation of [(MeCN)(tpy)Co(C 4 F 8 )][PF 6 ], [(tpy)CoBr(C 4 F 8 )], [(bpy) 2 Co(C 4 F 8 )][PF 6 ], and [(cis-κ 2 -pym-PPh 2 ) 2 Co(C 4 F 8 )][PF 6 ] (tpy = 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, and pym-PPh 2 = diphenyl(2-pyrimidyl)phosphine). All of the aforementioned complexes have been structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction. Additionally, an improved procedure for the preparation of [(MeCN) 4 Co(C 4 F 8 )][X] (X = PF 6 or BF 4 ) is reported.

Gray matter volume drives the brain age gap in schizophrenia: a SHAP study

Neuroimaging-based brain age is a biomarker that is generated by machine learning (ML) predictions. The brain age gap (BAG) is typically defined as the difference between the predicted brain age and chronological age. Studies have consistently reported a positive BAG in individuals with schizophrenia (SCZ). However, there is little understanding of which specific factors drive the ML-based brain age predictions, leading to limited biological interpretations of the BAG. We gathered data from three publicly available databases - COBRE, MCIC, and UCLA - and an additional dataset (TOPSY) of early-stage schizophrenia (82.5% untreated first-episode sample) and calculated brain age with pre-trained gradient-boosted trees. Then, we applied SHapley Additive Explanations (SHAP) to identify which brain features influence brain age predictions. We investigated the interaction between the SHAP score for each feature and group as a function of the BAG. These analyses identified total gray matter volume (group × SHAP interaction term β = 1.71 [0.53; 3.23]; p corr < 0.03) as the feature that influences the BAG observed in SCZ among the brain features that are most predictive of brain age. Other brain features also presented differences in SHAP values between SCZ and HC, but they were not significantly associated with the BAG. We compared the findings with a non-psychotic depression dataset (CAN-BIND), where the interaction was not significant. This study has important implications for the understanding of brain age prediction models and the BAG in SCZ and, potentially, in other psychiatric disorders.

Experimental determination of the magnetic anisotropy in five-coordinated Co( II ) field-induced single molecule magnets

Magnetic anisotropy of the central metal atom is a crucial property of single molecule magnets (SMMs). Small structural changes can alter the magnetic properties, and accurate experimental methods to investigate magnetic anisotropy are therefore critical. Here, we investigate two five-coordinated Co( II ) SMMs, [CoCl 2 Cltpy] (1) and [CoBr 2 Cltpy] (2) (Cltpy = 4′-chloro-2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine), through multiple techniques. Ab initio theoretical calculations performed on the two compounds show that both possess axial magnetic anisotropy with the magnetic easy axis pointing towards one of the terminal halogen atoms. Theoretical calculations on SMMs are typically done on isolated molecular species, and to validate this approximation the magnetic anisotropy was further studied through experimental techniques. EPR measurements confirm an axial anisotropy of 1, and magnetic measurements provide experimental Zero-Field Splitting (ZFS) parameters, showing that the values from theoretical calculations are slightly overestimated. The X-ray electron density determined from 20 K single-crystal synchrotron X-ray diffraction data provides estimated d-orbital populations also suggesting axial magnetic anisotropy in both systems, and furthermore suggesting a more pronounced axiality in 1 compared to 2. This is in good agreement with the results obtained from both magnetic measurements and theoretical calculations. The magnetic anisotropy of 1 is quantified experimentally through polarized powder neutron diffraction via the site susceptibility method, confirming an axial magnetic anisotropy of the compound. A slight deviation in the easy axis direction is observed between experimental and theoretical results. This, together with the overestimation of the ZFS parameters from theoretical calculations, shows that experimental investigation of the magnetic anisotropy of SMMs is of high relevance. Magnetic anisotropy of the central metal atom is a crucial property of single molecule magnets (SMMs).
