CdGe3 crystallizes in the hexagonal P6_3/mmc space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Cd is bonded to twelve equivalent Ge atoms to form a mixture of face and corner-sharing CdGe12 cuboctahedra. There are six shorter (3.09 Å) and six longer (3.10 Å) Cd–Ge bond lengths. Ge is bonded in a distorted see-saw-like geometry to four equivalent Cd atoms.
CdGe3 crystallizes in the tetragonal I4/mmm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Cd is bonded to twelve Ge atoms to form a mixture of corner, edge, and face-sharing CdGe12 cuboctahedra. There are four shorter (2.99 Å) and eight longer (3.15 Å) Cd–Ge bond lengths. There are two inequivalent Ge sites. In the first Ge site, Ge is bonded in a 12-coordinate geometry to four equivalent Cd and four equivalent Ge atoms. All Ge–Ge bond lengths are 2.99 Å. In the second Ge site, Ge is bonded in a square co-planar geometry to four equivalent Cd atoms.
