Study on the neuronal circuits implicated in postural tremor and hypokinesia

The effect of various tegmentary lesions at the level of the pontomesenchphalon in monkeys on motor function was observed. The importance of the monoaminergic mechanisms of the brainstem is discussed. The results also show the importance of the descending tegmentary rubral system and the rubroolivocerebellar circuit in controlling peripheral motor activity. The destruction of the sensory motor cortex proves to be a more effective way of eliminating spontaneous or harmaline induced tremor than the complete interruption of the pyramidal system on the level of the cerebral peduncle.

Effect of gravitational overloads, hypokinesia and hypodynamia on the vessels of the pulmonary blood circuit

Vessels of the pulmonary circuit are studied under normal conditions, in exposure to single stress or continuous threshold endurable chestspine gravitational stresses, and one to eight weak hypokinesia and hypodynamic effects followed by stress. Examination methods include rentgenography and microrentgenography, clearing, and histology. In exposure to gravitational stress the distal portions of the arterial vessels of the 3 and 4 orders constrict, while all veins dilate. Sinuosity of all vessels is noted. The volume of the capillary bed increases and signs of perivascular edema occur. Due to hypokinesia and hypodynamia the arteries constricted and the arterial bed becomes poor. The veins of all orders dilate and the volume of the capillary bed increases. The changes grew greater the longer the terms of hypodyamic effects. Successive combination of hypokinesia and hypodynamia and gravitational stresses cause more pronounced changes than separate effects of these two factors and result in great deformity of the vascular walls, including their rupture and penetration of formed elements beyond the limits of the vascular bed.

Characterization of silicon-gate CMOS/SOS integrated circuits processed with ion implantation

Progress in developing the application of ion implantation techniques to silicon gate CMOS/SOS processing is described. All of the conventional doping techniques such as in situ doping of the epi-film and diffusion by means of doped oxides are replaced by ion implantation. Various devices and process parameters are characterized to generate an optimum process by the use of an existing SOS test array. As a result, excellent circuit performance is achieved. A general description of the all ion implantation process is presented.

Short-circuit current improvement in thin cells with a gridded back contact

The use of gridded back contact on thin silicon solar cells 50 micrometers was investigated. An unexpected increase in short circuit current of almost 10 percent was experienced for 2 cm x 2 cm cells. Control cells with the standard continuous contact metallization were fabricated at the same time as the gridded back cells with all processes identical up to the formation of the back contact. The gridded back contact pattern was delineated by evaporation of Ti-Pd over a photo-resist mask applied to the back of the wafer; the Ti-Pd film on the controls was applied in the standard fashion in a continuous layer over the back of the cell. The Ti-Pd contacts were similarly applied to the front of the wafer, and the grid pattern on both sides of the cell was electroplated with 8-10 micrometers of silver.

Resonant electrodynamic heating of stellar coronal loops: An LRC circuit analogue

The electrodynamic coupling of stellar coronal loops to underlying beta velocity fields. A rigorous analysis revealed that the physics can be represented by a simple yet equivalent LRC circuit analogue. This analogue points to the existence of global structure oscillations which resonantly excite internal field line oscillations at a spatial resonance within the coronal loop. Although the width of this spatial resonance, as well as the induced currents and coronal velocity field, explicitly depend upon viscosity and resistivity, the resonant form of the generalized electrodynamic heating function is virtually independent of irreversibilities. This is a classic feature of high quality resonators that are externally driven by a broad band source of spectral power. Applications to solar coronal loops result in remarkable agreement with observations.

A three-ring circuit model of the magnetosphere

The magnetosphere is modeled by superimposing a dipole field, a uniform field and a perturbation field due to a simple current system. This current system comprises a ring current in the neutral line of the dipole plus uniform fields, together with vertical currents representing field-aligned currents to the neutral line. The current circuit is closed through two additional ring currents above and below the equatorial plane representing distributed adiabatic perpendicular currents. This system produces many magnetospheric features, among them a magnetopause, bending of magnetic field lines in the anti-solar direction, a magnetotail, and cusps in the day-side of the earth. The objective is to demonstrate that it is not necessary to think of the magnetic field topology as being caused by the flowing plasma carrying field lines. The primary physical problem is to derive the current system from the self-consistent interaction of the solar-wind and magnetospheric plasmas and fields.

Stable Polyurethane Coatings for Electronic Circuits

Alkane-based polyurethanes resist deterioration while maintaining good dielectric properties. Weight loss after prolonged immersion in hot water far less for alkane-based polyurethanes than for more common ether based polyurethanes, at any given oxygen content. Major uses of polyurethanes are as connector potting materials and conformal coatings for printed circuit boards.

Method for sequentially processing a multi-level interconnect circuit in a vacuum chamber

The processing of wafer devices to form multilevel interconnects for microelectronic circuits is described. The method is directed to performing the sequential steps of etching the via, removing the photo resist pattern, back sputtering the entire wafer surface and depositing the next layer of interconnect material under common vacuum conditions without exposure to atmospheric conditions. Apparatus for performing the method includes a vacuum system having a vacuum chamber in which wafers are processed on rotating turntables. The vacuum chamber is provided with an RF sputtering system and a DC magnetron sputtering system. A gas inlet is provided in the chamber for the introduction of various gases to the vacuum chamber and the creation of various gas plasma during the sputtering steps.

Noise equivalent circuit of a semiconductor laser diode

A small-signal model of a semiconductor laser is extended to include the effects of intrinsic noise by adding current and voltage noise sources. The current noise source represents the shot noise of carrier recombination, while the voltage noise source represents the random process of simulated emission. The usefulness of the noise equivalent circuit is demonstrated by calculating the modulation and noise characteristics of a current-driven diode as a function of bias current and frequency.

Resonant electrodynamic heating of stellar coronal loops - An LRC circuit analog

The problem of electrodynamic coupling of stellar coronal loops where beta is less than 1 to underlying velocity fields where beta is greater than approximately 1 is treated. A rigorous analysis reveals that the physics can be represented by a simple yet equivalent LRC circuit analog. This derived analog suggests the existence of global structure oscillations which resonantly excite internal field line oscillations at a spatial resonance within the coronal loop. Even though the width of this spatial resonance, as well as the induced currents and coronal velocity field, within the resonance region explicitly depends on viscosity and resistivity, the resonant form of the generalized electrodynamic heating functions is virtually independent of irreversibilities. This is a classic feature of high-quality resonators that are driven externally by a broad-band source of spectral power.

Off-line, built-in test techniques for VLSI circuits

It is shown that the use of redundant on-chip circuitry improves the testability of an entire VLSI circuit. In the study described here, five techniques applied to a two-bit ripple carry adder are compared. The techniques considered are self-oscillation, self-comparison, partition, scan path, and built-in logic block observer. It is noted that both classical stuck-at faults and nonclassical faults, such as bridging faults (shorts), stuck-on x faults where x may be 0, 1, or vary between the two, and parasitic flip-flop faults occur in IC structures. To simplify the analysis of the testing techniques, however, a stuck-at fault model is assumed.
