Some rules for polydimensional squeezing

The review of the following results is presented: For mixed state light of N-mode electromagnetic field described by Wigner function which has generic Gaussian form, the photon distribution function is obtained and expressed explicitly in terms of Hermite polynomials of 2N-variables. The momenta of this distribution are calculated and expressed as functions of matrix invariants of the dispersion matrix. The role of new uncertainty relation depending on photon state mixing parameter is elucidated. New sum rules for Hermite polynomials of several variables are found. The photon statistics of polymode even and odd coherent light and squeezed polymode Schroedinger cat light is given explicitly. Photon distribution for polymode squeezed number states expressed in terms of multivariable Hermite polynomials is discussed.

Time-dependent variational approach in terms of squeezed coherent states: Implication to semi-classical approximation

A general framework for time-dependent variational approach in terms of squeezed coherent states is constructed with the aim of describing quantal systems by means of classical mechanics including higher order quantal effects with the aid of canonicity conditions developed in the time-dependent Hartree-Fock theory. The Maslov phase occurring in a semi-classical quantization rule is investigated in this framework. In the limit of a semi-classical approximation in this approach, it is definitely shown that the Maslov phase has a geometric nature analogous to the Berry phase. It is also indicated that this squeezed coherent state approach is a possible way to go beyond the usual WKB approximation.

Quantum amplification and quantum optical tapping with squeezed states and correlated quantum states

Quantum fluctuations in a nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier (NOPA) are investigated experimentally with a squeezed state coupled into the internal idler mode of the NOPA. Reductions of the inherent quantum noise of the amplifier are observed with a minimum noise level 0.7 dB below the usual noise level of the amplifier with its idler mode in a vacuum state. With two correlated quantum fields as the amplifier's inputs and proper adjustment of the gain of the amplifier, it is shown that the amplifier's intrinsic quantum noise can be completely suppressed so that noise-free amplification is achieved. It is also shown that the NOPA, when coupled to either a squeezed state or a nonclassically correlated state, can realize quantum tapping of optical information.

Two Different Squeeze Transformations

Lorentz boosts are squeeze transformations. While these transformations are similar to those in squeezed states of light, they are fundamentally different from both physical and mathematical points of view. The difference is illustrated in terms of two coupled harmonic oscillators, and in terms of the covariant harmonic oscillator formalism.

The Total Gaussian Class of Quasiprobabilities and its Relation to Squeezed-State Excitations

The class of quasiprobabilities obtainable from the Wigner quasiprobability by convolutions with the general class of Gaussian functions is investigated. It can be described by a three-dimensional, in general, complex vector parameter with the property of additivity when composing convolutions. The diagonal representation of this class of quasiprobabilities is connected with a generalization of the displaced Fock states in direction of squeezing. The subclass with real vector parameter is considered more in detail. It is related to the most important kinds of boson operator ordering. The properties of a specific set of discrete excitations of squeezed coherent states are given.

Q (Alpha) Function and Squeezing Effect

The relation of squeezing and Q(alpha) function is discussed in this paper. By means of Q function, the squeezing of field with gaussian Q(alpha) function or negative P(a)function is also discussed in detail.

Observation of Two-Photon Excitation for Three-Level Atoms in a Squeezed Vacuum

The two-photon transition (6S(sub 1/2) yields 6D(sub 5/2)) of atomic Cesium is investigated for excitation with squeezed vacuum generated via nondegenerate parametric down conversion. The two-photon excitation rate (R) is observed to have a non-quadratic dependence of R = aI(exp 2) + bI on the incident photon flux (I), reflecting the nonclassical correlations of the squeezed vacuum field.

Optimal Signal Filtration in Optical Sensors with Natural Squeezing of Vacuum Noises

The structure of optimal receiver is discussed for optical sensor measuring a small displacement of probe mass. Due to nonlinear interaction of the field and the mirror, a reflected wave is in squeezed state (natural squeezing), two quadratures of which are correlated and therefore one can increase signal-to-noise ratio and overcome the SQL. A measurement procedure realizing such correlation processing of two quadratures is clarified. The required combination of quadratures can be produced via mixing of pump field reflected from the mirror with local oscillator phase modulated field in duel-detector homodyne scheme. Such measurement procedure could be useful not only for resonant bar gravitational detector but for laser longbase interferometric detectors as well.

Generation of Squeezed Light Using Photorefractive Degenerate Two-Wave Mixing

We present a quantum nonlinear model of two-wave mixing in a lossless photorefractive medium. A set of equations describing the quantum nonlinear coupling for the field operators is obtained. It is found that, to the second power term, the commutation relationship is maintained. The expectation values for the photon number concur with those of the classical electromagnetic theory when the initial intensities of the two beams are strong. We also calculate the quantum fluctuations of the two beams initially in the coherent state. With an appropriate choice of phase, quadrature squeezing or number state squeezing can be produced.

Steady-State Squeezing in the Micromaser Cavity Field

It is shown that the radiation field in the presently operated micromaser cavity may be squeezed when pumped with polarized atoms. The squeezing is in the steady state field corresponding to the action similar to that of the conventional micromaser, with the effect of cavity dissipation during entire t(sub c) = tau + t(sub cav).

Squeezed states as representations of symplectic groups

It is shown that the SU(1,1)-like and SU(2)-like two-photon coherent states can be combined to form a O(3,2)-like two-photon state. Since the O(3,2) group has many subgroups, there are also many new interesting new coherent and squeezed two-photon states. Among them is the two-photon sheared state whose symmetry property is like that for the two-dimensional Euclidean group. There are now two-phonon coherent states which may exhibit symmetries not yet observed for photons, including sheared states. Let us note that both SU(1,1) and S(3,2) are isomorphic to the symplectic groups Sp(2) and Sp(4) respectively, and that symplectic transformations consist of rotations and squeeze transformations.

