Boron nitride housing cools transistors

Boron nitride ceramic heat sink cools transistors in r-f transmitter and receiver circuits. Heat dissipated by the transistor is conducted by the boron nitride housing to the metal chassis on which it is mounted.

Cold cathode ionization gage has rigid metal housing

Cold cathode ionization gage in a stainless steel housing accurately measures high pressures. The penning effect is used with a high voltage discharge in the presence of a magnetic field for an ion current proportional to the gas pressure in the gage.

Compact photomultiplier housing with controlled cooling.

Description of a compact photomultiplier housing which can provide controlled cooling to the photomultiplier tube down to -90 C. The cooling is accomplished by flowing liquid nitrogen cooled helium gas through a series of coils which envelop the photocathode portion of the tube. The temperature is controlled by controlling the flow of the gas with a fine adjustable needle valve. The temperature is measured near the photocathode of the photomultiplier by a calibrated thermistor.

Experimental forced vibration responses of test houses during the Edwards Air Force Base phase of the national sonic boom test program

Experimental vibration studies were conducted on two houses to determine some of the dynamic response characteristics, resulting from sonic boom. The primary objectives of the vibration tests were to identify the mode shapes associated with the various frequencies determined from the sonic boom response data, and to obtain some basic information about the vibration behavior of buildings in general. The results are presented of forced sinusoidal vibration studies of some components of the test structures. Included are acceleration response data on selected walls, wall surface modal patterns, and vibration induced noise measurements at various locations in the test structures.

Technology Utilization House Study Report

The objectives of Project TECH are: (1) to construct a single family detached dwelling for demonstrating the application of advanced technology and minimizing the requirement for energy and utility services, and (2) to help influence future development in home construction by defining the interaction of integrated energy and water management systems with building configuration and construction materials. Components and methods expected to be cost effective over a 20 year span were studied. Emphasis was placed on the utilization of natural heating and cooling characteristics. Orientation and location of windows, landscaping, natural ventilation, and characteristics of the local climate and microclimate were intended to be used to best advantage. Energy conserving homes are most efficient when design for specific sites, therefore project TECH should not be considered a prototype design suitable for all locations. However, it does provide ideas and analytical methods which can be applied to some degree in all housing.
