Closed-circuit TV camera is mounted parallel to electrode and moves along with it. Camera is scanned along seam so seam is viewed parallel with scan lines on TV monitor. Two fiber optics illuminators are attached to guidance system; they illuminate seam for TV camera.
The Shuttle/Orbiter Program requirements relative to operational and performance parameters of the CCTV (closed circuit television) subsystem and their influence upon design considerations are presented. The anticipated use of the CCTV for rendezvous, docking, manipulator arm operation, satellite inspection and general orbiter operations is outlined to establish the performance requirements of each subsystem element. Typical physical characteristics, interface parameters, and remote-control design philosophy are briefly described.
This report presents the results of the Detail Test Object (DTO)-675 "Voice Control of the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)" system. The DTO is a follow-on flight of the Voice Command System (VCS) that flew as a secondary payload on STS-41. Several design changes were made to the VCS for the STS-78 mission. This report discusses those design changes, the data collected during the mission, recognition problems encountered, and findings.
Helicopter sling load operations have been limited during pick up and delivery of external cargo by the lack of precision achieved by the combination of pilot, helicopter, and sling load. Use of a closed circuit television as a pilot aid during sling load delivery and placement was documented along with additional cases representing procedures currently employed by military and commercial operators. Although an increase in pilot workload was noted when the television system was used, the results indicated a comparable level of performance for each test case.

Closed circuit television system for spacecraft navigation
The focus early in the Space Station Freedom Program was on identifying viewing requirements for both direct viewing (windows) and indirect viewing (closed-circuit television). Currently, an analysis is being conducted to address the feasibility of viewing for Space Station Freedom. The goal of this analysis is to determine the optimum location for the windows and closed-circuit television cameras in order to meet the established requirements. Additionally all viewing provisions must adequately support Space Station assembly and on-board operations once the Station is operable. PLAID, a three-dimensional graphics system developed at NASA/Johnson Space Center, was selected for use as the primary tool in this analysis. PLAID provides the capability to simulate the assembly of the Space Station Freedom, as well as to examine operations on the Station as it evolves. In addition, it is used as a tool to analyze general out-the-window viewing conditions for all Space Station components, and provides the ability to integrate an anthropometric scale-modeled person (representing a crewmember) with the Station's interior architecture.
Remote pilot-controlled visual docking of two space vehicles on rendezvous docking simulator with closed circuit television
Simulation and flight investigations were conducted by using a method of providing supplementary information to the pilot in conjunction with a closed-circuit-television display during a VTOL instrument final approach including deceleration and hover. The supplementary information included range, cross range, ground speed, altitude, and rate-of-climb error and was displayed on an instrument called an approach profile indicator. The display was arranged to provide both quasi-command and situation information. Pilot comments indicated that the approach-profile-indicator display concept in conjunction with the closed-circuit television resulted in a decreased pilot workload and an increase in pilot confidence. Also, the results indicated that the approach profile repeatability was significantly improved because of the ground-speed and altitude information provided on the approach profile indicator.