An Unsteady Long Bearing Squeeze Film Damper Model: Statically Eccentric Operation - Part 2

This paper, the second of a two-part series, presents results of an unsteady rotordynamic analysis of a long-bearing squeeze film damper executing orbits about an off center position using a fluid circuit approach. A series of nodes and branches represent the geometry of the flow circuit. The mass and momentum conservation equations are solved to predict the pressure distribution in the squeeze film. The motion of the bearing is simulated by the variation of geometry within the flow path. This effort represents the first modeling approach which allows for an arbitrary orbit size about an arbitrary position.

Nonlinear Whirl Response of a High-Speed Seal Test Rotor With Marginal and Extended Squeeze-Film Dampers

Synchronous and nonsynchronous whirl response analysis of a double overhung, high-speed seal test rotor with ball bearings supported in 5.84- and 12.7-mm-long, un-centered squeeze-film oil dampers is presented. Test performance with the original damper of length 5.84 mm was marginal, with nonsynchronous whirling at the overhung seal test disk and high amplitude synchronous response above 32,000 rpm near the drive spline section occurring. A system critical speed analysis of the drive system and the high-speed seal test rotor indicated that the first two critical speeds are associated with the seal test rotor. Nonlinear synchronous unbalance and time transient whirl studies were conducted on the seal test rotor with the original and extended damper lengths. With the original damper design, the nonlinear synchronous response showed that unbalance could cause damper lockup at 33,000 rpm. Alford cross-coupling forces were also included at the overhung seal test disk for the whirl analysis. Sub-synchronous whirling at the seal test disk was observed in the nonlinear time transient analysis. With the extended damper length of 12.7 mm, the sub-synchronous motion was eliminated and the rotor unbalance response was acceptable to 45,000 rpm with moderate rotor unbalance. However, with high rotor unbalance, damper lockup could still occur at 33,000 rpm, even with the extended squeeze-film dampers. Therefore, the test rotor must be reasonably balanced in order for the un-centered dampers to be effective.

Stability Analysis of a High-Speed Seal Test Rotor With Marginal and Extended Squeeze-Film Dampers: Theoretical and Experimental Results

A case study of a high-speed seal test rotor shows how rotor dynamic analysis can be used to diagnose the source of high vibrations and evaluate a proposed remedy. Experimental results are compared with the synchronous and non-synchronous whirl response analysis of a double overhung, high-speed seal test rotor with ball bearings supported in 5.84- and 12.7-mm-long, un-centered squeeze-film oil dampers. Test performance with the original damper of length 5.84 mm was marginal. Non-synchronous whirling occurred at the overhung seal test disk and there was a high amplitude synchronous response near the drive spline above 32,000 rpm. Seal test rotor orbits and vibration levels with the extended squeeze film dampers showed smooth operation to 40,444 rpm.

Squeezing Noise in Microscopy with Quantum Light

Quantum-enhanced microscopes capable of probing classically inaccessible material properties have drawn increasing interest, but most proof-of-principle quantum microscopes have not surpassed classical limits. Here, we discuss the promise and obstacles associated with the use of quantum light with reduced noise (‘squeezed’ light) for quantum-enhanced atomic force microscopy, bioimaging, magneto-optical measurements, and Raman spectroscopy.

Frequency Injection Based HVDC Attack-Defense Control Via Squeeze-Excitation Double CNN

Due to the independent controllability and fast power regulation capability, the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) system could be a prospective technology to provide multiple ancillary services to the system besides conventional bulk power transmission. However, with the increase of False Data Injection Attacks (FDIAs) on PMU data, the HVDC system could have the wrong response once the collected data that the HVDC system relied on is attacked, thus threatening the system operating security. How to ensure the security of the PMU-based HVDC ancillary service control become an urgent issue. To mitigate the risk, this paper proposed an HVDC attack-defense control based on the FDIAs detection method. Firstly, the Squeeze-Excitation based Double Convolutional Neural Networks (SE-DCNN) is proposed to realize fast identification of the attacking frequency type based on the time and frequency domain signals. Furthermore, the duration time of FDIAs is detected by the local outlier factor. Then, utilizing the results from SE-DCNN, HVDC ancillary service control framework is reorganized and an HVDC attack defense control is proposed for suppressing the potential influence of various types of FDIAs on the HVDC system ancillary service. Different experiments results demonstrate that the proposed method has the ability to significantly mitigate the frequency deviation and oscillation under the FDIA.

Accelerating laser ray tracing in high fidelity physics simulations of laser melting using squeeze U-net

Laser melting is a core component of the ongoing industrial revolution, dubbed Industry 4.0, as lasers facilitate fast and precise melting and fusion in advanced manufacturing. There is a strong need to optimize the laser process using simulations. However, this has proven challenging as high fidelity simulations are needed for predictive modeling and this is currently prohibitively expensive even when run on hundreds of processors on high performance computers. The challenge is capturing complex physics of laser material interaction, fluid dynamics, thermal physics and material phase transformations at various length and time scales. To close this technological gap, we modified a squeeze U-net to accelerate the laser ray tracing component of such high fidelity models by ~4x–40x while preserving the core physics principle of conservation of energy with 97% accuracy. This approach enables the accurate modeling of global laser energy absorption as a function of local surface temperatures and complex surface topologies, which govern the reflection directions and energy losses of laser rays upon interacting with the material surface.
