Materials Data on Ba2Nb5O9 by Materials Project

Ba2Nb5O9 crystallizes in the tetragonal P4/mmm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Ba2+ is bonded to twelve O2- atoms to form BaO12 cuboctahedra that share corners with eight equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra, faces with five equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra, faces with four equivalent NbO6 octahedra, and faces with four equivalent NbO5 square pyramids. There are a spread of Ba–O bond distances ranging from 2.89–2.99 Å. There are three inequivalent Nb+2.80+ sites. In the first Nb+2.80+ site, Nb+2.80+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form NbO6 octahedra that share corners with four equivalent NbO6 octahedra, corners with two equivalent NbO5 square pyramids, and faces with eight equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. There are two shorter (2.00 Å) and four longer (2.11 Å) Nb–O bond lengths. In the second Nb+2.80+ site, Nb+2.80+ is bonded to five O2- atoms to form NbO5 square pyramids that share a cornercorner with one NbO6 octahedra, corners with four equivalent NbO5 square pyramids, and faces with four equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. There are four shorter (2.12 Å) and one longer (2.18 Å) Nb–O bond lengths. In the third Nb+2.80+ site, Nb+2.80+ is bonded in a square co-planar geometry to four O2- atoms. There are two shorter (2.11 Å) and two longer (2.14 Å) Nb–O bond lengths. There are four inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted linear geometry to four equivalent Ba2+ and two equivalent Nb+2.80+ atoms. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted linear geometry to four equivalent Ba2+ and two Nb+2.80+ atoms. In the third O2- site, O2- is bonded to two equivalent Ba2+ and three Nb+2.80+ atoms to form a mixture of distorted corner and edge-sharing OBa2Nb3 trigonal bipyramids. In the fourth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a square co-planar geometry to four equivalent Nb+2.80+ atoms.

Materials Data on BaNb8O14 by Materials Project

BaNb8O14 crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pbam space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Ba2+ is bonded to twelve O2- atoms to form BaO12 cuboctahedra that share corners with two equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra, corners with four equivalent NbO5 square pyramids, edges with six NbO5 square pyramids, faces with four equivalent NbO6 octahedra, and faces with two equivalent NbO5 square pyramids. There are a spread of Ba–O bond distances ranging from 2.83–3.01 Å. There are three inequivalent Nb+3.25+ sites. In the first Nb+3.25+ site, Nb+3.25+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form NbO6 octahedra that share a cornercorner with one NbO6 octahedra, corners with six NbO5 square pyramids, edges with two equivalent NbO5 square pyramids, and faces with two equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. There are a spread of Nb–O bond distances ranging from 1.97–2.09 Å. In the second Nb+3.25+ site, Nb+3.25+ is bonded to five O2- atoms to form NbO5 square pyramids that share corners with four equivalent NbO6 octahedra, corners with six equivalent NbO5 square pyramids, an edgeedge with one BaO12 cuboctahedra, and a faceface with one BaO12 cuboctahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 3–45°. There are a spread of Nb–O bond distances ranging from 2.11–2.21 Å. In the third Nb+3.25+ site, Nb+3.25+ is bonded to five O2- atoms to form NbO5 square pyramids that share a cornercorner with one BaO12 cuboctahedra, a cornercorner with one NbO6 octahedra, corners with six NbO5 square pyramids, an edgeedge with one BaO12 cuboctahedra, an edgeedge with one NbO6 octahedra, and an edgeedge with one NbO5 square pyramid. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 47°. There are a spread of Nb–O bond distances ranging from 2.05–2.19 Å. There are six inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted linear geometry to two equivalent Ba2+ and two equivalent Nb+3.25+ atoms. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to three Nb+3.25+ atoms. In the third O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted rectangular see-saw-like geometry to one Ba2+ and three Nb+3.25+ atoms. In the fourth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a square co-planar geometry to four equivalent Nb+3.25+ atoms. In the fifth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted T-shaped geometry to one Ba2+ and three Nb+3.25+ atoms. In the sixth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to one Ba2+ and three Nb+3.25+ atoms.

