In sharp contrast to surface hydrides, reactivities of interstitial hydrides are difficult to explore. When treated with a metal ion (Cu + , Ag + , and Au + ), the stable CuI dihydride template [Cu 11 H 2 {S 2 P(OiPr) 2 } 6 (C≡CPh) 3 ] (H 2 Cu 11 ) generates surprisingly three very different compounds, namely [CuH 2 Cu 11 {S 2 P(OiPr) 2 } 6 (C≡CPh) 3 ] + (1), [AgH 2 Cu 14 {S 2 P(OiPr) 2 } 6 ((C≡CPh) 6 ] + (2), and [AuCu 11 {S 2 P(OiPr) 2 } 6 (C≡CPh) 3 Cl] (3). Compounds 1 and 2 are both MI species and maintain the same number of hydride ligands as their H 2 Cu 11 precursor. Neutron diffraction revealed the first time a trigonal-pyramidal hydride coordination mode in the AgCu 3 environment of 2. 3 has no hydride and exhibits a mixed-valent [AuCu 11 ] 10+ metal core, making it a two-electron superatom.
Abstract Objective In order to control NO x in low‐temperature flue gases emitted from non‐power industries and to reduce the preparation cost of denitration catalysts, this study uses inexpensive blast furnace slag as raw material to prepare denitration catalysts. Methods After cooling, drying and grinding, the blast furnace slag becomes a powder with considerable fineness and meets the requirements of activity index, which is called GGBS (ground granulated blast furnace slag). Using GGBS as denitration catalyst carrier, the active components M (M = Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Ce) are loaded on Mn‐based GGBS catalyst using an impregnation method. Conclusions The effect of different active components on the denitration performance and sulfur resistance of Mn‐based GGBS catalysts is investigated. The results show that the Mn‐Ce/GGBS catalyst has better denitration performance and sulfur resistance. The Mn‐Ce/GGBS catalyst has a significant denitration performance when load ratio is 2:1. The active component Ce improves the denitration performance of the catalyst, reduces sulfur poisoning and extends the life of the catalyst. The SO 2 in the flue gas increases the acid sites on the catalyst surface and improves catalyst activity. The larger the ratios of Mn 4+ /Mn 3+ , Ce 4+ /Ce 3+ and O α /O β , the stronger the catalyst activity and the better the denitration performance. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry (SCI).
We report warm rolling is used to identify whether reductions in dislocation content would provide a significant impact on conductivity in accumulatively roll-bonded Cu-Nb nanolaminates. In addition, the impact of temperature on mechanical properties and interfacial texture is also quantified. Although temperature has a strong effect on dislocation content and mechanical properties, it is shown that length scale and volume fraction are most critical to defining the conductivity of the nanolaminate. Rolling at temperature reduced the flow stress of the material while maintaining the interfacial and layer structure, indicating that warm rolling can increase the ability to process the nanolaminates without reducing conductivity.
Abstract Metals of 12Cr2Si and 9Cr1Mo are investigated with femtosecond fiber laser additive manufacturing. A smooth phase transition is found at the interface of the two gradated composition metals, indicating a strong bonding. In contrast, the comparison group of SS316L and SA508 shows an abrupt transition.
This study presents in-situ reduction of lanthanum strontium cobalt ferrite (LSCF) perovskite as an effective method for modifying its surface properties and enhancing its electrocatalytic reactivity for oxidative coupling of methane (OCM). The evolution of hetero-phases during the reduction of LSCF resulted in CoFe nanoparticles being formed at the surface. The in-situ reduced LSCF cell for OCM could be operated in either an ion pump or a fuel cell mode. High selectivity of 63% and 10.2% were reported for C 2+ hydrocarbons and C 3 H 6 , respectively. DFT calculations on LSCF and CoFe revealed that the high selectivity of C 2+ hydrocarbons on the LSCF primarily stems from the presence of CoFe nanoparticles. In-situ DRIFTS conducted under CH 4 proved that complete oxidation of CH 4 can be effectively inhibited by reducing LSCF, and control of oxygen supply is an important parameter for selective conversion of CH 4 to higher order hydrocarbon.
In this paper, we report on the synthesis, characterization, and use of ruthenium oxide (RuO 2 ) doped with a secondary metal (M2) to enhance electrochemical activity and stability for the electrocatalytic oxidation (ECO) of biomass-derived wastewaters. We used different electrochemical methods such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical surface area (ECSA), and Tafel analysis as well as physical characterization such as grazing incidence X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy to understand how the introduction of M2 affects electrochemical performance. Our results show that including an M2 improves the ECO performance regardless of the composition of the electrolyte. Specifically, we saw increase in ECSA, which could be due to enhanced charge transfer for the pH ranges evaluated. Furthermore, the introduction of organic compounds in wastewater generated during the hydrothermal liquefaction of food waste affected the ECO performance differently, depending on M2, the electrolyte composition, and anodic half-cell potential, highlighting the need to properly control the reaction conditions when testing and characterizing the electrocatalysts under different reaction regimes. We developed an in situ electrocatalytic benchmarking protocol, Boruah – Lopez-Ruiz – Strange (BLoRS), to quickly assess if the presence of M2 improves the ECO performance; thus, saving time and resources in ex situ characterization, testing, and product analysis. This foundational work provides the basis for characterization and benchmarking of electrodes of the ECO of organic compounds.

The utility of gray cast iron in engine components remains tied to the mechanical performance and cost. Repair and remanufacturing of castings offer economical and sustainable benefits; however, high thermal input from traditional fusion-based welding is unable to restore the original mechanical quality owing to brittle microstructures and porosity formed in situ. Directed energy deposition (DED) is an additive manufacturing method that has received considerable interest for repairs owing to the highly controllable nature of the process. Despite this, few works have connected the effect of DED parameters on actual interfacial strength. Consequently, distinct DED parameter combinations were identified to maximize the strength and fatigue life of the repaired cast iron. Further, high speed melt pool imaging and residual stress measurements are provided to aid in the understanding of the metallurgical quality and strength seen in these structures. In general, higher scanning speeds and lower thermal gradients promoted comparable tensile strength to that of the original gray cast iron. The results presented here provide a foundation to tune in the DED process to generate the required mechanical quality as a starting point for future process advancements.
