A sinusoidal-vibration analysis program for experimental data

A program is described for obtaining resonant frequencies, modal amplitudes, and damping of a structure from a sinusoidal force-controlled vibration test. Presented are the theoretical basis for the analysis (the Kennedy-Pancu method), recommendations for a test procedure based on experience with several earlier test programs, and an outline of the data analysis technique. Although the program was developed for structural vibration problems, variations for processing any sinusoidal data are available.

High Reynolds number experimental data for forebody axial force.

Brief review of the operational principle and capability of the high-Reynolds-number wind tunnel developed over the last few years. Its test medium is stored in a Ludwieg tube and held there by means of a diaphragm. When the diaphragm is broken, a rearward-facing centered rarefaction fan propagates upstream through the test section and nozzle into the supply tube, and the useful run time is bounded by the reflected rarefaction wave and the starting shock wave caused by choking at the nozzle. The operating problems center around the ability of model and sting support systems to withstand the loads and to meet the instrumentation requirements. Evaluation tests have shown that satisfactory force and moment measurements can be obtained in this facility.

Modification of a three-dimensional supersonic nozzle analysis and comparison with experimental data

A computer program previously developed to analyze three-dimensional supersonic nozzles by the method of characteristics has been modified to study less restrictive nozzle geometries and nonuniform inlet conditions. An example indicates that a one-dimensional calculation that uses an averaged initial profile may be significantly in error. A comparison between the analysis and the data from a three-dimensional experiment shows generally good agreement between the two.

Industrial realization of a direct Fourier transform in automated experimental data processing systems

Fourier processing of automatic signals transforms direct current voltage into a numerical form through bandpass filtration in time-pulse multiplying devices. It is shown that the ratio of the interference energy to the useful signal energy is inversely proportional to the square of the product of the depth of the width modulation and the ratio of the time constant averaging to the cross-multiplied signals.

Discussion and theoretical summarization of the experimental data

A summary of research on psychological factors that cause substantial changes in the reliability indicators of an operators work is followed by a conclusion that strong moral-volitional qualities are the basic factors that make the human behavior under conditions of stress effective; emotional subcortical subdominants affect a person's conscious organization and self control in a man machine environment.

Experience gained from computer processing of physical experimental data during the restoration of measured values

The processing stage in which the restored values of the physical parameters are received is described. The following main steps are discussed: estimation of the state of the telemetry data, processing of the calibration data, and determination of the errors in the data; data decommutation and analysis of the structure of measurement cycles for each instrument; decoding, estimates of the reliability of the restored data, and their agreement with the models adopted for the measurement process; and analysis of errors due to deterministic and random factors. A block diagram of the method is presented.

Use of information-retrieval languages in automated retrieval of experimental data from long-term storage

Problems and methods are discussed of automating information retrieval operations in a data bank used for long term storage and retrieval of data from scientific experiments. Existing information retrieval languages are analyzed along with those being developed. The results of studies discussing the application of the descriptive 'Kristall' language used in the 'ASIOR' automated information retrieval system are presented. The development and use of a specialized language of the classification-descriptive type, using universal decimal classification indices as the main descriptors, is described.

Experimental data for new fire-retardant materials

Report contains evaluations of flammability and physical properties of twenty-four upholstery and furnishing materials, such as those used in commercial aircraft. Data presented include degradation upon heating, limited oxygen indices, smoke generation, flammability afterglow, and char length.
