Low temperature hydrogen broadened linewidths of ammonia in the (0,1,0,0)-(0,0,0,0) band at 200 K

Results are reported of extensive and systematic measurements of hydrogen broadening of the ammonia (0,1,0,0)-(0,0,0,0) band at 200 K. The measured linewidths for each of the observed branches in this band were determined with an average rms of 5 percent or less. Plots of the K manifolds for four of the five branches that were measured are presented. It is suggested that these width data can be used for analyzing atmospheric spectra of the outer planets and for validating theories of foreign-gas broadening of ammonia.

Observation of the Open-Charm Tetraquark Candidate T c s 0 * ( 2870 ) 0 in the B − → D − D 0 K S 0 Decay

An amplitude analysis of B − → D − D 0 K S 0 decays is performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb − 1 , collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. A resonant structure of spin-parity 0 + is observed in the D 0 K S 0 invariant-mass spectrum with a significance of 5.3 σ . The mass and width of the state, modeled with a Breit-Wigner line shape, are determined to be 2883 ± 11 ± 8 MeV / c 2 and 87 − 47 + 22 ± 17 MeV , respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These properties and the quark content are consistent with those of the open-charm tetraquark candidate T c s 0 * ( 2870 ) 0 observed previously in the D + K − final state of the B − → D − D + K − decay. This result confirms the existence of the T c s 0 * ( 2870 ) 0 state in a new decay mode. The T c s 1 * ( 2900 ) 0 state, reported in the B − → D − D + K − decay, is also searched for in the D 0 K S 0 invariant-mass spectrum of the B − → D − D 0 K S 0 decay, without finding evidence for it. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration 2025 CERN

Study of the light scalar a 0 ( 980 ) through the decay D 0 → a 0 ( 980 ) − e + ν e with a 0 ( 980 ) − → η π −

Using 7.93 fb − 1 of e + e − collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we present an analysis of the decay D 0 → η π − e + ν e . The branching fraction of the decay D 0 → a 0 ( 980 ) − e + ν e with a 0 ( 980 ) − → η π − is measured to be ( 0.86 ± 0.1 7 stat ± 0.0 5 syst ) × 10 − 4 . The decay dynamics of this process is studied with a single-pole parametrization of the hadronic form factor and the Flatté formula describing the a 0 ( 980 ) line shape in the differential decay rate. The product of the form factor f + a 0 ( 0 ) and the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element | V c d | is determined for the first time with the result f + a 0 ( 0 ) | V c d | = 0.126 ± 0.01 3 stat ± 0.00 3 syst . Model-independent measurement of 𝐷 0 −$\overline{D}$ 0 mixing parameters in 𝐷 0 → 𝐾$^{0}_{𝑆}$⁢𝜋 + ⁢𝜋 − decays at Belle and Belle II

We perform a model-independent measurement of the 𝐷 0 −$\overline{D}$ 0 mixing parameters using samples of 𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − -collision data collected by the Belle and Belle II experiments that have integrated luminosities of 951 fb −1 and 408 fb −1 , respectively. Approximately 2.05 × 10 6 neutral 𝐷 mesons are reconstructed in the 𝐷 0 → 𝐾$^{0}_{S}$⁢𝜋 + ⁢𝜋 − channel, with the neutral 𝐷 flavor tagged by the charge of the pion in the 𝐷* + → 𝐷 0⁢ 𝜋 + decay. Assuming charge-parity symmetry, the mixing parameters are measured to be 𝑥 = (4.0 ±1.7 ±0.4) × 10 −3 and 𝑦 = (2.9 ±1.4 ±0.3) × 10 −3 , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The results are consistent with previous determinations.