Materials Data on BaNb2O6 by Materials Project

BaNb2O6 crystallizes in the monoclinic P2_1/c space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Ba2+ is bonded in a distorted q6 geometry to ten O2- atoms. There are a spread of Ba–O bond distances ranging from 2.75–3.01 Å. Nb5+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form a mixture of distorted corner and edge-sharing NbO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 14–45°. There are a spread of Nb–O bond distances ranging from 1.90–2.22 Å. There are three inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted linear geometry to one Ba2+ and two equivalent Nb5+ atoms. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 2-coordinate geometry to two equivalent Ba2+ and two equivalent Nb5+ atoms. In the third O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to two equivalent Ba2+ and two equivalent Nb5+ atoms.

Ba2Nb15O32 crystallizes in the trigonal R-3 space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Ba2+ is bonded to twelve O2- atoms to form BaO12 cuboctahedra that share corners with six NbO6 octahedra, edges with three equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra, edges with three equivalent NbO6 octahedra, edges with three equivalent NbO5 square pyramids, and faces with three equivalent NbO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 44–54°. There are a spread of Ba–O bond distances ranging from 2.98–3.18 Å. There are four inequivalent Nb4+ sites. In the first Nb4+ site, Nb4+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form NbO6 octahedra that share corners with three equivalent NbO6 octahedra, corners with three equivalent NbO5 square pyramids, and edges with three equivalent NbO5 square pyramids. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 40°. There are three shorter (1.96 Å) and three longer (2.10 Å) Nb–O bond lengths. In the second Nb4+ site, Nb4+ is bonded to five O2- atoms to form NbO5 square pyramids that share corners with four NbO6 octahedra, corners with four equivalent NbO5 square pyramids, an edgeedge with one BaO12 cuboctahedra, and an edgeedge with one NbO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 6–55°. There are a spread of Nb–O bond distances ranging from 2.06–2.23 Å. In the third Nb4+ site, Nb4+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form NbO6 octahedra that share a cornercorner with one BaO12 cuboctahedra, corners with two NbO6 octahedra, corners with three equivalent NbO5 square pyramids, an edgeedge with one BaO12 cuboctahedra, edges with two equivalent NbO6 octahedra, and a faceface with one BaO12 cuboctahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 40–41°. There are a spread of Nb–O bond distances ranging from 1.92–2.14 Å. In the fourth Nb4+ site, Nb4+ is bonded to six equivalent O2- atoms to form NbO6 octahedra that share corners with six equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra and corners with six equivalent NbO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 41°. All Nb–O bond lengths are 2.03 Å. There are six inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 4-coordinate geometry to one Ba2+ and three Nb4+ atoms. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded in a T-shaped geometry to three Nb4+ atoms. In the third O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted trigonal non-coplanar geometry to three equivalent Nb4+ atoms. In the fourth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted bent 150 degrees geometry to one Ba2+ and two Nb4+ atoms. In the fifth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted water-like geometry to two equivalent Ba2+ and two equivalent Nb4+ atoms. In the sixth O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to three Nb4+ atoms.

Materials Data on BaNbO3 by Materials Project

BaNbO3 is (Cubic) Perovskite structured and crystallizes in the cubic Pm-3m space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Ba2+ is bonded to twelve equivalent O2- atoms to form BaO12 cuboctahedra that share corners with twelve equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra, faces with six equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra, and faces with eight equivalent NbO6 octahedra. All Ba–O bond lengths are 2.94 Å. Nb4+ is bonded to six equivalent O2- atoms to form NbO6 octahedra that share corners with six equivalent NbO6 octahedra and faces with eight equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. All Nb–O bond lengths are 2.08 Å. O2- is bonded in a distorted linear geometry to four equivalent Ba2+ and two equivalent Nb4+ atoms.

Nb is bonded in a body-centered cubic geometry to eight equivalent Ba atoms. O is bonded in a body-centered cubic geometry to eight equivalent Ba atoms.

