Materials Data on Lu4C7 by Materials Project

Lu4C7 crystallizes in the monoclinic P2_1/c space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are two inequivalent Lu3+ sites. In the first Lu3+ site, Lu3+ is bonded to seven C+1.71- atoms to form distorted LuC7 octahedra that share corners with two equivalent LuC7 octahedra, a cornercorner with one CLu4C trigonal bipyramid, and edges with five equivalent LuC7 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. There are a spread of Lu–C bond distances ranging from 2.43–2.95 Å. In the second Lu3+ site, Lu3+ is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to nine C+1.71- atoms. There are a spread of Lu–C bond distances ranging from 2.37–2.77 Å. There are four inequivalent C+1.71- sites. In the first C+1.71- site, C+1.71- is bonded to six Lu3+ atoms to form CLu6 octahedra that share corners with two equivalent CLu4C trigonal bipyramids, edges with two equivalent CLu6 octahedra, and edges with four equivalent CLu4C trigonal bipyramids. In the second C+1.71- site, C+1.71- is bonded to four Lu3+ and one C+1.71- atom to form distorted CLu4C trigonal bipyramids that share a cornercorner with one LuC7 octahedra, a cornercorner with one CLu6 octahedra, corners with six equivalent CLu4C trigonal bipyramids, and edges with two equivalent CLu6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 31–60°. The C–C bond length is 1.32 Å. In the third C+1.71- site, C+1.71- is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to four Lu3+ and two C+1.71- atoms. The C–C bond length is 1.33 Å. In the fourth C+1.71- site, C+1.71- is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to five Lu3+ and one C+1.71- atom.

Materials Data on Lu2C3 by Materials Project

Lu2C3 is Plutonium carbide structured and crystallizes in the cubic I-43d space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Lu3+ is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to nine equivalent C2- atoms. There are a spread of Lu–C bond distances ranging from 2.44–2.75 Å. C2- is bonded to six equivalent Lu3+ and one C2- atom to form a mixture of distorted edge, corner, and face-sharing CLu6C trigonal bipyramids. The C–C bond length is 1.35 Å.

Materials Data on LuC2 by Materials Project

LuC2 crystallizes in the tetragonal I4/mmm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Lu is bonded in a distorted q4 geometry to ten equivalent C atoms. There are two shorter (2.38 Å) and eight longer (2.60 Å) Lu–C bond lengths. C is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to five equivalent Lu and one C atom. The C–C bond length is 1.31 Å.

Materials Data on Lu15C19 by Materials Project

Lu15C19 crystallizes in the tetragonal P-42_1c space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are five inequivalent Lu3+ sites. In the first Lu3+ site, Lu3+ is bonded to six C+2.37- atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing LuC6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 0–1°. There are a spread of Lu–C bond distances ranging from 2.44–2.61 Å. In the second Lu3+ site, Lu3+ is bonded in a 7-coordinate geometry to seven C+2.37- atoms. There are a spread of Lu–C bond distances ranging from 2.26–2.71 Å. In the third Lu3+ site, Lu3+ is bonded in a 7-coordinate geometry to seven C+2.37- atoms. There are a spread of Lu–C bond distances ranging from 2.26–2.74 Å. In the fourth Lu3+ site, Lu3+ is bonded to six C+2.37- atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing LuC6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. There are a spread of Lu–C bond distances ranging from 2.51–2.56 Å. In the fifth Lu3+ site, Lu3+ is bonded to six C+2.37- atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing LuC6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. There are two shorter (2.47 Å) and four longer (2.53 Å) Lu–C bond lengths. There are six inequivalent C+2.37- sites. In the first C+2.37- site, C+2.37- is bonded to six Lu3+ atoms to form CLu6 octahedra that share corners with six CLu6 octahedra and edges with twelve CLu5C octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 0–2°. In the second C+2.37- site, C+2.37- is bonded to five Lu3+ and one C+2.37- atom to form distorted CLu5C octahedra that share corners with seven CLu5C octahedra and edges with eight CLu6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 1–90°. The C–C bond length is 1.34 Å. In the third C+2.37- site, C+2.37- is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to four Lu3+ and two C+2.37- atoms. The C–C bond length is 1.35 Å. In the fourth C+2.37- site, C+2.37- is bonded to five Lu3+ and one C+2.37- atom to form distorted CLu5C octahedra that share corners with seven CLu5C octahedra and edges with eight CLu6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 2–91°. In the fifth C+2.37- site, C+2.37- is bonded to six Lu3+ atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing CLu6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 0–91°. In the sixth C+2.37- site, C+2.37- is bonded to six Lu3+ atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing CLu6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 0–2°.