Measurement of the branching fractions of D + → K + K − π + π + π − , ϕ π + π + π − , K S 0 K + π + π − π 0 , K S 0 K + η , and K S 0 K + ω decays

Using 20.3 fb − 1 of e + e − collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, the branching fractions of three hadronic charm meson decays, D + → ϕ π + π + π − , D + → K S 0 K + π + π − π 0 , and D + → K S 0 K + ω , are measured for the first time to be ( 0.54 ± 0.19 ± 0.02 ) × 10 − 4 , ( 2.51 ± 0.34 ± 0.14 ) × 10 − 4 , and ( 2.02 ± 0.35 ± 0.10 ) × 10 − 4 , respectively. Futhermore, the branching fractions of D + → K + K − π + π + π − and D + → K S 0 K + η are measured with improved precision, yielding values of ( 0.66 ± 0.11 ± 0.03 ) × 10 − 4 and ( 2.27 ± 0.22 ± 0.05 ) × 10 − 4 , respectively. Observation of D → a 0 ( 980 ) π in the decays D 0 → π + π − η and D + → π + π 0 η

We report the first amplitude analyses of the decays D 0 → π + π − η and D + → π + π 0 η using a data sample taken with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of 3773 MeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.9 fb − 1 . The contribution from the process D 0 ( + ) → a 0 ( 980 ) + π − ( 0 ) is significantly larger than the D 0 ( + ) → a 0 ( 980 ) − ( 0 ) π + contribution. The ratios B ( D 0 → a 0 ( 980 ) + π − ) / B ( D 0 → a 0 ( 980 ) − π + ) and B ( D + → a 0 ( 980 ) + π 0 ) / B ( D + → a 0 ( 980 ) 0 π + ) are measured to be 7.5 − 0.8 stat + 2.5 ± 1.7 syst and 2.6 ± 0.6 stat ± 0.3 syst , respectively. The measured D 0 ratio disagrees with the theoretical predictions by orders of magnitudes, thus implying a substantial contribution from final-state interactions. Measurements of the branching fractions of ${\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Sigma }^{+}{K}_{S}^{0}$, ${\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{0}{\pi }^{+}$, and ${\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{0}{K}+$ at Belle and Belle II

Using 983.0 fb −1 and 427.9 fb −1 data samples collected with the Belle and Belle II detectors at the KEKB and SuperKEKB asymmetric energy e + e − colliders, respectively, we present studies of the Cabibbo-favored ${\Xi }_{c}^{+}$ decays ${\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Sigma }^{+}{K}_{S}^{0}$ and ${\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{0}{\pi }^{+}$, and the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay ${\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{0}{K}^{+}$. The ratios of branching fractions of ${\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Sigma }^{+}{K}_{S}^{0}$ and ${\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{0}{K}^{+}$ relative to that of ${\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{-}{\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{+}$ are measured for the first time, while the ratio $\mathcal{B}({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{0}{\pi }^{+})/\mathcal{B}({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{-}{\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{+})$ is also determined and improved by an order of magnitude in precision. The measured branching fraction ratios are $\begin{array}{c}\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Sigma }^{+}{K}_{S}^{0}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{-}{\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{+}\right)}=0.067\pm 0.007\pm 0.003,\\ \frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{0}{\pi }^{+}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{-}{\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{+}\right)}=0.251\pm 0.005\pm 0.010,\\ \frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{0}{K}^{+}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{-}{\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{+}\right)}=0.017\pm 0.003\pm 0.001.\end{array}$ Additionally, the ratio $\mathcal{B}({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{0}{K}^{+})/\mathcal{B}({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{0}{\pi }^{+})$ is measured to be 0.068 ± 0.010 ± 0.004. Here, the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Multiplying the ratios by the branching fraction of the normalization mode, $\mathcal{B}({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{-}{\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{+})=(2.9\pm 1.3)%$, we obtain the following absolute branching fractions $\begin{array}{c}\mathcal{B}({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Sigma }^{+}{K}_{S}^{0})=(0.194\pm 0.021\pm 0.009\pm 0.087)\text{%},\\ \mathcal{B}({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{0}{\pi }^{+})=(0.728\pm 0.014\pm 0.027\pm 0.326)\text{%},\\ \mathcal{B}({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{0}{K}^{+})=(0.049\pm 0.007\pm 0.003\pm 0.022)\text{%},\end{array}$ where the third uncertainties are from $\mathcal{B}({\Xi }_{c}^{+}\to {\Xi }^{-}{\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{+})$.

