TV synchronization system features stability and noise immunity

Horizontal jitter in the video presentation in television systems is prevented by using an additional sync level. This circuitry uses simultaneous signals at both sync and porch frequencies, providing a sync identification from which a coincidence circuit can generate pulses having the required stability and noise immunity.

Means for improving apparent resolution of television

Technique using short term temporal integration characteristics of the observers visual system improves the apparent resolution of television video presentations. The raster is displaced slightly on each frame so the eye can integrate the information in each raster grain. This phase shift uses a switching time delay.

Sensory, Decision and Control Systems: April to July 1966

The quarter reported here for the NASA contract, and the longer period reported for the Air Force contract, saw the development of two system concepts for the transmission of video data from a remote location to Earth. In the simpler system, a stereoscopic outline together with other data such as reflectance and possibly the texture of objects will be transmitted to Earth. The objects considered are those larger than a predetermined size and within a predetermined range. From the stereoscopic outlines presented to the operator on Earth he will decide what objects he would like pictured in full TV frames and order these transmitted. In the more elaborate system, TV cameras will be carried on a vehicle and the direction in which the vehicle moves will be chosen by an onboard decision computer. Perceptual decisions may also be made to identify objects whose characteristics have been reported to Earth and whose value to the Earth observer has been communicated back to the perceptual computer. The assembly of cameras, perceptual computer, decision computer and vehicle is called a robot. Photosensors for this robot are television cameras, the first models of which have been tested under computer control. A model of both the perceptual computer and the decision computer has been simulated. It consists of 12 modules, each of which makes an initial guess as to what the response to incoming data should be. Each takes the data from all other modules and combines it in a nonlinear fashion with the data coming directly into it to arrive at a mixed guess as to what act should be performed. When 60% of the modules vote 0. 5 probability for one act, that act is performed. Convergence to a satisfactory decision took from 5 to 25 time steps. The model of the frog's retina previously reported is here extended to that part of the brain, called the tectum, where the frog begins to respond to objects detected by the retina.

Flow tube used to cool solar-pumped laser

A flow tube has been designed and constructed to provide two major functions in the application of a laser beam for transmission of both sound and video. It maintains the YAG laser at the proper operating temperature of 300 degrees K under solar pumping conditions, and it serves as a pump cavity for the laser crystal.

Circuit enhances vertical resolution in raster scanning systems

Circuit enhances vertical resolution in electron beam, raster scanning systems exhibiting aperture distortion in the vertical direction. A sensitized area /image/ produces a video output when the scan beam nears it, which causes vertical elongation in the reconstructed images of all sensitized areas on the surface.

Solid state high-voltage pulser operates with low supply voltage

High speed klystron cathode pulser requires low voltage to generate high-voltage pulses. Broadband video transformers are wound in two configurations - /1/ transmission line, multifilar toroids and /2/ loop coupling toroids. The circuit adapts to generate high-speed, high-voltage, high-stability power pulses at megawatt levels.

Technique for improving solid state mosaic images

Method identifies and corrects mosaic image faults in solid state visual displays and opto-electronic presentation systems. Composite video signals containing faults due to defective sensing elements are corrected by a memory unit that contains the stored fault pattern and supplies the appropriate fault word to the blanking circuit.

System converts slow-scan to standard fast-scan TV signals

Signal conversion system converts slow-scan video signals into standard fast-scan television signals that are required for reproduction of television pictures on American TV sets. This system permits conversion of TV pictures produced in accordance with the standards of one country into the standards of another country.

Radio frequency baseband recording technique

Technique uses a helical-scan video recorder with auxiliary signal-conditioning equipment to provide an inexpensive, high-capacity magnetic tape recording of a 112 channel, phase-locked, multiplexed, baseband signal.

Multispectral facsimile reproducer

Facsimile reproducer records spatially well-registered true-color and false-color video data on tape. Proposed optical arrangement allows light sources to be adjusted along the mirror scanning direction in such a manner that no electronic delays are required if the reproducer is operated synchronously with the camera.

Color television system using single gun color cathode ray tube

Two-primary color and single gun system provides quality differential color and variation in brightness for specific colors by varying current and controlling duty cycle of electron beam. Number of video amplifiers, deflection circuits, and guns required to display color TV picture is reduced and less complex tube is required.