Ba5Nb4O15 crystallizes in the trigonal P-3m1 space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are three inequivalent Ba2+ sites. In the first Ba2+ site, Ba2+ is bonded in a 12-coordinate geometry to twelve O2- atoms. There are a spread of Ba–O bond distances ranging from 2.80–3.30 Å. In the second Ba2+ site, Ba2+ is bonded to twelve O2- atoms to form BaO12 cuboctahedra that share corners with nine equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra, faces with three equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra, and faces with seven NbO6 octahedra. There are a spread of Ba–O bond distances ranging from 2.76–3.02 Å. In the third Ba2+ site, Ba2+ is bonded to twelve O2- atoms to form BaO12 cuboctahedra that share corners with six equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra, faces with six equivalent BaO12 cuboctahedra, and faces with eight NbO6 octahedra. There are six shorter (2.88 Å) and six longer (2.94 Å) Ba–O bond lengths. There are two inequivalent Nb5+ sites. In the first Nb5+ site, Nb5+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form NbO6 octahedra that share corners with six NbO6 octahedra and faces with seven BaO12 cuboctahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 0–9°. There are three shorter (1.97 Å) and three longer (2.12 Å) Nb–O bond lengths. In the second Nb5+ site, Nb5+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form distorted NbO6 octahedra that share corners with three equivalent NbO6 octahedra and faces with four BaO12 cuboctahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 9°. There are three shorter (1.87 Å) and three longer (2.29 Å) Nb–O bond lengths. There are three inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted single-bond geometry to four Ba2+ and one Nb5+ atom. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded in a 2-coordinate geometry to four Ba2+ and two Nb5+ atoms. In the third O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted linear geometry to four Ba2+ and two equivalent Nb5+ atoms.

There are three inequivalent O2- sites. In the first O2- site, O2- is bonded in a distorted linear geometry to four equivalent Ba2+ and two equivalent Nb+2.25+ atoms. In the second O2- site, O2- is bonded to two equivalent Ba2+ and three Nb+2.25+ atoms to form a mixture of distorted corner and edge-sharing OBa2Nb3 trigonal bipyramids. In the third O2- site, O2- is bonded in a square co-planar geometry to four equivalent Nb+2.25+ atoms.

BaNb8O14 crystallizes in the orthorhombic Cmc2_1 space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Ba2+ is bonded to twelve O2- atoms to form distorted BaO12 cuboctahedra that share a cornercorner with one BaO12 cuboctahedra, corners with two equivalent NbO6 octahedra, corners with six NbO5 square pyramids, edges with six NbO5 square pyramids, faces with three NbO6 octahedra, and faces with two NbO5 square pyramids. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 29–54°. There are a spread of Ba–O bond distances ranging from 2.84–3.26 Å. There are nine inequivalent Nb+3.25+ sites. In the first Nb+3.25+ site, Nb+3.25+ is bonded to five O2- atoms to form NbO5 square pyramids that share a cornercorner with one BaO12 cuboctahedra, a cornercorner with one NbO6 octahedra, corners with six NbO5 square pyramids, an edgeedge with one BaO12 cuboctahedra, an edgeedge with one NbO6 octahedra, and an edgeedge with one NbO5 square pyramid. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 46°. There are a spread of Nb–O bond distances ranging from 2.07–2.18 Å. In the second Nb+3.25+ site, Nb+3.25+ is bonded to five O2- atoms to form NbO5 square pyramids that share a cornercorner with one BaO12 cuboctahedra, a cornercorner with one NbO6 octahedra, corners with six NbO5 square pyramids, an edgeedge with one BaO12 cuboctahedra, an edgeedge with one NbO6 octahedra, and an edgeedge with one NbO5 square pyramid. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 48°. There are a spread of Nb–O bond distances ranging from 2.07–2.19 Å. In the third Nb+3.25+ site, Nb+3.25+ is bonded to five O2- atoms to form NbO5 square pyramids that share corners with two equivalent NbO6 octahedra, corners with six NbO5 square pyramids, an edgeedge with one BaO12 cuboctahedra, an edgeedge with one NbO6 octahedra, and a faceface with one BaO12 cuboctahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 6–46°. There are a spread of Nb–O bond distances ranging from 2.08–2.25 Å. In the fourth Nb+3.25+ site, Nb+3.25+ is bonded to five O2- atoms to form NbO5 square pyramids that share corners with four NbO6 octahedra, corners with six NbO5 square pyramids, an edgeedge with one BaO12 cuboctahedra, and a faceface with one BaO12 cuboctahedra.