Search for $CP$ violation in D$^0$$\to$ K$^0_\mathrm{S}$K$^0_\mathrm{S}$ decays in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

A search is reported for charge-parity $CP$ violation in D$^0$$\to$ K$^0_\mathrm{S}$K$^0_\mathrm{S}$ decays, using data collected in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV recorded by the CMS experiment in 2018. The analysis uses a dedicated data set that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 41.6 fb$^{-1}$, which consists of about 10 billion events containing a pair of b hadrons, nearly all of which decay to charm hadrons. The flavor of the neutral D meson is determined by the pion charge in the reconstructed decays D$^{*+}$$\to$ D$^0\pi^+$ and D$^{*-}$$\to$ D$^0\pi^-$. The $CP$ asymmetry in D$^0$$\to$ K$^0_\mathrm{S}$K$^0_\mathrm{S}$ is measured to be $A_{CP}$(K$^0_\mathrm{S}$K$^0_\mathrm{S}$) = (6.2 $\pm$ 3.0 $\pm$ 0.2 $\pm$ 0.8)%, where the three uncertainties represent the statistical uncertainty, the systematic uncertainty, and the uncertainty in the measurement of the $CP$ asymmetry in the D$^0$ $\to$ K$^0_\mathrm{S}\pi^+\pi^-$ decay. This is the first $CP$ asymmetry measurement by CMS in the charm sector as well as the first to utilize a fully hadronic final state.

Measurement of the time-integrated 𝐶⁢𝑃 asymmetry in 𝐷 0 → 𝜋 0 ⁢𝜋 0 decays at Belle II

We measure the time-integrated 𝐶⁢𝑃 asymmetry, 𝐴 𝐶⁢𝑃 , in 𝐷 0 → 𝜋 0 ⁢𝜋 0 decays reconstructed in 𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − → $𝑐⁢\bar{𝑐}$ events collected by Belle II during 2019–2022. The data corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 428 fb −1 . The 𝐷 0 decays are required to originate from the flavor-conserving 𝐷 *+ → 𝐷 0 ⁢𝜋 + decay to determine the charm flavor at production time. Control samples of 𝐷 0 → 𝐾 − ⁢𝜋 + decays, with or without an associated pion from a 𝐷 *+ decay, are used to correct for detection asymmetries. The result, 𝐴 𝐶⁢𝑃 ⁡(𝐷 0 → 𝜋 0 ⁢𝜋 0 ) = (0.30 ± 0.72 ± 0.20)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic, is consistent with 𝐶⁢𝑃 symmetry.

Measurement of the time-integrated 𝐶⁢𝑃 asymmetry in 𝐷 0 → 𝐾$^{0}_{S}$𝐾$^{0}_{S}$ decays using opposite-side flavor tagging at Belle and Belle II

We measure the time-integrated 𝐶⁢𝑃 asymmetry in 𝐷 0 → 𝐾$^{0}_{S}$𝐾$^{0}_{S}$ decays reconstructed in 𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − → $c\bar{c}$ events collected by the Belle and Belle II experiments. The corresponding data samples have integrated luminosities of 980 and 428 fb −1 , respectively. To infer the flavor of the 𝐷 0 meson, we exploit the correlation between the flavor of the reconstructed decay and the electric charges of particles reconstructed in the rest of the 𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − → $c\bar{c}$ event. This results in a sample which is independent from any other previously used at Belle or Belle II. The result, 𝐴 𝐶⁢𝑃 ⁡(𝐷 0 → 𝐾$^{0}_{S}$𝐾$^{0}_{S}$)=(1.3±2.0±0.2)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic, is consistent with previous determinations and with 𝐶⁢𝑃 symmetry.

Study of Λ b 0 and Ξ b 0 Decays to Λ h + h ′ − and Evidence for C P Violation in Λ b 0 → Λ K + K − Decays

A study of Λ b 0 and Ξ b 0 decays to Λ h + h ′ − ( h ( ′ ) = π , K ) is performed using p p collision data collected by the LHCb experiment during LHC Runs 1–2, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb − 1 . The branching fractions for these decays are measured using the Λ b 0 → Λ c + ( → Λ π + ) π − decay as a control channel. The decays Λ b 0 → Λ π + π − and Ξ b 0 → Λ K − π + are observed for the first time. For decay modes with sufficient signal yields, C P asymmetries are measured in the full and localized regions of the final-state phase space. Evidence is found for C P violation in the Λ b 0 → Λ K + K − decay, interpreted as originating primarily from an asymmetric Λ b 0 → N * + K − decay amplitude. The measured C P asymmetries for other decays are compatible with zero. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration 2025 CERN

