Materials Data on Ba3Al2O12 by Materials Project
Ba3Al2O12 crystallizes in the cubic Ia-3d space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Ba is bonded to eight equivalent O atoms to form distorted BaO8 hexagonal bipyramids that share edges with four equivalent BaO8 hexagonal bipyramids and edges with four equivalent AlO6 octahedra. All Ba–O bond lengths are 2.81 Å. Al is bonded to six equivalent O atoms to form distorted AlO6 octahedra that share edges with six equivalent BaO8 hexagonal bipyramids. All Al–O bond lengths are 1.86 Å. O is bonded in a distorted single-bond geometry to two equivalent Ba and one Al atom.
