Impact of atmospheric water vapor on the thermal infrared remote sensing of volcanic sufur dioxide emmisions: A case study from Pu'u 'O'o vent of Kilauea volcano, Hawaii

The December 18, 1999, launch of NASA's Terra satellite put two multispectral thermal infrared imaging instruments into Earth orbit. Experiments with airborne instruments have demonstrated that the data from such instruments can be used to detect volcanic SO2 plumes and clouds.

The Planetary Data System - A Case Study in the Development and Management of Meta-Data for a Scientific Digital Library

The Planetary Data System (PDS) is an active science data archive managed by scientists for NASA's planetary science community. With the advent of the World Wide Web the majority of the archive has been placed on-line as a science digital libraty for access by scientists, the educational community, and the general public.

Finding Fault with Faults: A Case Study

We describe our effort in extending this work beyond the initial software contruction. Our area of focus is determining the rate of fault injection over a sequence of successive builds, first observing that software faults may be seen to fall into two distinct classes some faults are incorporated during the initial coding effort, while others are added in successive software builds.

Implementing Falut Tolerance in the COTS-Based X2000 Architecture: A Case Study on IEEE 1394

Among other challenges from NASA's X2000 Technology Development Program, affordability and miniaturizaton are prominent criteria, which 1) preclude the traditional solutions for mission reliability that rely on customer-built hardware and extensive component/subsystem replication, and 2) call for commercial-of-the-shelf (COTS) based approaches incorporating novel, practical fault tolerance techniques.

Case Studies in Continuous Process Improvement

This study focuses on improving the SMT assembly process in a low-volume, high-reliability environment with emphasis on fine pitch and BGA packages. Before a process improvement is carried out, it is important to evaluate where the process stands in terms of process capability.