Measurement of the 𝐷 0 →𝐾 − ⁢𝜋 + ⁢𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − branching fraction and search for 𝐷 0 → 𝜋 + ⁢𝜋 − ⁢𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − and 𝐷 0 →𝐾 + ⁢𝐾 − ⁢𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − decays at Belle

We present a study of the rare charm meson decays 𝐷 0 →𝐾 + ⁢𝐾 − ⁢𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − , 𝜋 + ⁢𝜋 − ⁢𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − , and 𝐾 − ⁢𝜋 + ⁢𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − using a 942 fb −1 dataset collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy 𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − collider. We identify 𝐷 0 candidates via the charge of the pion from 𝐷* + →𝐷 0 ⁢𝜋 + decays and normalize the branching fractions to 𝐷 0 → 𝐾 − ⁢𝜋 + ⁢𝜋 − ⁢𝜋 + decays. The branching fraction for decay 𝐷 0 → 𝐾 − ⁢𝜋 + ⁢𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − is measured to be (39.6 ± 4.5 (stat) ± 2.9 (syst)) × 10 −7 , with the dielectron mass in the 𝜌/𝜔 mass region 675 < 𝑚 𝑒⁢𝑒 < 875 MeV/⁢𝑐 2 . We also search for 𝐷 0 → ℎ − ⁡ℎ (′)+ ⁡𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − (ℎ (′) = 𝐾, 𝜋) decays with the dielectron mass near the 𝜂 and 𝜙 resonances, and away from these resonances for the 𝐾 + ⁢𝐾 − ⁢𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − and 𝜋 + ⁢𝜋 − ⁢𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − modes. For these modes, we find no significant signals and set 90% confidence level upper limits on their branching fractions at the 𝒪⁡(10 −7 ) level.

Measurement of the time-integrated C P asymmetry in D 0 → K S 0 K S 0 decays using Belle and Belle II data

We measure the time-integrated C P asymmetry in D 0 → K S 0 K S 0 decays reconstructed in e + e − → c c ¯ events collected by the Belle and Belle II experiments. The corresponding data samples have integrated luminosities of 980 and 428 fb − 1 , respectively. The D 0 decays are required to originate from the D * + → D 0 π + decay, which determines the charm flavor at production time. A control sample of D 0 → K + K − decays is used to correct for production and detection asymmetries. The result, ( − 1.4 ± 1.3 ( stat ) ± 0.1 ( syst ) ) % , is consistent with previous determinations and with C P symmetry. Published by the American Physical Society 2025

First detection of the ground state JK = 1 sub 0 going to 0 sub 0 submillimeter transition of interstellar ammonia

The JK = 1 sub 0 approaching O sub 0 transition of ammonia at 572.5 GHz was detected in OMC-1 from NASA's Kuiper Airborne Observatory. The central velocity of the line (VLSR approximately = 9 km/s) indicates that it originates in the molecular cloud material, not the hot core. The derived filling factor of approximately 0.09 in a 2' beam implies a source diameter of approximately 35" if it is a single clump. This clump area is much larger than that derived from observations of the sub 1 inversion transition. The larger optical depth in the 1 sub 0 approaching 0 sub 0 transition (75-350) can account for the increased source area and linewidth as compared with those seen in the 1 sub 0 inversion transition.

Auroral excitation of the N2 2P(0,0) and VK(0,9) bands

The low-energy secondary electron flux caused by auroral electron precipitation is examined using data from the Atmosphere Explorer C satellite. An energetic electron transport algorithm is used to compute the differential electron flux produced by measured primaries. Emissions of N2 in the 2P(0,0) band at 337 nm and the VK(0,9) band at 335 nm predicted by the model are compared with photometric observation of their combined volume emission rate altitude profile made by the visible airglow experiment. Reasonable correspondence between model and measurement is obtained. Ratios of emissions at 337 nm and 630 nm to the N2(+) 1N(0,0) band at 428 nm are also studied. It is concluded that the 337/428 nm ratio responds to changes in the characteristic energy of primary auroral electrons only insofar as part of the 337 nm brightness is due to N2 VK(0,9) emission. The 630/428 nm ratio, which is strongly dependent on characteristic energy, also varies significantly with changes in atomic oxygen density.
