Liquid gallium rotary electric contract

Due to its low vapor pressure, gallium, when substituted for mercury in a liquid slip ring system, transmits substantial amounts of electrical current to rotating components in an ultrahigh vacuum. It features low electrical loss, little or no wear, and long maintenance-free life.

Przybyszewski, J. S.↗

Torsional tubular disconnect

Torque driven disconnect maintains connection on a gas supply line until desired parting occurs at a remote location. It consists of a helical plastic tube with a disconnect coupling fitted for an interference condition slip joint, and a rotationally constrained support connected to a gas source.

Curry, K. C.↗

Design for a Rapid Automatic Sync Acquisition System

System provides rapid command sync acquisition between widely separated transmitter-receivers. It is based on a rapid, automatic range-adjustment approach rather than the time-consuming cycle slipping or stepping techniques of conventional phase-locked loops.

Anderson, T. O.↗

Multichannel spectroscopy guide

System makes use of diverging duct walls for conducting the light from entrance slips to the conductors by means of multiple reflectors. This system simultaneously records, photoelectrically, the intensities of several closely spaceed narrow wavelengths in the ultraviolet and infrared areas of the spectrum.

Roth, D. E.↗

Measurement technique for the determination of antenna directivity

Measurement of great circle patterns requires rotation in azimuth with discrete rotation in elevation. This technique eliminates a set of slip-rings and rotary joints and permits the use of larger models since only continuous azimuth rotation is required.

Lipin, R.↗

Improved shielding termination adapter for electrical cable connectors

Termination adapter replaces braid ring and ensures permanent attachment and grounding of sheath wires. The inner ferrule of the termination is slipped inside the exposed ends of the sheath wires and the outer ferrule is placed over the wires and crimped in place to secure the wires for grounding.

Vanasse, M. A.↗

Replaceable filters and cones for flared-tubing connectors

Connector is modified by machining the cone from one end before the fitting is bored to accommodate a metallic-filament type of slip-in filter. Thus, when surface of the cone is damaged, only the cone needs replacement.

Grant, L. E.↗

Ultrasonic scanning system for in-place inspection of brazed-tube joints

System detects defects of .051 cm in diameter and larger. System incorporates scanning head assembly including boot enclosed transducer, slip ring assembly, drive mechanism, and servotransmitter. Ultrasonic flaw detector, prototype recorder, and special recorder complete system.
