SrMgCd2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic Immm space group. The structure is one-dimensional and consists of two SrMgCd2 ribbons oriented in the (0, 1, 0) direction. Sr is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent Cd atoms. Both Sr–Cd bond lengths are 3.68 Å. Mg is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent Cd atoms. Both Mg–Cd bond lengths are 3.26 Å. Cd is bonded in a linear geometry to one Sr and one Mg atom.
Sr2MgCd crystallizes in the orthorhombic Immm space group. The structure is one-dimensional and consists of two Sr2MgCd ribbons oriented in the (0, 1, 0) direction. Sr is bonded in a linear geometry to one Mg and one Cd atom. The Sr–Mg bond length is 3.82 Å. The Sr–Cd bond length is 3.73 Å. Mg is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent Sr atoms. Cd is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent Sr atoms.
