Materials Data on Co2BO4 by Materials Project

Co2BO4 crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pnma space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are two inequivalent Co+2.50+ sites. In the first Co+2.50+ site, Co+2.50+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing CoO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 53–61°. There are a spread of Co–O bond distances ranging from 2.05–2.19 Å. In the second Co+2.50+ site, Co+2.50+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing CoO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 53–61°. There are a spread of Co–O bond distances ranging from 1.83–2.17 Å. B3+ is bonded in a trigonal planar geometry to three O2- atoms. There is one shorter (1.38 Å) and two longer (1.39 Å) B–O bond length. There are four inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted rectangular see-saw-like geometry to four Co+2.50+ atoms. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to three Co+2.50+ and one B3+ atom. In the third O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted trigonal planar geometry to two equivalent Co+2.50+ and one B3+ atom. In the fourth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 1-coordinate geometry to three Co+2.50+ and one B3+ atom.
