The eVTOL Passenger Experience study was conducted to give an overview of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Passenger Considerations and Design Consideration. The objectives were to survey the existing body of knowledge regarding aviation passenger experience, understand current issues pertaining to eVTOL passenger operations, correlate passenger issues to dosing and operational parameters, identify mitigations and gaps in understanding, and to develop recommendations for NASA research.

The Spacecraft Control Laboratory Experiment (SCOLE) will allow direct experimental comparison of competing control schemes for large flexible spacecraft structures. The experiment was designed to emulate the essential characteristics of a mathematical model design challenge which represents a Space Shuttle with a flexible mast and antenna attached. This experiment represents the third in a series of three flexible structure control experiments used by the Flight Dynamics and Control Division at LaRC. The key problem addressed by the facility is that flexible motion of the mast and antenna must be considered in the slewing and pointing control problems.
Report dicusses system for management of data from Pilot Field Experiment (PiFEx) program, which consists of series of experiments on propagation of signals from transmitter at one fixed location to transponder on tower at another fixed location and from transponder to mobile receiver in van. Purpose of experiments to simulate signal-propagation conditions of land-mobile/satellite communication system.
This paper reports experiments involving the handling of flexible parts (e.g. wires) when using a teleoperated system with time delay. The task is principally a peg-in-hole task involving the wrapping of a wire around two posts on the task-board. It is difficult to estimate the effects of the flexible parts; therefore, on-line teleoperation is indispensable for this class of unpredictable task. We first propose a teleoperation system based on the predictive image display, then describe an experimental teleoperation testbed with a four second transmission time delay. Finally, we report on wire handling operations that were performed to evaluate the performance of this system. Those experiments will contribute to future advanced experiments for the MITI ETS-7 mission.
Report describes evolution of photovoltaic power systems designed and built for terrestrial use. Discussion focuses on technological problems impeding further systems development. Experiments and test data on seven types of solar panels and six material test specimens are described in detail.
This report presents experiments of a less viscous liquid displaced by a more viscous, miscible liquid in a vertical tube of small diameter. The liquids used are silicone oils of various viscosities. The more viscous fluid has a higher density than the less viscous fluid. The experiments showed that the interface between the liquids can be unstable and exhibits an asymmetric, sinuous shape for downward displacement. The Reynolds number is negligibly small in these experiments and the Peclet number for mass transfer is O(50)-0(l0(exp 5)). The influence of gravity is characterized by the dimensionless parameter F=g(Delta)(rho)d(sup 2)/(mu)U where g is the acceleration due to gravity, Delta(rho) is the density difference between the fluids, d is the tube diameter, mu is the viscosity of the more viscous fluid, and U is the displacement speed. Visualization and PIV measurement of the unstable linger are reported. Experiments were also conducted to study immiscible displacements in tubes in order to compare with previously obtained results for miscible fluids.

Experiments were conducted to evaluate aircraft remote sensing techniques for hydrology in a wide range of physiographic and climatic regions using several sensor platforms. The data were collected in late 1978 and during 1979 in two humid areas--Taylor Creek, Fla., and Little River, Ga. Soil moisture measurements and climatic observations are presented as well as the remote sensing data collected using thermal infrared, passive microwave, and active microwave systems.
Experiments are described performable in the variable gravity environment, and the related compatible/beneficial residual accelerations, both for pure and applied research in the fields of Fluid Mechanics (static and dynamic), Materials Sciences (Crystal Growth, Metal and Alloy Solidification, Glasses, etc.), and Life Sciences, so as to assess the relevance of a variable G-level laboratory.
