Development of piezoelectric skin friction force vector transducer for a hypersonic wind tunnel

A surface shear force transducer for use in impulse type hypersonic tunnels is described. Sensors are constructed of lead zirconate titanate composition piezoelectric ceramic materials. The diameter of the sensing diaphragm is 0.75 inches and overall transducer dimensions are 1.0 inch diameter and 0.625 inch height. Analysis of the tranducer is made to help design criteria and fabrication techniques. Discussions on design and fabrication techniques are presented as well as performance of transducers delivered.

Wind-tunnel investigation at low speeds of a model of the Kestrel (XV-6A) vectored-trust V/STOL airplane

Longitudinal and lateral stability data were obtained with the model out of and in ground effect over a moving ground plane for a range of model angles of attack and sideslip at various thrust coefficients. These data were taken primarily at thrust coefficients which simulate transition speeds on the airplane between hover and 200 knots. Some data, however, represent the effect of thrust deflection at speeds up to 350 knots. Also presented are the effects of control-surface deflections and interference between the jets and free stream.

The effects of estimation of censoring, truncation, transformation and partial data vectors

The purpose of this research was to attack statistical problems concerning the estimation of distributions for purposes of predicting and measuring assembly performance as it appears in biological and physical situations. Various statistical procedures were proposed to attack problems of this sort, that is, to produce the statistical distributions of the outcomes of biological and physical situations which, employ characteristics measured on constituent parts. The techniques are described.

Omni-axis secondary injection thrust vector control system

The concept, development, design study and preliminary analysis and layout of the required digital logic scheme to be used for injection valve control are presented. An application and optimization study of an Omni-Axis Secondary Injection Control System applicable to the proposed Space Shuttle Pressure Fed Engine is reported. Technical definition and analysis control procedures and test routines, as well as a supporting set of drawing sketches and reference manual, are enclosed.

Vector and tensor radiation from Schwarzschild relativistic circular geodesics.

A technique developed by Regge and Wheeler (1957) is applied in the Schwarzschild background geometry to treat the radiation emitted by a test particle moving at a speed close to the local speed of light in the vicinity of a black hole. An analytic expression is obtained for the gravitational and electromagnetic radiation spectrum of a particle traveling in a highly relativistic orbit around a Schwarzschild blac hole.

Thrust vector control for V/STOL aircraft

To deflect exhaust of V/STOL aircraft fan deploy set of rectangular flaps so exhaust stream can be turned as required and then directed through exit nozzles which generate thrust in appropriate direction; lateral deflection of exhaust is provided by yaw vanes.