Materials Data on Lu2C by Materials Project

Lu2C is trigonal omega-like structured and crystallizes in the trigonal R-3m space group. The structure is two-dimensional and consists of three Lu2C sheets oriented in the (0, 0, 1) direction. Lu is bonded in a distorted T-shaped geometry to three equivalent C atoms. All Lu–C bond lengths are 2.41 Å. C is bonded to six equivalent Lu atoms to form edge-sharing CLu6 octahedra.

Lu3C4 crystallizes in the tetragonal P4/mnc space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are four inequivalent Lu3+ sites. In the first Lu3+ site, Lu3+ is bonded to six C+2.25- atoms to form LuC6 octahedra that share corners with two equivalent LuC6 octahedra, corners with four equivalent LuC7 pentagonal bipyramids, and edges with four equivalent LuC7 pentagonal bipyramids. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. There are two shorter (2.46 Å) and four longer (2.54 Å) Lu–C bond lengths. In the second Lu3+ site, Lu3+ is bonded to six C+2.25- atoms to form LuC6 octahedra that share a cornercorner with one LuC6 octahedra and edges with four equivalent LuC7 pentagonal bipyramids. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. There are a spread of Lu–C bond distances ranging from 2.28–2.56 Å. In the third Lu3+ site, Lu3+ is bonded to seven C+2.25- atoms to form distorted LuC7 pentagonal bipyramids that share a cornercorner with one LuC6 octahedra, corners with two equivalent LuC7 pentagonal bipyramids, edges with three LuC6 octahedra, edges with two equivalent LuC7 pentagonal bipyramids, and faces with two equivalent LuC7 pentagonal bipyramids. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 2°. There are a spread of Lu–C bond distances ranging from 2.42–2.68 Å. In the fourth Lu3+ site, Lu3+ is bonded in a 7-coordinate geometry to seven C+2.25- atoms. There are a spread of Lu–C bond distances ranging from 2.28–2.79 Å. There are seven inequivalent C+2.25- sites. In the first C+2.25- site, C+2.25- is bonded to six Lu3+ atoms to form CLu6 octahedra that share corners with nine CLu6 octahedra and edges with eight CLu5C octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 0–84°. In the second C+2.25- site, C+2.25- is bonded to six Lu3+ atoms to form a mixture of corner and edge-sharing CLu6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 0–1°. Both C–Lu bond lengths are 2.28 Å. In the third C+2.25- site, C+2.25- is bonded to six Lu3+ atoms to form a mixture of corner and edge-sharing CLu6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 0–1°. In the fourth C+2.25- site, C+2.25- is bonded to six Lu3+ atoms to form a mixture of corner and edge-sharing CLu6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 0–1°. There are a spread of C–Lu bond distances ranging from 2.28–2.56 Å. In the fifth C+2.25- site, C+2.25- is bonded to five Lu3+ and one C+2.25- atom to form a mixture of corner and edge-sharing CLu5C octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 3–84°. The C–C bond length is 1.35 Å. In the sixth C+2.25- site, C+2.25- is bonded in a 2-coordinate geometry to four equivalent Lu3+ and two equivalent C+2.25- atoms. In the seventh C+2.25- site, C+2.25- is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to five Lu3+ and one C+2.25- atom. The C–C bond length is 1.31 Å.
