Write-up on the analytical formalism for DTL Synchrotron and Betatron frequencies estimates

Appendix A contains tables of the DTL tanks geometry, generated using PARMILA code with input parameters of initial and final energy, accelerating gradient, synchronouse phase, and using DTLfish code (part of the SUPERFISH/POISSON package of codes). Details of the design and generation od the DTL geometry will be presented in a separate report. After generation of the DTL geometry and initial beam dynamics simulations, the analytic estimates of the synchrotron and betatron oscillations, as well as presence of the parametric resonance of first order were done. In present report the analytic background of those estimates, as well as the results of these are presented.

Watching the Watchers with Verified Formal-Assurance Tools (Abbreviated Final Report)

The “Watching the Watchers” project studied the problem of establishing assurance cases for tools that are used to assure other things. Specifically, we were interested in understanding the tools and techniques one could apply to software to build an assurance case to evaluate their applicability, difficulty, level of assurance provided, and scalability. To do so we chose a set of use cases of relevance to LLNL and our various DOE and non-DOE partners and developed demonstrators to perform this evaluation. Our key focal point was around additive manufacturing problems and assurance gaps that we identified in the additive manufacturing workflow from start to completion. We also explored other areas related to AI, data analysis, and concurrent programming. Follow-on research is planned to take our prototypes from this project and adapt and mature them to fit LLNL mission applications.

The Transition Density Formalism in the First Compton Computation on $^4$He

The method and results of the first theory description of 4He Compton scattering at nuclear energies is presented, with a focus on figures. It uses the same Compton kernels familiar from proton, deuteron and 3He Compton scattering in Chiral Effective Field Theory with explicit Delta degrees of freedom, applicable between about 50 and 130MeV. The result compares well to data from HIγS, MAXlab and Illinois. The sensitivity of the cross section on the (static) scalar-isoscalar polarisabilities of the nucleon is explored. The project is part of the synergetic international effort of experimentalists and theorists in Compton scattering on one- and few-nucleon systems.
