Materials Data on KGeCl3 by Materials Project

KGeCl3 is Sylvanite-like structured and crystallizes in the trigonal R3c space group. The structure is three-dimensional. K1+ is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to six equivalent Cl1- atoms. There are three shorter (3.22 Å) and three longer (3.41 Å) K–Cl bond lengths. Ge2+ is bonded to six equivalent Cl1- atoms to form distorted corner-sharing GeCl6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 28°. There are three shorter (2.42 Å) and three longer (3.17 Å) Ge–Cl bond lengths. Cl1- is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to two equivalent K1+ and two equivalent Ge2+ atoms.
