K2Mg(CO3)2 crystallizes in the trigonal R-3m space group. The structure is three-dimensional. K1+ is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to nine equivalent O2- atoms. There are six shorter (2.77 Å) and three longer (3.03 Å) K–O bond lengths. Mg2+ is bonded in an octahedral geometry to six equivalent O2- atoms. All Mg–O bond lengths are 2.12 Å. C4+ is bonded in a trigonal planar geometry to three equivalent O2- atoms. All C–O bond lengths are 1.30 Å. O2- is bonded in a 2-coordinate geometry to three equivalent K1+, one Mg2+, and one C4+ atom.

Materials Data on KMg(CO5)2 by Materials Project

KMg(CO5)2 crystallizes in the triclinic P-1 space group. The structure is three-dimensional. K is bonded to eight O atoms to form distorted KO8 hexagonal bipyramids that share edges with two equivalent MgO6 octahedra. There are a spread of K–O bond distances ranging from 2.66–3.19 Å. Mg is bonded to six O atoms to form distorted MgO6 octahedra that share edges with two equivalent KO8 hexagonal bipyramids. There are a spread of Mg–O bond distances ranging from 1.95–2.39 Å. C is bonded in a trigonal planar geometry to three O atoms. There are a spread of C–O bond distances ranging from 1.27–1.29 Å. There are five inequivalent O sites. In the first O site, O is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to one K, one Mg, and one O atom. The O–O bond length is 1.28 Å. In the second O site, O is bonded in a bent 120 degrees geometry to one Mg and one C atom. In the third O site, O is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to one K, one Mg, and one O atom. In the fourth O site, O is bonded in a distorted single-bond geometry to one K and one C atom. In the fifth O site, O is bonded in a distorted bent 150 degrees geometry to one K and one C atom.

KMg6CO8 crystallizes in the tetragonal P4/mmm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. K1+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form KO6 octahedra that share corners with four equivalent KO6 octahedra and edges with twelve MgO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. There are four shorter (2.40 Å) and two longer (2.65 Å) K–O bond lengths. There are three inequivalent Mg2+ sites. In the first Mg2+ site, Mg2+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form MgO6 octahedra that share corners with six MgO6 octahedra, edges with four equivalent KO6 octahedra, and edges with eight equivalent MgO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. There are two shorter (1.97 Å) and four longer (2.40 Å) Mg–O bond lengths.
